2. while watching youtube, if you get a text, instead of the notification just popping up on the screen, the screen switches back to the carplay screen to display the notification. you then have to navigate back to the youtube screen.
Carplay can be quite annoying the way it will pop up for all notifications, imessage, calendar, teams, etc so I turned it off. So much less distracting
Open the Settings app on your iPhone. Tap Notifications. Select Messages, WhatsApp, Telegram, or the desired app. Switch off Show in CarPlay

Ditching PAAK and reverting back the fob does eliminate some frustrations. Best to view PAAK as an added, but flawed, bonus.

Otherwise I only have a few gripes about the software…
  • Having to tap into Settings to open the trunk is dumb and frustrating for all my driveway and soccer drop-offs and pick-ups. Why isn’t this on the home page?!
  • Interface can be a bit laggy (which increases the frustration of point above).
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay fails to connect maybe 1 in 15-20 times. Easy to fix but a little annoying.
  • Would be nice if the IPC was customizable to add a bit more info.

Got a quick question about the phone as a key? So let’s say I’m sitting about 25 feet from the car. The keys with the fiber actually about 50 feet away and since my phone is enabled as a key, it’s sitting here next to me and I’m not touching it. I’m not moving it. I’ve even turned off FordPass. Just wondering why the welcome lights just come on a couple times and night what is communicating with the car? Is the Bluetooth like searching for a minute or something at that time? I mean, there’s no flies in the car or anything like that.

I think we underestimate just how sophisticated and how many lines of code are in play when one of these machines are in Ready Mode and rolling forward with an occupant.

Lot's of us appear to work in tech/software related fields, but surely the comments about lack of coding skill by the developers of a vehicle like this is a bit hyperbole?
I will complain about the center screen program all day long.
But the realtime systems is a different story. Although the requirements for releasing these type of systems is very stringent. Especially if life or financial loss is on the line.

I have a 2023 Ex Range AWD Premium. I almost always carry the FOB but do sometime leverage just PAAK. I only have one phone sync'd to the car. I have had the following issues CONSISTENTLY:

1) GPS loses sync with CarPlay/Apple Maps/Google Maps - This happens 90% of the time if I switch the car into drive before CarPlay is fully connected. If I wait until CarPlay is fully connected and my location marker shows in the Apple Maps widget, it only happens maybe10% of the time. So I have now gotten in the habit of getting into the car, starting it, putting on my seatbelt while that annoying chime sounds SIX TIMES, staring at the screen for 10+ seconds while I wait for the Apple Maps widget to show my location, and then switching it to drive and start moving. Lame.

2) Apple CarPlay no audio after connecting - This only happens when I am running errands with several short stops. Maybe 25% of the time when I return to the car and start it, Apple CarPlay connects and I get no audio. I have to disconnect CarPlay and reconnect it to get audio to start working again.

3) Screen freezing and rebooting - This happens maybe 25% of the time upon starting the car. Maybe less. Definitely happens once a week to me. I will get in, start the car, the animated Ford logo will hang and then the screen will reboot after a minute or so and the system will boot back up and CarPlay will then connect (sometimes without audio). My biggest issue here is that when it does this on a hot summer day (as it is now with 100+ degrees) I am stuck in a HOT car waiting for the system to reboot before the A/C kicks on. This is NOT COOL. Literally.

4) Guest Mode - If I start the climate controls remotely (from my Apple Watch app or iPhone app) when I get to the car and enter it, the system is in Guest mode. I have to go in and select my profile (which is the ONLY profile). I used to have the system pull up the guest profile randomly without activating the climate controls remotely but that appears to be fixed now. At least it hasn't happened in a while.

None of these issues lessen the usability or drivability of the vehicle as far as I am concerned except the GPS sync issue (because I am directionally challenged and rely heavily on maps even in town). But I will say after driving a Tesla for a week, their software is MUCH more refined. Their updates are also much more frequent and consistent. Ford has a long way to go to catch up to them in this space and with the technology becoming a central selling point of the car, this is becoming a greater importance to car buyers than ever before.

I stopped using PAAK since it seemed to make things worse when I got in the car with my wife and she had her fob, plus, once, I took it into the dealership for service and forgot the fob, so I had to go home to get it. A 40 mile round trip.

I then tried to use PAAK again and it wouldn't work at all, so I sad screw it.

I never used You Tube in the car. Never will, so cannot relate to any of that.

I’ve experienced the following problems on my 2023 GT that I think were caused by the latest update July 9th because I have never experienced them previously, is anyone else experiencing these?

I always drive in Unbridled mode and twice in the past 3 days I’ve started driving and could tell something was different and both times I found it had changed to Engaged mode.

I’m in the hot Nevada desert and have been running the a/c on Low and every time I get back in the car the air is barely blowing even though the setting is on Low so I have to raise the temp to 60 and then it blows full speed, I can then switch it back to Low.

CarPlay maps froze up in the middle of a route and didn’t give me the instructions I needed and ended up having to exit highway to pull over and reset my phone connection.

CarPlay frequently gives voice directions and then does not return to the radio station.

Gotta say PAAK has been pretty flawless for me with my wife's Mach-E. I'll get the occasional "no key detected" while sitting in the car but then you just move the phone a bit and it'll go away. I'm also a big fan of Securicode and the backup password that allows you the start the car. These two things take away any fear I might have had about relying solely on PAAK because there's a failsafe for "shit happens". If my Polestar 2 still had a way for me to backup start the car if PAAK failed I'd rely on it too but since it doesn't, I only use PAAK at home when I gotta grab something from my car.

There's no point in setting 60. Set it to 70-72 and enjoy the automatic climate control. Even in Nevada it works.
60 might make sense when you need to cool a very hot interior quickly. But even in this case max auto mode and 70 degrees is enough.

I rarely chime in on threads that have anything to do with software since I don’t really use it. At least I don’t think so to the extent others probably do. However thought I would give my view even though I am probably in the minority.

I drive this car like any other car I’ve owned. I’m interested in the suspension, tires, handling, comfort, quietness, audio system and utility. If something doesn’t work correctly with the software, either I don’t know about it or it doesn’t have anything to do with the above items so could care less.

The only real interaction I have with Sync is Apple CarPlay which has worked, for the most part, flawlessly for over 50K miles I have driven Mach-E’s. When it had a hiccup last year, it was no big deal as I’ve had the same hiccups in my ICE cars with CarPlay.

I have no user profile setup. I have no charging destinations set up. I don’t even have any idea how those two would benefit me. I’m the only one that drives the car so seats, mirrors, etc. never change. 99% of my charging is at home using excess solar power and my Emporia app controls that. I plug it in, the car charges. I’ve never set departure times (don’t know why I would do that) and I never look at or keep track of the vehicles efficiency. When the battery gets low, I charge it up. When I do happen to DCFC, I plug in to an EA or Tesla SuperCharger and I have both set up to start charging without touching my car or the phone. I am rarely on multi-lane highways and when I am, I never use BlueCruise.

When I got the car, I set up the vehicle settings to my liking including drive mode and have never changed them. Don’t see a need to. I do all my own updates with FDRS and have been very happy with the simplicity of the system.

While I have the FordPass app on my phone, I never use it. I have Siri Shortcuts set up to start, stop, unlock, lock, check tire pressure, battery level, range, location, etc, etc and don’t even need my phone for that. I use my watch and just ask Siri.

I’ve had quite a few members here at my home for one reason or another working on their Mach-E’s (mechanical mods) and all of them have asked me about certain software settings that I knew nothing about and they were surprised I knew so little about Sync. I drive this car and that’s all I care about.
My first mach e I set up paak but that's because early mach es only had one fob, I wanted the backup start code. On my 23, never bothered with paak at all. nor individual profiles, I just get in and drive it. Don't even use android auto. The less you bother with the bells and whistles the less issues you'll have.

I may have mentioned earlier on this thread, it probably is reasonable to expect upwards of five years of lots of MMEs on the road before software will be mature. (hoping 4 years)
