Looks like my mme didn't catch the boat from Mexico this week. Think next one is 30th April, so can probably guess to a late June early July delivery.
You was hoping on transport with the Grande Mirafiori? Me too, but no info so far. Car did not get any status update and is in Veracruz. However, I think the ship is still in the port, so there is some hope.

Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum so not sure whether to post on this thread or start a new one, I'll post here for now.

I'm test driving a MME and the tesla model y and 3 on Friday. I'm currently leaning quite heavily to the RWD long distance MME with tech kit in the sexy blue colour! I would like the AWD but for the price difference it doesn't really make sense. Happy to hear others thoughts though.

I've only got 30 minutes with the car so wondering if there's any suggestions of things to check out during my drive. For example what driving mode do most people use?

I'm coming from a jaguar XKR so gonna feel quite a lot different, but I've got a baby on the way so need a more family friendly alternative!

Another question. Is blue cruise automatically included on all the cars in the UK but its just not been implemented yet? Read differing comments as to whether its included or not.

I've done a fair bit of research generally re EVs and the MME and tesla in particular. But if anyone has any suggestions of things to read or watch, please feel free to send it to me.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to this forum. I guess our opinions are moulded by what we have driven previously. But here is my thoughts:
The bumpy ride - not a issue for myself but many do not like it - make sure you seek and listen to the opinions of the other half.
The touch screen is nice and large but I find it very difficult using it whilst driving - even as a passenger - mainly due to the bumpy ride. I think they could make it more user friendly - but I rarely use the voice commands so maybe its me who has to change.
The size of the car is good as is the leg room in the back - which is why I did not entertain the Model 3. I am glad I got the extended range it would have been nice to have the AWD - I dont feel so confident in the snow/ice. The other thing I would point out is that the car is heavy - my drive is beginning dint. Other things are minor for me - be nice to have a louder indicator and more accurate rain sensing wipers.

I fully agree, I suspect everyone has a different view on driving feel based on what they have driven previously. I have an older ford focus alongside the XKR but I am very use to bumpy rides with the Jag, I live fairly rural in Norfolk so will be on quite a few country roads so I'll be sure to test the car on these on Friday to see how the drive really feels.

I feel similar re the AWD, definitely nice to have for those harsher conditions, it's one of my issues with the XKR, it's a fantastic ride on a dry warm day, but one hell of a death trap in the winter or in the wet. I suspect I won't have anywhere near this issue with the RWD MME though as there is far less power going through the RWD. Do you get much wheel spinning or loss of traction from the MME?

How long have you had your MME now and how do you find the range you get compared to the 379 miles ford suggests? I understand weather plays a big part and in the winter this can drop quite drastically. Also, how have you found charge speeds at petrol stations or other charging stops? I will charge from home 80% of the time but for those longer national journeys just wondering how much more of a pain it is in practice moving to an EV .

The issues you mention with the console are another reason I have started to veer away from the tesla - I just don't like the idea of absolutely everything being controlled through a console, such as a glove box and wipers!

Welcome to the forum and to be a potential MME owner. You are in a better position than I was as you can actually test drive a car before you commit. I was an early adopter so didn't have that luxury. Having been a Ford man for over 40 years I didn't think it would be an issue. It wasn't/isn't. It is the best car I have ever owned up to now. There wasn't the choice there is now when I committed but if I had to do it all again I would still go for mine.
I have a ER RWD and chose that one because it had all the tech included (now optional tech pack) and I didn't think having AWD was worth the extra. A lot of the experiences/opinions you will get on here are personal ones which will undoubtably be different to yours. My advice is just to get in it, drive it, have an open mind and make the decision on YOUR feelings. Some complain about the firm ride but I find the ride perfect (for me). I had a Kuga ST Line X before this and that was a lot stiffer than the standard Kuga. My MME's ride is about the same as that.
One thing I will say, Blue cruise is not included. Although mine has the sensors on the steering consul our roads have not been "mapped" so even if we did get the software update for it we couldn't use it. I use "Active" mode 99% of the time. I don't feel that the others make much, if any, difference apart from you can feel a slight change to the steering and "go" pedal response.
One thing I DON'T like is the lane keeping assist. When activated on its own I find it guides you too close to the centre line for my liking. When used with Intelligent cruise control it becomes lane centering and is MUCH better.
Hope you have a good test drive. I am sure you won't be disappointed.

I appreciate the response and for the helpful information. As you indicate, we all have different opinions but it's good to hear how happy you are with your MME and you find it the best car you have own. I have never actually purchased a new car and being a bit of a petrol head this is potentially a big move for me.

Interesting about blue cruise, sounds like it's really not worth including in any consideration. Would this be the same then with Tesla's fully automated pilot system, since the legislation obviously isn't there and I guess this wouldn't have been mapped either?

I think you are right, I will find out far more during the test drive than I can reading or watching videos. I am really looking forward to giving it a try and I'll be sure to post back my thoughts and whether I have taken the plunge - 32 plus weeks wait seems a killer though!!

Hi Priceyrice and welcome to the UK thread on Macheforum.com

Lots of good responses so far to your request for feedback. It's early days for myself, having had my MME just 3 weeks and 477 miles...

I have model year 2022 MME AWD with standard range (apparently now discontinued). This 2022 spec gave me all the Tech options without having to go all the way to the Extended Range version.

Ride: I'm not sure I like it having come from a BMW 5 Series. But I am getting used to it. It's the bounciness, or lack of damping, that I notice rather than the firmness.

Touchscreen: I agree with @grovep that the touchscreen can be tricky when the vehicle is moving as ones finger is sometimes bouncing around. But there are workarounds such as using the voice commands and remembering that a lot of onscreen settings will auto-disappear once you have made your change.

Driving mode: My wife and I have been using Whisper mode and we like it just fine. The only thing that annoys me is the animated background to the instrument panel display. I cannot see any way to disable that but someone here might know...

All Wheel Drive: I went for this from a safety point of view thinking about snow and ice and winter. Remember that energy regeneration on RWD will be braking only the rear wheels whereas internal combustion cars will always have brake bias heavily towards the front. So I don't like the idea of that but those who have driven RWD for some time might like to comment...

Lane keeping assist: this was on by default when I got the car. You see the graphic of the car with lines to left and right on the instrument panel display. I immediatley got an unpleasant feeling that the car was trying to nudge the steering or at least alert me when I was driving on motorway or dual carriageway. The steering felt plain "lumpy". I turned it off (double press of the lane keeping button on the left hand part of the steering wheel) and now the steering is much more normal. I find the steering rather lifeless and the BMW 5 Series was pretty lifeless. Try thinking about steering feel while you are test driving.

One pedal driving: I am a big fan of this. Switch it on at the start of your test drive. You'll be driving like a kangaroo for the first 5 minutes but then I bet you'll love it. It is so easy to control the car including at very slow speeds on the drive, in car parks, etc.

Inside space: in the front of the car this is lovely. I'm no fan of privacy glass in the back or the relatively small back window but I'll probably get used to them. Have a think about that when you are sitting in the car. Be sure to do a bit of reversing to make you think about looking backwards. Of course, the rear camera gives a great picture but I'm probably still a bit old fashioned and like to lean back round the seat and see for myself!

Availability: 32 weeks sure sounds a long time but sometimes cars do become available on a much shorter timescale. Use the Ford inventory check on their website. I spotted my MME AWD SR showing 12 weeks availability. Ordered 26 Jan 2022 and delivered to dealer 6 weeks later.

Hope some of the above helpful and good to have you on the UK thread.

Like Grahame I’ve had my 2021 RWD ER for a year - and I’m also taking delivery of a new 2022 RWD ER in about 2 weeks.

I’m also based in Norfolk - so if you have any queries after your test drive give me a shout and hopefully I can help. :)

Hi and welcome!

Lots of good advice comments above.

One thing I would add is there is a certain amount of 'soul' involved with a Mach-E. It's a Mustang and for me my boat was fully floated!
But don't let that cloud your thinking.
My car is a rwd er with a standard tech pack inc panoramic roof. This was a standard model a year ago when I ordered it. I'm very pleased with this spec- it does all I want. Interestingly my car is in the garage for recall work and software updates and they gave me an AWD ER courtesy car. Prefer mine to be honest- the AWD has a black headlining and screen pillar trim. Sort of negates having the glass roof as it's depressingly black inside. My RWD has cream/ivory screen pillars and headlining and it's invitingly light and airy with the glass roof. Up to your preferences but I suggest you ask the question.
Also I find it more harsh than my RWD, living in Cornwall I don't need AWD as it rarely gets frosty!

But to compare with the Tesla's, as I did, is interesting. For me the Tesla 3 was out of the question as it's not a hatchback. Wouldn't suit us at all. The Y is better as it's a 'SUV' Like the Mach-E which is really a 4 door coupe in my opinion. Ford call it a SUV for marketing reasons I think. Both of these are low slung and thus for a 70 yr old like me makes them hard work. The Mach-E is easier to get in and out of which may be a deciding feature for you and your expanding family.

But the Tesla beater has to be the Instrument panel in front of the driver. The centre screen is more for Sat-Nav, heating, media and set ups. Once on the move I rarely if ever need to use the centre screen apart from the sat nav- even that has a small repeater on the instrument panel which is outstanding.

Anyway I've rambled on a bit- sorry!. Hope you enjoy your test drives and we wait to hear your comments afterwards.

Haven't got my car yet (still sitting on dockside in mexico).

but when we went to drive the model Y both myself and my wife felt car sick when driving whereas the mme, we both felt fine. never felt car sick driving anything else.
i went for the awd std range as our journeys are very short usually and liked the colour matched plastics and wheels on the black mme.

enjoy the test drive!

Cheers for the reply and info!

Keeping my ? today. Just delivered my car to my dealer to have the windscreen replaced. Taken a video inside and out (just in case). Hopefully 1 down 2 (next week for those) to go then we will be good to go.
Update.
Windscreen done. Looks like a good job although haven't driven it yet to make sure camera/sensors/elements work as we have had a change of plan (again) for the roof/update work. Dealer had some technician hours spare so he decided to finish my car off completely so it stayed in the hospital ward for a bit longer. Hopefully I will get it back today. He had already loaned out his MME demo car to another customer so I am stuck with a Fiesta. Not bothered though as I only needed it to get me home and back to work. If anyone else finds themselves in a similar predicament please, please remember that you HAVE to use the foot brake. It is amazing how natural using OPD becomes. oooopppppssss. Near miss time.
