I've never setup/used PAAK, and I routinely have to hit the door open button twice (or more) to get it to work. The button instead of a door handle is just a stupid gimmick that needs to go.
When we use the FOB I have never had an issue, but agree the buttons are dumb. I would be curious what the experience of PaaK is like with the Lightning on that front. My F-150 PowerBoost doens't have PaaK, but with the FOB it has never given me even the hint of trouble.

We are so sick of the software on this stupid car. If it hadn't lost $40K in value since we bought it, I'd trade it in for another Lexus or Toyota. Really, this software is so inconsistent, and poorly laid out why bother with updates? it only changes things and breaks things. My 2013 Rav4 EV was much better. I am really starting to hate this car. It is definitely not compatible with two drivers. PAAK stopped working, then sort of started again. It sometimes takes several minutes of dicking with the screen to get it to even connect to the phone. It seems now we have to stop the car, shut it off, open the door, and then restart and it will connect. Who wrote this shit software, Microshaft? Is it running windblows? FFS. When this car got rear ended I prayed they would total it. No such luck. I'm stuck with this stupid car and to make it worse, Ford keeps sending me emails that they want to buy it for $20K and the dealer keeps sending me offers for a new 2024. FK you ford. I put $20K down on this thing and it is lost. what a waste of money. Otherwise, other than the creeky rear end, the car is fine. Just the software sucks ass.
Long in rhetoric, short on information. If the car bothers you that much, sell it and move on. Life’s too short.
Bye.

I rarely chime in on threads that have anything to do with software since I don’t really use it. At least I don’t think so to the extent others probably do. However thought I would give my view even though I am probably in the minority.

I drive this car like any other car I’ve owned. I’m interested in the suspension, tires, handling, comfort, quietness, audio system and utility. If something doesn’t work correctly with the software, either I don’t know about it or it doesn’t have anything to do with the above items so could care less.

The only real interaction I have with Sync is Apple CarPlay which has worked, for the most part, flawlessly for over 50K miles I have driven Mach-E’s. When it had a hiccup last year, it was no big deal as I’ve had the same hiccups in my ICE cars with CarPlay.

I have no user profile setup. I have no charging destinations set up. I don’t even have any idea how those two would benefit me. I’m the only one that drives the car so seats, mirrors, etc. never change. 99% of my charging is at home using excess solar power and my Emporia app controls that. I plug it in, the car charges. I’ve never set departure times (don’t know why I would do that) and I never look at or keep track of the vehicles efficiency. When the battery gets low, I charge it up. When I do happen to DCFC, I plug in to an EA or Tesla SuperCharger and I have both set up to start charging without touching my car or the phone. I am rarely on multi-lane highways and when I am, I never use BlueCruise.

When I got the car, I set up the vehicle settings to my liking including drive mode and have never changed them. Don’t see a need to. I do all my own updates with FDRS and have been very happy with the simplicity of the system.

While I have the FordPass app on my phone, I never use it. I have Siri Shortcuts set up to start, stop, unlock, lock, check tire pressure, battery level, range, location, etc, etc and don’t even need my phone for that. I use my watch and just ask Siri.

I’ve had quite a few members here at my home for one reason or another working on their Mach-E’s (mechanical mods) and all of them have asked me about certain software settings that I knew nothing about and they were surprised I knew so little about Sync. I drive this car and that’s all I care about.
I’m pretty much the same, except I have no use for Siri or Apple Car Play either. But I do have an iPhone, and the car gets me where I need to go in quiet comfort without buying any fuel.

Wasn't this obvious from the start? You know, over the air updates was suppose to have everyone have the latest and greatest software.

The reason why this "feature" happened is because the makers could push out incomplete software at product launch. Essentially saving cost.

As someone who has owned a few Toyotas, you lost all credibility when you pretended that the Toyota infotainment was better. Absolute bottom of the barrel UX with a barely operational touch screen

My last car was a Mitsubishi Evolution X and the timing chain on that piece of crap would always jump a tooth on the sprocket and then brick itself, but the software was nice.

You sure it's just not user error?

Works well for me. It used to go into guest mode a lot before they fixed that a while back. And when it did that I would just press the seat memory button assigned to my profile and done.

Ive really only had minor issues with mine since Ive taken ownership. Really no more than I have had with any other vehicle. Granted I dont use PAAK because sometimes I like to leave my phone in the car. I honestly think the MME is way underrated. This has been one of the best commuter vehicles Ive owned. My only gripe is the value on mine, as with everybody's, has tanked. I was seriously looking at trading in my 22 GT for a 24 Rally until I found out what the trade in value is.

I use PaaK all the time. Initially the reliability was horrible … long delays to connect. Occasionally it would refuse to connect (not talking about Sync … just not able to recognize PaaK to let me in the car) and I’d either have to enter the door-code or reboot the phone (sometimes shutting Bluetooth off and back on would fix it). This told me it was partly the phones fault (Apple).

Over the years it has improved quite a bit. It’s much faster to let me unlock the car and inside the car It connects the phone and activates Car Play much faster.

Still… it’s not 100%. But it has never stranded me where it refuses to work at all.

Also note that if you go into your “Profile” on the car (tap your portrait or icon in the upper-right corner of the screen) and edit it, you can link a specific phone to YOUR profile. This is how the car determines who unlocked the car and sets it to the right driver.

According to Ford documentation, there are numerous location with Bluetooth radios in the car that are used to determine which person (really which phone) entered through the driver door — this is so that if more than one person with a linked PaaK phone enters the car (e.g. you and your spouse) it can hopefully work out which person is driving. It mostly seems to get that right but … not 100%.

I like the convenience of not having to bring a physical key-fob. I use PaaK 100%. I know it’s glitches and I’m pretty good at remedying them — something I need to do a lot less often these days. I’m sure it will continue to improve.

We have had our '22 GTPE for about a year and a half. We love it. It is one of the best cars we have ever owned. We don't use PAAK. We never use the car's NAV system. We always charge at home. We have never had any issues. We love how the car drives and rides. We paid a pretty penny---you can get a new model exactly like ours for over $10k less, and yes, the value of ours has taken a huge hit, but we really don't care, as we plan on driving it for at least 10 year--maybe more.

In all fairness, the software does suck. This is what happens when a car company tries to write software - you get a good car using software with all kinds of bits and pieces that just don't fit together right.

The same thing happens (in reverse) when a software company tries to build a car. Look at Tesla's: Good software running on cars with lots of bits and pieces that just don't fit together right.
Don't be too quick to attribute software issues to an automobile company versus a software company. I worked 16 years at an extremely large insurance company whose IT shop was larger than most large software companies and whose software was top notch. Also, I've seen enough problems with software written by software companies to know theirs is not always better. That said, Ford's software can be engineered better. But Ford is not an isolated example.

Sorry, random question: have you had issues where the seat buttons (1, 2, 3) don't work unless the car is on? That's been new for me lately.

As for the original rant, it seems like you showed up here wanting to complain vs look for solutions to the problems, which is exactly why most people have passed you off. Had you taken a moment to search the forums you might have been able to resolve some of your issues. Or post specifics about your issues, there are lots of very bright people on here who are willing to help if you ask.

Most of your examples are network/connectivity rather than software. Investigate your network connections, distance MME is from your main router, whether cell phones running PAAK are in back pockets, purses, etc. I've experienced similar connectivity issues due to such factors.

That said, Ford's user interface is not designed as well as it could be. As a retired computer systems professional I've wondered whether their functional requirements include the human factors analysis, i.e. psychological logic most humans use to solve problems and navigate logically related topics. Much to improve here. Also, I see a lot of wasted screen space that could be used to place labels, buttons, etc. that would help users.

I do know that Ford has tested with users and revised software based on this feedback. I'm sure the software will continue to improve.
