I think we underestimate just how sophisticated and how many lines of code are in play when one of these machines are in Ready Mode and rolling forward with an occupant.

Lot's of us appear to work in tech/software related fields, but surely the comments about lack of coding skill by the developers of a vehicle like this is a bit hyperbole?

I rarely chime in on threads that have anything to do with software since I don’t really use it. At least I don’t think so to the extent others probably do. However thought I would give my view even though I am probably in the minority.

I drive this car like any other car I’ve owned. I’m interested in the suspension, tires, handling, comfort, quietness, audio system and utility. If something doesn’t work correctly with the software, either I don’t know about it or it doesn’t have anything to do with the above items so could care less.

The only real interaction I have with Sync is Apple CarPlay which has worked, for the most part, flawlessly for over 50K miles I have driven Mach-E’s. When it had a hiccup last year, it was no big deal as I’ve had the same hiccups in my ICE cars with CarPlay.

I have no user profile setup. I have no charging destinations set up. I don’t even have any idea how those two would benefit me. I’m the only one that drives the car so seats, mirrors, etc. never change. 99% of my charging is at home using excess solar power and my Emporia app controls that. I plug it in, the car charges. I’ve never set departure times (don’t know why I would do that) and I never look at or keep track of the vehicles efficiency. When the battery gets low, I charge it up. When I do happen to DCFC, I plug in to an EA or Tesla SuperCharger and I have both set up to start charging without touching my car or the phone. I am rarely on multi-lane highways and when I am, I never use BlueCruise.

When I got the car, I set up the vehicle settings to my liking including drive mode and have never changed them. Don’t see a need to. I do all my own updates with FDRS and have been very happy with the simplicity of the system.

While I have the FordPass app on my phone, I never use it. I have Siri Shortcuts set up to start, stop, unlock, lock, check tire pressure, battery level, range, location, etc, etc and don’t even need my phone for that. I use my watch and just ask Siri.

I’ve had quite a few members here at my home for one reason or another working on their Mach-E’s (mechanical mods) and all of them have asked me about certain software settings that I knew nothing about and they were surprised I knew so little about Sync. I drive this car and that’s all I care about.
Well said! The people complaining about software are probably the same ones that stare at their phones all day and complain how slow they are. It is a car! Drive it and enjoy it. Who the hell cares about how the screen looks or if they can use their phone as a key? Just grab the damn key fob, put it in your pocket and drive! Maybe these people need to drive a car with a turn key and manual transmission and no radio for a week, so they can remember what it is like to actually drive. And you don't buy a car to retain value. If you are so fussy, then lease it and give it up after 3 years so you can have the latest model that senses your presence, talks to you in a voice that you like and drives for you.

Speaking of software, did there not used to be a control for the subwoofer??

Never was a control for the subwoofer itself. You can adjust the bass in the sound settings in Sync.

Absolutely agree about the software. One newest 2023 has been in the Service Department for over 2 months because they can’t load safety related updates. Not looking good as Ford is talking about a buy back. Our 2021 MME has a partial update that did not complete and it has not updated since October of last year. . .

Finally, I continue to be frustrated with the brake pads sticking to the rotors almost every time the car gets wet. Pads have been replaced 3 times. . . (Apologies for being off-topic.)

If Ford is talking buy back just get it over. I am also one of the lucky contestants that hasn't seen PowerUps since Oct. Do i really want 6.8? No, but it'd get me a power meter to distract myself with so I dont look at the car in the middle of the dash.
Ford's issue with this software is many teams and many turnovers. At this point I'm pretty sure they all sit around in meetings weekly trying to figure out how to burry the dumpster fire of software and every week they realize the hole just gets deeper.

As someone who has owned a few Toyotas, you lost all credibility when you pretended that the Toyota infotainment was better. Absolute bottom of the barrel UX with a barely operational touch screen
Toyota infotainment does suck. We had an NX that totally sucked. My Rav4EV with the Tesla powertrain had an infotainment that didn't suck. It was simple, looked good, and worked. I also could see the range as soon as I opened the door. Really nice on an 80 Mile car range car.

I am stuck on power up 5.1.1 and the software experience sucks! The dealers don’t have any proper idea about EVs and they are really bad.

I want to make a clarification regarding software in cars in general, as I made some comments regarding the Toyota experience. I am not saying that Toyota has it down. In fact, I hear their EV is horrible. They are also inconsistent from model to model, even though the steering wheels all seem about the same.

Our Lexus NX200T (really a toyota) had a horrible infotainment with a track pad. That part was so bad, we just couldn't use it. BUT, the phone always connected and worked every time. The screen was OK. The HVAC were hard controls, but too many small buttons.

My 2020 Camry is a plain Jane LE transportation appliance. The HMI is blahh, but again, it connects music to my personal and phone to my work phones perfectly every time. I have to do NOTHING. This is Bluetooth only, I still need to plug it in for car play. I rarely need carplay in that car. It is a company car anyway. Hvac is plain old fan and temp knobs with only a few hard buttons for vent control.

My 2013 Rav4EV had a very nice looking HMI, and three screens nicely integrated, not jsut a big flat screen stuck on the dash like an afterthought., but again, I rarely had to use it. Got in, phone connected, car worked. HVAC was all on buttons off the screen. Another nice thing, Open the door, Range lights up on the cluster. Charge immediately button popped up on the main screen. Fast, easy, hands off unless I had to push the charge button. ONE BUTTON PRESS.

In the Mach-e. I have to turn the car on and wait for the splash screen to see if I need to plug it in or not, and if I need to charge immediately, it is buried a few menus deep, so I need to dick around a bit. Pain in the ass. Too mutch futzing around is needed.

Even my Jurassic 2009 Adrenalin has a more reliable synch Bluetooth connect, It just cannot pronounce "iphone" so forever since, my phone has been called "chris eye phone" but I have put an aftermarket deck in that truck since I wanted a backup camera.

Now, Why then, 10 years later, the HMI's have gotten worse? Also, Bravo to Ford for moving the fan and temp to the center knob, but I still have to look at the screen to switch it, and sometimes have to hit that button a few times. This thing is just stuck on with a bumpy back to "touch" the screen. Add two more, please. Fan, Temp, Volume.

Regarding the comments about two phones and agreeing on the same music, blahh blahh, blahh, that was not the point. It should sync to the drivers phone, and should sync the next day if the other driver has not entered the car. It simply doesnt do this reliably. Also, even if I drove the car last, and got in the next day, it still shits the bed connecting to my phone. My wife has a process when this happens: stop car, turn off, open door, close door, turn car back on, select phone try a few times, then maybe it works. Upgrades are supposed to fix this.

The upgrades actually did fix the disconnect issue we had everytime we passed certain houses with cameras and/or motion sensors, Never figured out which it was, but after an update, that issue went away. Ford had no clue or commetns.

if your phone isn't working as a key, open the ford app and make sure it shows "Connected" when you click the "Controls" button

Sometimes it is an emotional release to vent. So, I get it.

However, I also think in certain scenarios one has to adapt a little. In my personal case and use of the software in my car, I tried PaaK when I first got the car. But, my goodness I had to many issues. Thus, not I do not use it, or even try! My Boss winds me up all the time, since he drives a Tesla and he always says, "Key, what key..." Ugh!

Unfortunately the software is not written directly by four they have to figure out a way to piece it all together and update it in the way that it doesn't cause everything that kind of practically fail which is bad the mountain of updates over the last few months has been very frustrating including the push of the new app I get it but at the same time there should've been some type of notification because they push the app over the o the procedure was to delete the old app and then install the new app unfortunately we need to do that you lose all your settings that you set up with your phone to your car and you have to reset everything up it's like dealing with the phone after something always breaks or something always happen it's sad because OK once a quarter but they've been doing weird updates often on for the last three months sometimes a couple in a week to try to get everybody caught up and it's frustrating I had to drive 100 miles to pick up my wife because she couldn't get in the car she forgot her key and the phone worked that they push the app and then the phone stopped working and she hadn't set up a passcode to get the car going so I had to drive out there and deal with it wasn't fun

That must be the world's longest sentence. I wasn't a boy scout but I did learn to be prepared.

More proof Ford Software "engineers" suck.

First, and we all already know this, Who in their right mind would move the speedo over to the right where some people (my wife) the way they sit, and how the wheel is set to be most comfortable, cannot see it so we can see a useless picture of the car in the middle.

Her solution is to put the car in KmH so the MPH moves slightly lower (albeit smaller) where she can actually see it. But here is the kicker, and if it can also be changed manually, I'm not wasting my time looking for it. The Range and the ODO are still in MILES.
