I use the volume control frequently. I like a physical rotating knob for that. The execution is unique... this is the first car to integrate a knob in the screen.
I agree about having a volume knob but it could easily be placed in the center console by the gear selector... would even be more accessible. The knob on the screen is the reason the HVAC section is so large and poorly organized.

I like my knob...I find it quite useful...

I do wish the screen lag was better though, I try to use it to adjust seat temp, but by the time it responds it's adjusted too much or not enough. But I use volume all the time. I'm not a wheel controls kinda guy.

Exactly right.

Knob - good.
Putting it on the display - bad. Very bad.

We could even keep a physical volume knob without it impeding display features if they went horizontal oriented. It's just mind blowing that Ford keeps looking at their options and picking the ergonomically worst one. I say that owning both approaches, we have the MME and a current gen F-150 with the horizontal oriented 12" screen. The F-150 is superior in every way. Maps look better, I have physical climate controls, and the screen is still huge.

Please Ford, stop the madness.
I 2nd, 3rd, and 4th this motion. The arrangement in my F150 w/ the 12" is vastly superior to the MME / Lightning 15". You know what happens when, without looking, I change the climate knob? The climate instantly changes. When I want to adjust the climate in the MME, I push the climate button thing, wait several seconds, then the wheel can actually do something, I make some inputs and it laggingly begins to do something. That's horseshit.

I just love the guessing game of getting in the MME, seeing the seat / wheel heater is on, I push one, then the other, and then wait while it flips a coin to see if one or both will actually do something. My favorite is hitting seat heater once, wheel once, and go back to seat heater to reduce it again, and then the wheel heater turns back on and the seat heater resets to full. WHAT IN THE F*** @Ford Motor Company

How so? It’s only useful as a volume knob. The heated seat and temp control is useless as you can simply tap the buttons up/down.
One tap and then twist of the knob is MUCH easier when driving than trying to tap the laggy screen multiple times or manipulate a slider. It’s a big improvement. Also much easier to turn things off with a quick twist to the left.

But I’m agnostic whether the knob has to be on the screen. I could probably get used to the knob being relocated.

I agree wholeheartedly. The 12" screen with physical buttons in my 2021 F150 Lariat was far better than the 15" screen in both my Lightningand Mach-E. Better resolution too.

So, THIS would be a great feature in T he Mach-E - an actual Home Screen. Shows how much that huge knob limits what they can present on our screens.
IMG_0823.png
The knob is literally where the home button is and the buttons below the home button are pushed to the side because the temp on our cars is vertical. There is barely any gained space because of the volume knob not being present lol. The real missing thing is the tiles. Oh, no! This caused such a huge uproar when the tiles went from large to small only, but this fully removes it?!?!?

I don't mind the knob. With the new MME interface that has more uses for the knob, I've found that I still pretty much only use it for volume. With HVAC and seat heaters it's a little easier just to tap the buttons (turns out I rarely change temp by more than a couple degrees). I'm mostly just happy that the sliders are gone. I think the knob is still a nice and somewhat unique feature and who knows maybe they'll continue finding more uses for it.

The screenshots at the top of this thread don't really do much for me. It's a slightly different appearance, but I'm not totally sure why I should be excited about it? In fact, I might prefer what we have today. Yeah, the HVAC controls are a mess in the current interface, I'll give you that.

Two knobs on the center console could be confusing. I could see something turning the volume knob, thinking they were going from drive to reverse or something.

That’s likely why the fake explorer has a slider.

Reposting from other thread.

I highly doubt this is the new tech stack.
Have they called Dog Mode, Stationary Air Conditioning?

This doesn’t look like android, more like a slightly improved ford stack. But regardless I actually prefer the MME system over the google automotive system that’s in our Volvo, by a LOT.
Me too!

If anything, I'd assume it's a heavy re-skin and modification of Volkswagen's infotainment system.
