That seems like it would be less a mod than a serious overhaul given that the current charge port door is mechanical.
Thinking more of an electric lever that would prevent the door from opening, and the switch would release/retract this lever. Similar to how Mercedes central locking operated on my '80s 300SD fuel door (although that system was vacuum...)

Anyone is Europe got this update yet or is it only in the US for now?

By the way, guess who’s notably absent from this thread…

Rumors of my absence have been greatly exaggerated! I may be quiet in this specific thread right now, but I promise I’m always lurking in the shadows and reading your comments.

Just a friendly reminder that I'm a one-man band over here. When I'm not actively replying, I'm usually behind the scenes taking your feedback, bugs, and wishlists directly to the product and engineering teams. I can't always respond to every single post, but please know that I see you, I'm tracking these conversations, and I'm constantly fighting the good fight to make sure this community is heard and taken care of.

Now, back to my spreadsheets...

Always watching,

Always watching,
Thanks Brian, I drive a 2021, that is a 5 year old American car and I took significant updates over the last week that made noticeable improvements. Pass on my kudos to Ford, I was not expecting to get more updates as it ages.

I am on other forums and follow EVs, aside from Tesla/Rivian, no other EV company has pushed so many features and updates and other communities (my Bolt for example) notice and are jealous of what Ford is doing. Keep it up! Chevy now launched a universal charging experience like Ford Public Charging, the Chevy app is virtually useless though, slow, barely works, it pales in comparison to the Ford charging experience.

Great to see this update, could have used it last week going to LA when the main EA charger I used on I-5 was out of commission, but the lower cost Rivian chargers next door were a welcome alternative. This Ford sw has been so much better than the Google made garbage in the Volvo C40, and the addition of preconditioning to CarPlay rocks.

The problem is that you first have to remember to first tap one little button to open Settings, and then hunt for the even tinier trunk button tucked away in the top right corner of the drive modes. That’s truly stupid design. There is no excusing this. None.
Thanks because I didn't even know you could find it there!

How does one know if the car is actually preconditioning? I've never seen a message or acknowledgment that it will do so once I pick a charging station on Google maps using Android Auto.

When a DC Fast Charger is selected, you'll know that because the distance to destination symbol on the instrument cluster becomes a charger instead of a finish line flag.

When you're within about 19 miles of that charger, it will automatically begin preconditioning in the background.

Count me as someone who was really wanting a quick way to get to the phone selector screen and couldn't care less about a button to open the liftgate. I don't have a power liftgate anyway and always open it from behind the car. Now a quick frunk open button would be nice...

Unfortunately a physical (quick) access button for the frunk is not possible. Only one for the liftgate is.

I don't mean a physical button. I'd be happy with an on screen button that isn't a menu deep.

It is only one click away to get to, but I understand that it would be nice if it was always displayed. The issue I have with having it on the Sync display is the car's accessory power needs to be on. Unlike every other Ford I have had (and my current '20 ICE Mustang) I can open the trunk/liftgate when the car is on, off, locked, unlocked, it just has to be in Park.

I'm a UX designer so I fully get changing isn't necessarily bad but isn't always good either. People develop habits and carefully creating a new way is tricky. I think Ford dropped the ball here on this. My biggest complaint is I can't open the frunk/trunk with the car off. Second is not having a dedicated button more accessible.

A smart solution would be giving user customizable controls on the top of the screen. There's definitely a solution here to make everyone happy. Ford hasn't done that and I think that's a fair statement.

I have had to open the liftgate for my wife before, or grocery dropoff. If the car is locked the button doesn't work. It's clunky to either go in the slow UI to get to that trunk button or press the unlock button and then yell that I unlocked it and they can open the trunk. There's a much better solution to this not-uncommon use case.
Hi,
I have a 21 and when I get near my car it unlock itself and then I just swing my foot 🦶 under the rear bumper and the lift gate open, easy 😝
