The Pirelli P Zero Summer tires that came with my 2022 GTPE were wearing out after 18,000 miles. After looking at the recommendations for tires on this forum, I chose the Pirelli P Zero AS Plus 3 with noise cancelling in the same size as the originals. What a difference between tires! The new tires are significantly quieter with a noticeably smoother ride. I took my wife out for a ride and she also immediately noticed the big changes. I had no idea that tires could make that much difference in the ride!
The installation at Discount Tires was a bit dicey. I brought original pucks from Ford so that they could use them when lifting the car. They said that they didn't fit right, so they didn't use them. When I got home I looked at the tires more closely and noticed that 3 of them said "inside" while one said "outside". It was disappointing that the installer did not realize that these tires are asymmetric. Of course they remounted them as soon as I returned to the station.
I have not gone on any trips long enough to tell if the efficiency is different between these tires, but the improvement in ride quality is so great that efficiency becomes a minor issue.

Happy to hear your initial reaction to these tires. I’ve been recommending them as soon as they came out. They were and have been one of the smoothest and quietest tires I’ve ever tested all while being a high performance all season. You did get the ELECT version correct? If so, you shouldn’t notice any difference in your range and if anything it may be slightly higher than your Pirelli summers were after you drive them a thousand miles or so.

Yes, they are the ELECT version. Your recommendation was one of the ones that I took into account when I bought these! That's good to hear that they have the same or better range than the old tires.

Every configurator I've tried tells me the ELECT version of this tire is not available for the GTPE. I've tried Discount Tire, Tirerack, and Pirellis own website and all of them tell me that the ELECT version is not available for the GTPE. So I was just going to go with the AS Plus 3 version of the tire.

If you have more accurate info please let me know because I would love to get the ELECT version of this tire. I'm at 14K miles on my '23 GTPE and it is getting close to tire time.

It seems odd that the Pirelli site does not list 245 45 R20 as an available size. Do your tires have the ELECT marking on the sidewall?

1750808376069-42.webp

I am not running these tires. I don’t run that size.

However want to mention that Pirelli does not always mark the sidewall of their tires ELECT even when they are in that series, especially if they are made OEM for a manufacturer. Many of the Pirelli summer tires on the GTPE did not have ELECT on the sidewall.

Also Pirelli lists more tires on their website that you won’t find in tire stores but you can special order them. You really have to do a lot of research when it comes to tires.

Curious what average total miles everyone is getting out of the P Zeros that come on the GTPE? I have a 2023 GTPE and have close to 30k. The tires still have plenty of tread life left. I drive my MachE very aggressively.

Scott, you are the highest I have seen so far. I know Andy barely got 4,000 out of his while several others here have gotten over 25K.

I think some of the configurators are too literal sometimes. The standard summer tires that come with the car are Y speed rated. The AS+3 non-elects are as well. The Elect version is H speed rated. Maybe that's why they don't show up.

Also, I have yet to see any official test anywhere of the Elects compared to the non-Elects. I think Tire Rack did everyone a disservice by lumping both the Elects and Non-Elects together as far as test results and customer reviews. Unless the ONLY thing Pirelli did is add foam noise reduction, they could perform much differently than the non-Elect version. If they changed the formulation of the rubber to reduce rolling resistance, there will be losses in grip and dry/wet performance.

I have the non-Elects and look to get about 20-25,000mi out of mine before they fall below 5/32nds, which is when I replace my tires.

I cannot find my notes right now but the ELECT and non-ELECT are not the same tire with just acoustic foam added. In fact, Pirelli makes many ELECT tires that do not have the acoustic foam. From what I remember, their ELECT tires have a different construction compared to their non-ELECT to give up to 10% more range. Also, the tread compound is changed to give up to 20% improvement in wear compared to the non-ELECT tire. If I find my notes from Pirelli which are more specific, I will post them. Like you said, I would think the ELECT tire would have a loss of grip but then this is a high performance all season so should at least have a decent amount of grip.

When I went to the Tire Rack web site one of the options was "Shop EV Tires". When I followed that link and put in the information about my car (Mach-E GT), the next option I selected was "Factory Tire Size". When I clicked on "View Results" The Pirelli P Zero AS Plus 3 ELECT 103H was one of the top 3 recommendations, along with Hankook ION EVO AS SUV EV 103Y, and the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 Electric Vehicle tuned 103Y.
Because of comments on this forum I chose the Pirelli P Zero, and as I said they are great.

About those three tires that The Tire Rack recommended for your car and the options you selected, only TWO of those tires are EV specific. The Pirelli and Hankook. The Michelin is "EV tuned" which means absolutely nothing. So many tire manufacturers are adding this to their tire descriptions. Not like there is anything wrong in running non EV specific tires but just bringing that to your attention. Now, the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 EV is specifically made for EV's but it is not available in the size you were looking for. I just wanted to mention this because I get so many asking me about tires that say "EV tuned".

I know this thread kind of went its course but I had to log in this morning and give a special THANK YOU to @Progress . In your OP you mentioned that these tires have and inside and outside marking on the sidewall which I did not know before reading your first post.

Well today I took my vehicle to the tire shop I've been using for 20+ years to have them install the Pirelli P Zero AS Plus 3 Elects on my GTPE. Very competent shop that I've never had an issue with. They do all my personal vehicles and my equipment at work like tractor and skid steer tires.

Well today they messed up and installed all four incorrectly which was a huge hassle for them and for me. Luckily because of this thread and your post I caught it before I left the shop and they corrected it.

My suggestion to anyone thinking about installing these tires on their Mach-E is to mention to the shop before hand that they have an inside and outside designation on the sidewall. It will save them and you a lot of time.
