From my perspective, Toyota's software/UI is many years behind Ford's. I still recall owning a 2008 Prius and looking at a 2013 Prius Prime only to find the same garbage UI on the HVAC system.

In the end, what works for some does not work for all. If a person prefers to live in the "good old days' then, by all means, drive a Toyota. They certainly have shown that they have no sincere interest in moving their company forward and away from fossil fuels (no, the Mirai doesn't count since there's no way to drive one outside of the west coast, IMO).

We are so sick of the software on this stupid car. If it hadn't lost $40K in value since we bought it, I'd trade it in for another Lexus or Toyota. Really, this software is so inconsistent, and poorly laid out why bother with updates? it only changes things and breaks things. My 2013 Rav4 EV was much better. I am really starting to hate this car. It is definitely not compatible with two drivers. PAAK stopped working, then sort of started again. It sometimes takes several minutes of dicking with the screen to get it to even connect to the phone. It seems now we have to stop the car, shut it off, open the door, and then restart and it will connect. Who wrote this shit software, Microshaft? Is it running windblows? FFS. When this car got rear ended I prayed they would total it. No such luck. I'm stuck with this stupid car and to make it worse, Ford keeps sending me emails that they want to buy it for $20K and the dealer keeps sending me offers for a new 2024. FK you ford. I put $20K down on this thing and it is lost. what a waste of money. Otherwise, other than the creeky rear end, the car is fine. Just the software sucks ass.
I’ve set my FordPass location settings on my iPhone to always and it significantly improved the connection for PAAK. The processor speed could be better on the Mach e but that’s a chip issue that may relate to supplier access. My 2023 GTPE is a better software experience (and great driving experience)compared to my job 1 Mach e. As it has been said before, cars and computers depreciate as soon as they leave the lot. Only antiques appreciate and that tends to be related to emotions and supply.

Weird how different our experiences are. I also have a 2021 since Oct 2021. I have only ever used PAAK and CarPlay. There were a few rough patches early on, but but I have never need to use the fob. Worse case, it took a couple presses of the door button and/or restarting FordPass to get in, but that was mostly in the very early days. It's been rock solid for me for a very long time now.

I don't think it's the worse amongst modern EVs. There seems to be some lag when using Android Auto while switching apps like Spotify and main menu items. I prefer it over Hyundai and Polestar. Admittedly Tesla's still the one to beat in terms of stock UX and slickness. That thing has zero lag even with full satellite graphics on the map. Also videos are high-def. with the MME feeling a bit CRT-ish.

Yes, I almost always carry the fob. I say almost because sometimes I forget it by mistake but PAAK has always worked the few times I didn't have the fob. I did have to set up PAAK so I can use all of the FordPass functions in my Siri Shortcuts.
I thought that may be the case, but wasn’t sure.

The key works so well I am always baffled at this PAAK business. I plug my phone in to fast charge and avoid using the wireless phone heater, load up my directions and tunes in CP/AA and drive, it works flawlessly.

Does not everyone do this with the car? I would really feel sorry for them if they didn't.

Sometimes I forget the car has it's own software on it.

As a former loyal Toyota driver, the Toyota software is not better, at least not in the bZ4X. I could never get two phones fully connected to it, so only my phone had access to do thinks like remote start it. The app is minimalist in functioning. What few OTA updates Toyota does are even harder to decipher to know what changed. And then the EV capabilities... Toyota knows how to make a car, but it's like they just put minimal effort into the EV specific bits. Sure, my old Prius was great, but that's because it wasn't a computer on wheels. I don't think Toyota has mastered the increasing computerization of cars any better than Ford. That's one area where Tesla and Rivian have old car companies beat.

You couldn't pay me to drive ICE again, let alone a Toyota. The MME isn't perfect, but there are lots of simple things you can do to make it a LOT better.

If PAAK doesn't work, don't use it! Your car came with two key fobs. Link them to your profiles, and go drive your car!
My PAAK has never failed, have a GTPE and it’s great, fun fun fun

Feels bad for the OP that their experience is so much worse than mine. I would search the planet for a dealer who could repair a faulty Sync console. I would expect Ford would approve a warranty replacement so long as the techs open a case with Ford and follow their troubleshooting steps. If your stuck with a dealer who is not committed to servicing EVs it’s time to find another.

Nice rant!
But for ME personally, there's nothing about Sync4 or FordPass that can make me prefer a Toyota appliance over my GTPE.
Afterall, I do actually drive the vehicle too. ?
Thanks. It's after my wife bitched about it all morning

Man, if I knew could find a used 21 for 5k (40k off my 23), I would have just bought that.

Where are they at!?
I paid $60K for mine in 2021 and waited a year for it. When it did arrive, 2022's were on the same carrier. I should have walked away. Lucky you that you got yours for $45K.

Feel better now?
No, especially when I paid $20K more for what they are going for now, and I did not pay over list.

Show me on this doll where Ford hurt you...
How about I drive it up someones ass.

I think one of the problems is it doesn't like two drivers. If only one of us has our phone programmed, it seems OK. PAAK is crap when there are two.

Regarding Toyota interfaces, yeah they generally suck, hence my comment about the 2013 RAV4EV was better than the 2020 Camry. But the Camry will connect to both my personal phone and work phone and play music on my personal phone and connect calls to both with no interaction. Ford couldn't do that if they tried...The Rav4 was fantastic. Colorful, Intuitive, and only the bare minimum was on one of the three LCD screens. Climate controls were normal buttons. (Climate controls should be three knobs on every car). The charge setup was great. if you wanted to charge immediately instead of the scheduled time, you just shut the car off, and the button popped up on the screen "Charge immediately? " Also, the GOM lit up and showed the range when you opened the door. I have to start the ford to get that info...to charge immediately on the ford, I have to click-click-click-scroll-click-edit.

As for Loyalty, The Rav4 was a cheap used EV with a model S motor and small battery that I paid $13K for to drive in the HOV lane for three years, then sold it back to Carvana for ...$13K. The Camry is a company car so I didn't choose it. Our last Lexus NX was ho hum, but the IS250 and ES300 my wife had before were both great cars. I have a 2009 Sport Trac Adrenalin and had a 2001 Sport trac and they have been great. I prefer fords, but this car has been disappointing in so many ways. The only thing I really like about it is it does drive and ride nice.

Well I can tell you that Ford could've done a better job delivering the latest app they did not do it eloquently they did not inform people well unless you were somebody that was in the know or constantly watching YouTube videos you probably didn't even know version five was gonna come out knowing that all the settings are gonna change and having to reinstall everything and then reinstall everything on your car blah blah blah it was really a bad delivery of software that really isn't that much better it's faster yes but there's so many things that are hidden and with no help files it's almost impossible to understand the app itself off the offering. When you're delivering software you shouldn't have to call the manufacturer of the software to find out it works they should give you some basic instructions of what to look out for and what to do in case of a problem instead of having to call them and hope you get somebody that knows something on the phone which is difficult with

Again, I support any fella needing to rant and let off the steam. :)

But if I am enjoying how it drives and rides,........
Well that certainly outweighs a sled that has perfect software/app but ain't inspiring while it's transporting me.

If your wife runs to the passenger seat while you mosey to the car, it will pair with her device (PAAK or fob). Unless you two are the same height, it should be immediately obvious when you sit down. Then just press the number to get your seat settings back. You can change the profile on the screen, too, but I rarely bother, since we agree on music and driving settings.

Next time, ask that she hang back to carry the heavy things while you rush to the drivers seat. And if you have a specific concern, you can ask your dealer to address it, or at least make sure your module firmware is up to date.

In all fairness, the software does suck. This is what happens when a car company tries to write software - you get a good car using software with all kinds of bits and pieces that just don't fit together right.

The same thing happens (in reverse) when a software company tries to build a car. Look at Tesla's: Good software running on cars with lots of bits and pieces that just don't fit together right.

It does sometimes take a few extra button presses, but I think people blame the car when it is just as likely their phone.
I've never setup/used PAAK, and I routinely have to hit the door open button twice (or more) to get it to work. The button instead of a door handle is just a stupid gimmick that needs to go.
