We are so sick of the software on this stupid car. If it hadn't lost $40K in value since we bought it, I'd trade it in for another Lexus or Toyota. Really, this software is so inconsistent, and poorly laid out why bother with updates? it only changes things and breaks things. My 2013 Rav4 EV was much better. I am really starting to hate this car. It is definitely not compatible with two drivers. PAAK stopped working, then sort of started again. It sometimes takes several minutes of dicking with the screen to get it to even connect to the phone. It seems now we have to stop the car, shut it off, open the door, and then restart and it will connect. Who wrote this shit software, Microshaft? Is it running windblows? FFS. When this car got rear ended I prayed they would total it. No such luck. I'm stuck with this stupid car and to make it worse, Ford keeps sending me emails that they want to buy it for $20K and the dealer keeps sending me offers for a new 2024. FK you ford. I put $20K down on this thing and it is lost. what a waste of money. Otherwise, other than the creeky rear end, the car is fine. Just the software sucks ass.

You lost me when you said you would trade it for a Lexus or Toyota ?

All media outlets said those are one of the worst EVs in the market currently.
Software is even worse to Sync4A and the car specs are terrible too.
They obviously only have this car to comply with requirements of having an electric car. Not that they are completely invested in that…

Personally if you are that upset about it, just take the $20K and be done with it. How much did you buy the car for in 2021? 20K is better than nothing. When I sold my RAV4 2021 I got $24K and it was full loaded. Purchased for $50k. Car prices are down across the board. Sell the car back to them and have a good day!

PS I have a 2023 and minus 1 issue with a software update (that I was able to fix with the help of a really good guy here on the forum) Its been fine. I have 2 keys and 2 phones connected. The latest update fixed the small amount of connection issues I was having. I think the Job 1's were half baked and as a newbie here I see a lot of Job 1 complaintes.

That being said, I will say, you bought a first gen car. Never buy a first gen anything unless you are willing to take some bumps and bruises along the way. Thats just how it is these days with ANYTHING.

I don't get the rant. It's not like it's a computer where you interact with the software all day long. It's pretty much set it and forget it type of appliance. What are you doing in your car that you interact with the software regularly. The only software I interact with on any type of a regular basis is Android Auto. The rest of the software just resides in the background.

This is a vehicle. It gets you from point A to point B. It's not an Playstation that you interact with regularly. I just don't get it. Whew!

So your rant is about PAAK?

Why bother updates? Are you not keeping your car and phone updated? If you aren’t, the only person you can blame is yourself.

When I bought my 2023 extended range, Mach E in December 2022, I knew a few things.

1. The car was gonna be an amazing car to drive.
2. Even though this is the third year, I knew this car was still going to have software bugs. Ford is not known for great software. However, Ford supports Apple CarPlay, which was a core requirement for me. I knew that I was not going to use their software for infotainment. I also really liked Farley’s approach to supporting Apple CarPlay.
3. I knew I was taking a risk with regards to battery and EV technology changing.
4. I knew that the market was likely going to drop with regards to prices, but it taken me a long time to convince my wife to get this car and I was done waiting.

I was fine with this. I’m really surprised that someone with the 2021 model would not come with a similar attitude around software and the EV technology changing and also the price is getting cheaper. This is a pretty common trend with regards to new technology.

I hope you can learn to come to terms with the car you bought and enjoy it for what it is, a really fun car to drive with imperfect software.

I rarely chime in on threads that have anything to do with software since I don’t really use it. At least I don’t think so to the extent others probably do. However thought I would give my view even though I am probably in the minority.

I drive this car like any other car I’ve owned. I’m interested in the suspension, tires, handling, comfort, quietness, audio system and utility. If something doesn’t work correctly with the software, either I don’t know about it or it doesn’t have anything to do with the above items so could care less.

The only real interaction I have with Sync is Apple CarPlay which has worked, for the most part, flawlessly for over 50K miles I have driven Mach-E’s. When it had a hiccup last year, it was no big deal as I’ve had the same hiccups in my ICE cars with CarPlay.

I have no user profile setup. I have no charging destinations set up. I don’t even have any idea how those two would benefit me. I’m the only one that drives the car so seats, mirrors, etc. never change. 99% of my charging is at home using excess solar power and my Emporia app controls that. I plug it in, the car charges. I’ve never set departure times (don’t know why I would do that) and I never look at or keep track of the vehicles efficiency. When the battery gets low, I charge it up. When I do happen to DCFC, I plug in to an EA or Tesla SuperCharger and I have both set up to start charging without touching my car or the phone. I am rarely on multi-lane highways and when I am, I never use BlueCruise.

When I got the car, I set up the vehicle settings to my liking including drive mode and have never changed them. Don’t see a need to. I do all my own updates with FDRS and have been very happy with the simplicity of the system.

While I have the FordPass app on my phone, I never use it. I have Siri Shortcuts set up to start, stop, unlock, lock, check tire pressure, battery level, range, location, etc, etc and don’t even need my phone for that. I use my watch and just ask Siri.

I’ve had quite a few members here at my home for one reason or another working on their Mach-E’s (mechanical mods) and all of them have asked me about certain software settings that I knew nothing about and they were surprised I knew so little about Sync. I drive this car and that’s all I care about.
I was wondering if you use Apple Music? If so, is the volume level the same as the radio? Mine is about 3 to 4 notches below the radio, wired or wireless. I’m wondering if that’s normal.

I do use Apple Music but I have never turned on the radio once. I can check if the volume is different but I would expect it to be since other cars I have had, seemed every input was a bit different in volume.

Thanks very much. I just read maybe turning off sound check would help, so going to try that. I wouldn’t be as concerned if it wasn’t such a big difference.

Sorry, random question: have you had issues where the seat buttons (1, 2, 3) don't work unless the car is on? That's been new for me lately.
I don’t think I’ve ever tried that. I use easy entry, get in car, press the start button. The only time I touch the memory button is when it forgets to set my seat position automatically, or the old bug that would default to guest profile.

To update my original reply to you, I just checked the radio and had forgotten I don't received any channels where I live. I get absolutely no AM and only three FM stations that have too much static to listen to. I do not subscribe to SiriusXM. Sorry I cannot be of more help.

Really? You're email comes off as if you think I'm an idiot.

It's the constant automatic updates that are screwing things up., so yes, It gets updated regularly, unfortunately.

I also understand that technology gets cheaper with time, I have been in a high tech industry since 1989.

Cars generally increase in list price, not reduce. They usually offer incentives like rebates and such but leave the list prices alone. This protects buyers. Ford totally F*ked us on this here by slashing the list prices. Sure they de-contented them a wee bit too, and Ford is not new to that.

It is also my second EV, and about 30th car, so I've driven around the block a few times, so to speak. I've had shitty VW's, several GM's fords, etc. all the way to nice Lexus and Volvo's, and still have my Adrenalin, which, the dealers couldn't figure out software issues with that either. I had to fix it myself with a tuner and a laptop.

It seems you read my rant, but didn't comprehend any of it. I also took delivery of my car in December 2022, a year after I ordered it and it was a 2021, already a model year old. My only fault was not insisting on a 2022 and walking away if they didn't comply. I still had my other EV. It was a better car. It was a blast to drive and had more functionality. I should have either told them to pack sand, or resold the mach-e the next week for $10K more, But I hate scalpers and wouldn't do that.

Ford gave us an expensive product, riddled with software issues (because "software engineers" today cannot code their way out of a cardboard box), refuse to acknowledge reported issues, fail to educate dealers, dealers who cannot duplicate a problem that I can every time, and keep the car all day and do nothing. But they overpriced them to begin with, and then adjusted prices when they couldn't sell them.

It is a fun car to drive. It is also a frustrating car to drive and you never know what you will find when you turn it on. The software sucks, and the idiots who wrote it should be fired. I could create a much better HMI for this thing, I am an Automation Engineer.

It SHOULD be set it and forget it, but it's not. It won't connect with our phones frequently and refuses to connect without several attempts. The phones are iphone 13's too and they connect just fine in our other cars. I don't want to dick with the thing for the first 5 minutes in total silence to get the thing to play my itunes or pandora, but I have to. At least it turns on and runs with regularity. It does not associate the key fob with the users phone and seat settings, sometimes. It is inconsistent. Annoying.

Coming from driving Subaru's for the past 10 years, Ford's software is generations ahead of Subaru/Toyota. The bugs in the MME software are pretty annoying but the overall feature set is much richer. Good job Ford. You suck sometimes but you're awesome most of the time.
