Fair. It's also fair that the NTSB is still investigating, to your point. I just don't see it leading to a different outcome ?
Be careful in attributing more credence to NTSB reports than is due. While their investigators are top notch people with all varieties of focus and specialties, the final report is issued by the board, not the investigators.

The board members are presented with a variety of conclusions and probable causes for any accident. The board members then vote on “the” probable cause and that’s how the reports come out. There are very definitely politics and pressures involved. Board members are political appointees.

Probably continuously pings the mothership with data so they were able to figure out who it was based on time/location and that car abruptly falling off the system. Usually though I want to say most companies that gather that sort of personal stats from your electronic device claim the data is anonymized so as not to be personally identifiable.

I don't know what Tesla's policy is on accessing such information, but clearly, at least on some occasions, the company is able to look at a specific customer's data for their own purposes without a subpoena or some court order requiring them to dig into their servers and retrieve it.

It can't be. In general it's a lot easier to identify someone than people think, even when it's "anonymized" and the way Tesla does things it's clearly not anonymized.

I am curious about the Fire and the data. I doubt Tesla runs a continuous feed of everything the car does so it's probably stored on-board and loaded via wi-fi. Maybe they've got a black box in them, which I think is the case based on the link below.

In the UI you have to opt in to send the data to Tesla. I believe this is required for auto pilot.

I can tell you that Autopilot can't be enabled in a subdivision. It's disabled in that case.
You can tell me a lot of things, but can you explain why it is disabled in a subdivision?

It's funny because on certain accidents, Tesla has claimed to have no data as the car was damaged too much. Here the car burnt to crisp, yet Elon Musk already has the data analyzed.
Elon says AP can't be enabled without lines on the road. But Sergio Rodriguez proves him wrong! The car thinks it can go at 45 mph in a parking lot. AP doesn't see the curve either, very similar to the accident scenario.

Listen to him in the video. I especially request the Tesla apologists in this thread repeatedly making excuses to watch this video.

Autopilot wasn’t even on, so the Tesla bashing can be deflected to a general hatred of musk and a doubt of vision-based FSD.

Welcome to our newest Tesla apologist!:) So you just joined to post Elon's excuse?
I can't tell if your post is sarcastic or not.

Elon acquitting AP and Tesla is like me judging if I should get a speeding ticket. I do keep a log of my speed vs. the speed on the road you know.;)

Sure.

Basic Autopilot by design requires line markers to be enabled. It uses those markers like other auto steering systems to establish the lane to remain in. If the lane markers don't exist, you can't enable Autopilot as there is no established lane recognized by the car.

Subdivisions, by and large, have no line markers.

I understand that some have mentioned that the Woodlands is a huge area with some roads within it with lane markers.

But this is a picture of the actual path the car took. These cul-de-sac roads don't have lane markers.

Hope that helps.

... many of these posts just aren’t really thinking through the nuances or giving any credit to the autonomous functionality Tesla currently offers.
You’re right. Tesla semi-autonomy is much better at hitting trees, trucks, bridge abutments, etc.

I haven’t read the CR article, but were they reviewing Tesla’s Autopilot or the Full Self Driving? Those are very different things. The somewhat misnamed Autopilot is basically just Tesla’s version of CP360.
So are you saying Full Self Driving is appropriately named?

No. Definitely not. Never said that. This all started when a few people posted waaay back on Page 3 that CP360 is “in the same league as” and “in some ways more advanced than” Tesla’s $10,000 Full Self Driving.

My point all along has been that Tesla’s FSD provides much more “autonomous” functionality overall than Ford’s CP360, BlueCruise, or anything that Ford will probably ever provide for the MME. And I put “autonomous” in quotes because of course it isn’t really fully autonomous, just more autonomous than Ford’s offerings.

I have also taken great pains to explain that I am not speaking to the safety of these features, and that they can be quite dangerous if boneheads actually rely upon them to abandon control of the vehicle. But if the driver remains in a position to retake control of the vehicle - just as a driver must do with Ford’s offerings - then the Tesla functionality is in many ways much more advanced. It oughta be for TEN GRAND.

The arguments being suggested by some that Ford’s CP360 and BlueCruise are more autonomous than Tesla’s FSD simply because Ford will soon offer an eye sensor, or because some Tesla owners behave like morons, is foolish. I’m just asking people to be a bit more objective.

But I AGREE that Tesla shouldn’t be marketing this stuff as “full self driving.” That was never the issue I was discussing.
