I have an iPhone. I'm on my 2nd one since owning the car, both would regularly background close FordPass, and I haven't been able to find any setting that keeps it from happening. I mostly carry a fob now, partly because I got sick of having to unlock my phone to check if FordPass was still running every time I wanted to unlock the car. Digging the fob out of my jeans pocket means I can't open the hatch while still sitting in the car after I've turned it off and a door was opened, which is my goal.

I'm glad the car works for your use case. But, just because you're happy with it, doesn't mean that everyone else is. I'm mostly driving without passengers during the week, and it's fine. But when I do have passengers, I only remember to open the hatch before turning off the car about half the time.
The end of the world, absolutely not., but it is frustrating when it does happen.

Yes, I should probably do the button mod, and I'd be happier, but I'd rather do about 100 other things in my spare time. It was a very strange choice for Ford to put a Max Defrost physical button there, that you will never ever need when the car is off when there is also a button on the screen to do that. And, the Max Defrost button on the screen doesn't require opening another screen first.
I've been using iPhones since they were first introduced and I really, honestly do not know what you mean by an ap "background closing." They do not do that. You have to close an ap. Yes, the phone will lock and you have to wake it up but this does nothing to aps.

And, just because you are unhappy with a rather obscure function that Ford has already given you multiple paths to accomplish does not mean anyone else cares. If you find it that difficult for your life then perhaps you need to find a different car that has the function you want. Or add a physical button yourself as has been done by at least one member in this forum (@HuntingPudel can show you how if you ask nicely.)

Agree to disagree. I click on the FordPass app, and it has to relaunch from the start with the Ford logo on a black screen, like after a reboot or a force close, Again, just because it doesn't affect you, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I definitely appear to be in the minority with this issue, but I am not alone.

Not doubting you, just don't understand what you are seeing since that's not how iPhones work. If you open an app and sit the phone down, the screen might lock but the app still runs in the background. When you unlock the phone, the app will be there. No re-launching required unless you closed it before you put the phone down. And even if you DO need to relaunch, it's one touch on the app icon. No biggie. So it may not be what you wish it was, but it's not a big deal and like I said if you really want a physical button to open the hatch there are instructions somewhere on this very forum to install one.

I have owned a Mach-E for 5 years now (a 2021, then a 2022). On this forum alone, nearly ever feature has 40% lovers, 40% haters, and 20% I didn't know it had that feature. No matter what the feature, or how it's implemented, 40% of the people hate it.

There's also an overwhelming number of experts in how easy it is for Ford to implement changes. I am shocked at that, I would have thought the NDAs would have prohibited them from expounding on the ease of implementing changes.

Just for fun, I'm going to use the same sentence above (40/40/20) on every forum I'm on. Let's try one on for size:

40% are D_______s.
40% are R_________s.
20% didn't know there were two parties.

Yup, works fine.

I remember my first few cars did have a trunk release somewhere near the drivers seat. One had it in the glove box, which seemed silly. I don’t think my last few cars that were newer model years had it up front. Or they did but I never used it because they DID have a button on the trunk or hatch to open it. At some point my habit changed from opening the trunk from the drivers seat to opening using the button at the trunk and now I couldn’t imagine a car without it.

2025 no update yet. I did just notice using Apple Maps station stops are now calculated but I don’t think I have the preconditioning for the battery until I get this update.

In the iPhone and the Android worlds most apps only run when when they have focus, they idle when another app is being used.

Some apps

Folks saw the glove box (or center console) position as a security feature. (I was totally a convertable guy until about 15 years ago), so being able to lock the interior storage was key to preventing casual theft. You could limit access to the trunk by locking the glove-box. (e.g. valets).
Back then, two keys were needed (one for doors and ignition, one for everything else; that evolved into an owner key (master) and valet key setup). In an SUV that has folding rear seats that security logic is fairly moot.

I value the driver's button, as I can hit the button, and the lift gate will (slowly) open by the time I get to the back... 😁

My 22 gt got the centra computer, tcu and sync updates over the past week. What’s new besides the battery preconditioning on Apple Maps and the phone list thing? I noticed a new pony splash screen (i preferred the old one tbh but this one is cool too). Anything else I’m missing?

Check if Tesla Superchargers can be used in Connected Navigation.

2022 owner here. Not in EA. Just got the
In that scenario, you’re still in the car and you can use the sync screen button when you see them approaching the car. in other scenarios, the folks wanting a physical button are saving themselves just under 5 seconds of time.

But what i really suspect is that this is like crispy bacon vs softer bacon 🥓, it’s a religious war that no one wins.
Prefer crispy bacon, but will eat softer bacon. I'm no idiot. It is bacon... Kinda like peaty scotch versus not-so peaty scotch. Not a fan of the peat since some of them are like licking the side of a burning building, but I'm not an idiot to turn down scotch.

How fast is this Sync update rolling out? Do you think I’ll get it before Christmas? Does Ford still use an intern to type VIN numbers into the OTA database, or has that process been automated now ?

Or should I try the dance with the virgins and the blue candles again? That seemed to work to invoke the spirits that finally brought the BlueCruise update.
I got this update today. 2022 owner, not in EA.
