Has anyone in the UK had their HVBJB replaced proactively following receipt of the recall letter? I don’t mean after a failure, rather that Ford has written again to them asking them to take their car in for the replacement. Or, are the parts still not available?

It’s my understanding that they haven’t started the proactive replacements just yet.

It seems to be panning out in a similar way to the windscreen replacement recall. That had quite a long period between the letters and anything actually happening.

First post. Probably like a few others I found this forum after having an stop safely now warning. Only for me it was less than 48 hours into ownership. I got a MY21 AWD ER delivered last Monday afternoon, by Wednesday morning it wouldn't turn on. I spoke to Ford assist who arranged for the AA to come out and then for it to go on the back of a truck to Lookers Ford in Gateshead.

They have diagnosed it as the BECM though I am not convinced since it still has the HVJB recall pending. Ford customer service have been great, they've arranged a hire car for us to use, though it is a base spec Qashqui so a bit of a downgrade, but it is getting us around. The new BECM is arriving tomorrow, so hopefully that will be changed and it is the issue so we get the car back before the weekend. We are heading to Disney Paris on Saturday and I'd really prefer to take the MME rather than the Nissan, but I am concerned the BECM is a sticking plaster and the HVJB will die when I am over there.

I am also wondering if the BECM and HVJB are classes as part of the 8 year/100,000 mile battery warranty since they are in the battery box, or if they are part of the standard 3 year warranty, since mine is 3 years old in July. If it's the latter I will be looking at extended warranty.

Both should be covered under the HVB warranty for 8 years/100,000 miles. I’ve got the same model as you, also MY21, with 32,000 miles and not had any issues with the HVB components (yet). Hope your issue is resolved quickly. Update us on the resolution and welcome to the forum and an amazing vehicle (new adopter teething issues aside).

Thanks, I'm reading through older posts on the forum and that seems to confirm that to, so that is helpful. Mine is only on 12,000 miles. It seems the HVJB welds itself when under stress, people talking about driving fast up hills. I hadn't got the 7kw home charger installed by the time mine wouldn't start. It was getting later the same day, so I had used the 3 pin charger overnight, so definitely a very low stress level on it. So that make's me think they must be right about it being the BECM. I suppose I'll find out in the next couple of days.

I’ve had a call from Ford customer services, the BECM is now on back order and they won’t get it fit at least a week. I go to Paris on Saturday for a week so that will be in the Qashqui.

I’m not sure how I feel to be honest. I’m half tempted to tell the dealer I bought it from that I want a refund.

Tell Ford you want a higher spec car, I've had 2 HVJB and they tried to give me a Nissan Juke, I called them and said I wasn't happy, ended up with an Audi A5 and refunded fuel costs and a goodwill payment... give it a go

I had a bit of moan about it to the Ford customer services when they rang me to check I had picked it up. They said I would have to ring the Ford hire team and they would sort it out. I didn't want to be that customer so I figured it was a car, it would get me to where I needed to be and to just get on with it. Well when the dealer rang me to say there was a delay on the BECM coming in and that it wouldn't be here until next week at the earliest, she offered to get us put in a better car.

So I picked up a 73 plate Volvo XC40 yesterday. We've literally come round in a circle because I sold my XC90 about 2 weeks ago. One of the reasons we didn't go for an electric Volvo was that unless it was a EX90, which isn't out and we couldn't afford anyway, it would feel like a downgrade purely because the car is smaller. But it has sat nav, it has electric seats etc, we can fit in the stuff we need to fit in so it will do until we get our MME back when we get back in 10 days time. They have offered to upgrade it to a premium when we get back from Paris, it's just they aren't allowed for the premium cars to go abroad, but if it's something like an A5 that would be difficult to fit a pushchair in the boot so I would probably just hold on to the XC40 if for some reason our car still isn't fixed by that point.

They have mentioned refunding on our fuel so I am keeping recipes for that which is only fair, one of the reasons we got the EV was to cut down on fuel costs.

The US are getting new interface icons for settings, camera etc.

Can't wait for these to come out in one of the UK releases. The current icons look so out of place.

From what I gather, they do a visual inspection and a health check of tyres, brakes etc… you get a video showing the state of the under carriage. Also, they do a cabin filter change and a brake oil fluid change which is required every two years “allegedly”. 249 all in cost.
Just for information for anyone coming up to their First Service. Vehicle went in today, it's second birthday, to Evans Halshaw Ford in Preston for its first service at 2 years old with 18,000 miles on the clock. They replaced the cabin air filter, changed the brake fluid (yes, every 2 years is good practice as brake fluid is hygroscopic and absorbs moisture from the air - at the fluid/air interface in the brake fluid reservoir) and checked the vehicle visually. £ 295 all in cost. Yes, it's a bit on the expensive side for not doing much but it keeps the warranty happy and buys goodwill from the Ford dealer in the event of any future trouble...

I chatted with my service advisor when I went to collect the vehicle. She confirmed that Evans Halshaw Ford Preston have been replacing failed HVBJBs on all specs of the Mach E including a couple of Standard Range battery specs like mine. They are about to start on the recall proactive replacements anytime now for Extended Range battery spec cars.

Thanks for the heads up re HVBJB. Taking mine into Peoples Ford in Bootle for its second service. Quoted £193.68. Mine has done 32,000 miles. I actually had first service at 18,000 miles in Jan ‘23. That was done by Lawton’s of Tadcaster where I purchased the car. They were brilliant and did loads of updates for me. Will update on my experience at Peoples Bootle.

finally an update on this. I got an email from Ford Customer services, the new BECM has arrived and been fitted today. They’ve done a road test and found a knock from the front suspension so they’ve ’ordered a replacement part that will come in Friday or Monday’. I don’t know what this part is and nor I do really care. I get back from holiday on Saturday afternoon so couldn’t get the MME until Monday anyway..

Well, car was serviced and valeted for £193.68. The lady at reception was their Mach-E specialist and was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. I have had the “Door Malfunction” message pop up on the instrument cluster every time I start the car for the last few months although nothing seemed wrong with the doors. She knew about the problem and said it would require a new latch mechanism which would need ordering (covered under warranty). She then said she would organise my HVBJB recall work as they got the go ahead to proceed with that on the 18th. I’m scheduled in for the 6th of April. They will come to my house, drop off a Mach-E demonstrator and take my car for the recall work. Normally takes 3 days but because I’m on holiday in the Lake District that week, I can keep their Mach-E for a week and they’ll swap over on the Sunday evening when I return. Perfect timing!
