News today that Tesla is laying off 10% of their workers and also cuts the price of FSD to $99 a month. At some point Ford has to come to their senses and make BlueCruise (which is really good) more affordable. I let 1.3 free trial of my 23.5 GT expire because $800 a year is crazy for a level 2

Tesla follows a belief that every couple years you rank everyone and get rid of the bottom 10%.

They laid off 9% in 2018, 10% in 2022, and now 10% in 2024.

It's not worth it for that price. It's pretty cool to use, but it needs a lot of work. For freeways, I prefer my BlueCruise over it. It could be that I don't have it on the right settings, but it will do cool stuff like change lanes to go faster. However, when someone is coming up behind you, it's not always great about getting back over and out of the way. Sometimes, it does, but it's random. It has potential, though.

I also hope that $800/yr price tag is lowered at some point.

$800 a year is $67 a month. And doesn't have the issues the FSD does

There are like 10000 videos on YouTube of people testing the 12.3.4 version of FSD. My buddy is a Tesla fanboy and has it. He drove from Portland to Seattle and back using it and never had to intervene. We went driving over the weekend with it, it is very cool, some of the choices it makes are pretty creative, and based on his experience his mind changed from "Not worth it" to "I am getting it at any cost!" ?

And also isn’t usable on most roads and also is only “barely” better than lane keep + intelligence cruise.

$67 a month so I don’t have to touch the steering wheel as much on the interstate is a lot of money.

My wife’s Lincoln has the basic hands on lane keep and driving it on the highway vs Bluecruise offers a very similar experience.

Yeah, with BC you can go full hands free, but I only do that with no traffic around. And I can’t remember the last time I had no traffic around.

Hands on BC vs hands free the car seems to drive the same. I’m not paying $67/mo for an eye nanny instead of a hand nanny.

hmm I've done a few months of FSD on trial... It was ok. My use case is the interstate... that is where I want my car to drive for me. Not on back roads.

FSD will do backroads, but I am not interested in that at all.

BC on the highway would be be better IF I could ever get past 1.0 and do things like lane change. One can dream.

My early experience with FSD was quite bad so I rarely used it. Even autopilot wasn't great because I had occasional phantom braking episodes, I couldn't trust to use it when someone was driving behind me. I did give FSD version 12 a try, it does seem much better than I remember. But I still wouldn't trust my life with it.

I've yet to try BC, I certainly hope it's a good experience.

I'll admit I never tried blue cruise in three years of mach e ownership. So few of my miles are on major roads.

No released version of Blue Cruise will take an exit.

BC 1.2 and greater does assist in lane changes.

Blue Cruise 1.x is most similar to Tesla Autopilot.

I use ford's ADAS for about 98% of my mileage. Both of my primary vehicles have 1.4 software installed. One is assist 2.0 and the other active. 1.4 even in mapped areas is still far too twitchy. I had it give up in a baby curve with the vehicle going onto the shoulder in hands free mode. It gives up lane changing with any level of curve present. I find it amusing that even at 90mph in a mapped area it will still change lanes for you despite being in 'hands-on' mode at that point.

Lateral control in the 1.4 software is the worst I've ever seen it (not to mention it still doesn't see traffic lights or stop signs despite having GPS info of where intersections are). If the vehicle coasts to +2 mph above set speed it now aggressively brakes instead of smoothly regening down to speed. Not sure how in the hell this "feature" made it out the door. Do they test this stuff? If so they need real testers not afraid to tell them when suckage is high.

Tesla's adas on the other hand is orders of magnitude more advanced. Ford is using hand coded software to steer. Tesla has a decision making system that's been trained how to drive. These methods aren't on the same level. Ford is trying to polish a turd at this point whereas tesla's is evolving into something new w/ each release. Furthermore ford is hardware constrained whereas tesla runs custom silicon. Older hardware teslas can pay $1k and go get a new computer installed. Ford? Ha. we can't even switch between android auto and tire pressure without skipping audio.

As for pricing, they're both laughably overpriced and software as a service is a shitty business model for consumers. People don't like being nickel and dimed, especially for cruise control plus. Especially seeing open source models outperform ford's offering and it's free.
