Inexperienced driver T-boned the MachE tonight. Wife driving seems fine, just some bruises from the door and side airbags. Got her a CT scan after a few hours wait. All four doors' airbags deployed but front ones did not. Other driver at fault.

I am assuming this will be totaled. Any ideas for minimizing our loss during the settlement on this 2023 with 41K miles?

Also I can't get the frunk open - any hints for getting it open? No obvious bent parts on the front...

Thanks

Looks knackered to me.

Won’t connecting the wires behind the tow eye release the hood/frunk/bonnet?

No surprise that the front airbags didn’t deploy, they’re not designed to do so in such collisions.

I’d buy a new one straight away and wait for settlement.

This was our 23 mme about a month ago. We were traveling 67 mph on the highway when a maniac slammed into the rear of our car. He had to be doing 90-100 mph. Wife wound up with a broken arm and now has a steel plate in her arm until it's healed. She also had a broken clavicle and fractured sternum. We now have a 2026 mme.

I was able to double pull the handle to get my frunk open although the front of the car was the only spot that was not damaged. The other 3 sides were tore up from spinning around while sliding on the guardrail. I couldn't get the trunk gate open and with cracked ribs, I didn't try too hard. I was surprised that the following day, I was still able to open the driver's door at the tow yard.

@DrewfromMACH-E glad everyone is okay! This is the worse type of accident someone can get into and very sorry that you lost the car. The only thing I’d say is to negotiate the shit out of the insurance settlement. Gather comps from carmax, carvana, auto trader, kbb. And let some bot create a detailed demand letter for you to send AFTER you get their first settlement offer. Also file with your insurance. You don’t want to deal with some loser’s insurance.

In Jan, I got hit by a moron who thought that stopping at a protected railroad crossing is OPTIONAL. He had a cut rate policy. I’m still trying to recover my deductible ($500) and my diminished value (some $3,000). I’m likely to sue because they are not even making an offer. Fucking morons.

I have minimal experience with insurance claims and hopefully I can keep it that way....

The only experience I can offer you @DrewfromMACH-E is to try and just deal with your insurance carrier and let them use their big guns to recover from the other driver.

Best wishes to your wife for continued recovery. Usually the second and third day after a collision is when you feel like you got trampled by a horse. Hopefully that is minimal for her.

See a physician with experience in assessing injuries after a major accident. I've had friends whose disabilities did not show up for years, and it definitely was caused by the accident.

sucks that this happened, but looking at the damage and having seen plenty of accidents similar to this, it looks like it did its job protecting you amazingly well. If it damaged the frame (which it likely did), it's probably a total. I've had vehicles totaled with damage that looked far less severe.

After 4+ years of ownership I lost ā€œEl Gran SeƱorā€ (the Space White MME GT). Wthin two weeks I replaced it with another ā€œGran SeƱorā€ (the dark gray MME GT PE). Getting another one quickly mitigated the pain of the loss for me.

^^^ this.

The other party's insurance will try to get out the least amount of money, but stick to your guns and don't settle for anything less than a full replacement. You might have to get an attorney to pull more money out of them if worse comes to worse.

As @ChehRob mentioned - keep open the medical portion open even after you settle for the replacement costs. I know - my last accident rear ender has lasting physical damages that show up much later.
