For this first time since purchasing my GT, I took it on the Express Lane.

In doing so, the car offered me the option to try Blue Cruise. Talk about feeling nervous, while it was on.

My question is, how does one turn off Blue Cruise? Honestly, I couldn’t seem to turn it off and get back to the default screen on the dash…

Touch the brake pedal. Or push the cruise button on the left side of the steering wheel. Those will turn off cruise.

Or turn off the lane keeping by pressing the button on the left side of the steering wheel. This will keep ACC on but not lane centering/BC.

Go into the driver assistance settings to permanently turn off BC hands free.

Do the dishes.

That’s what my wife says anyways. 😂

To really make BC work you have to have cruise control on (button on left of steering wheel) and lane keep assist on (button next to that) and be on a BC highway and hands free will show up on your dash.

If not a BC, it’ll be hands on lane keep assist and intelligent cruise.

You don’t HAVE to take your hands off the wheel. The vehicle will still respond to steering input. You are seriously overthinking BC. It is an aid and convenience nothing more.

This is my preferred method for engaging and disengaging Blue Cruise. "Need to fold down the wrapper on my burger" BC on. Ready for my next bite; BC off. Or something like that.

I was being an asshole. I was waiting to say “turn it off the same way you turned it on.” 😂

A message popped up and I clicked Okay.

But, to be clear, I believe I was able to turn it off. However, the default dash screen wasn’t showing up. Even after turning off the lane departure feature, the screen for what appeared to be Blue Cruise remained. Hence, my initial post…

Hmm, I’ve never been a fan of eating in my car. Then again, eating in any car…

The confusing part is that when WE talk about “Bluecruise,” we mean “hands free.”

Ford uses BC to talk about all the features like regular lane keeping.

So we we sat “BC”, and it’s on, it’ll be a whole blue screen and say “hands free” on the dash.

Rare occasion, I assure you. But on a trip home last summer, it came in handy. Mostly it is me needing to let go of the wheel long enough to swap between eyeglasses and prescription sunglasses.

Make sure you're clear on terminology. "BlueCruise" includes both hands-free and hands-on driving (it didn't back in 2021, but Ford expanded the terminology. On any road with lines on both sides of you, you can use hands-on assisted driving, i.e. the vehicle will stay between the lines and follow them - with your hands on the wheel. So, you can be doing 40mph, and come up to a curve in road, and loosely hold the wheel, and the car will take the curve.

Hands-free mode will work on a divided highway. Not a highway with intersections, a highway with exits. The car will tell you that you can take your hands off the wheel.

If you don't like hands-free mode (I strongly recommend you try it for a while, it's great!), you can go into the settings and turn it off. Then, you'll only have hands-on BlueCruise. I've done hands-free driving over thousands of miles - it's much more relaxing.

You can see BlueCruise roads here - https://www.ford.com/technology/bluecruise/

2023 Mach-Es have BlueCruise 1.2. 1.3 will roll out shortly. You can better lane adjustment, and taking curves better without hands on the wheel being required.

@circatee Are you referring to the "default screen" as when the speedometer is in the middle and you don't see a diagram of a little car?

If so, you need to turn off lane keep assist (also a button on the steering wheel)

if you have lane keep + cruise control on you get blue cruise. If lane keep is not on, it's just regular adaptive cruise

Thanks to all for the responses, not just on this thread, but in general.
Using and now owning an EV, is almost like learning to drive all over again. There is so much to learn, especially on terminology and the various digital options in EV cars.

Again, THANKS!
