I keep hearing this and I’ve never felt any power loss or difference on my Premium 4X - sounds like I saved not getting a GT lol
You don’t feel the power loss because you don’t have the power and to begin with. ?
I think the acceleration on my Premium 4x is more than enough honestly. Seems like I’d be giving up the longer “hold” of power for slightly better acceleration
It’s more than just “slightly.” At lower speeds the different is huge. But an extra 134 hp and 200+ tq should be noticeable of course.

That’s fair. I just don’t like the concept of a “boost” - I’d rather have that power all the time, rather than getting a “boost” of power. I know it’s not just the MME that does this though.

I still don’t know what you’re talking about.
The GT has different hardware than a premium. It’s not just a boost. Maybe you should drive a GT in Unbridle a couple of times.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t it just an appearance package with one of the motors also upgraded? I just feel like Ford could have done better with the GT.

I guess. The extra stickers adds 150 extra horses and 200 lbs/ft of torque. We can probably get the extra appearance for a lot less.

It’s like the same appearance extras between a Mustang GT and a GT500.

I believe this mode also disables regenerative braking and traction control (but maybe that can turn back on? Need to confirm this before I hit the track again). It is a "track" mode, the problem is that it does limit the performance for perhaps not that much extra endurance. It definitely isn't magic, would still like to test it out more myself, but if you're just on the road it is something you'll probably want to avoid.
Regen and traction control off

No.

Much like the regular gas powered Mustang GT, it includes more power, but also better suspension, brakes, wheels and tires.

Yes, the power off boost is frustrating.

But look at the handling and braking stats and you’ll see it’s much more than just an appearance package.

Even at 5000 lbs, the GTPE pulls more G on the skidpad than almost every non Shelby Mustang made in the past. Only the most recent performance package Mustang GT can pull more G in a corner.

Pretty much the only performance complaint is the power drop off. And 2024 may fix that as well as some *soon OTA update.

Don‘t get your hopes up. Unbridle Extend just reduces power output so that the car can last longer on the track without overheating.
I’d love to have been in the meeting where the marketing geniuses at Ford tried to come up for a way to tell people “Slow down, you’ll last longer”

As I recall, the GT trim originally wasn't supposed to be a thing. They did what they could with a lot of common parts (eg the battery system). I think they should have been a lot more forthcoming with the limitations, but the alternate was probably no GT until now ish with a refined battery system.

I think that was a rumor early on when this project wasn’t originally going to be a “Mustang.”

But I have hard time believing Ford would ever have considered this car without planning a GT.

People pick on the performance aspect based on the 1 thing it can’t do- accelerate quickly above 75 mph.

But everything else about it is top notch for a performance SUV.

When it came out in 2021, the only SUV on the market with a higher skidpad and shorter braking distance was the Lamborghini Urus.

But because Ford fumbled on the 1 yard line with the power delivery……. No one even notices the handling and braking.

Not the GTPE.

Unless I missed it, I don’t think the GTPE ever got moose tested.

There is a world of difference in handling between the GTPE and the base models.

Not sure which one they used. I think it was a premium. The moose test has less to do with the suspension and more to do with the ESC.
I have a regular GT. I think the suspension is fine for a sports crossover. I little stiffer up front would be better. It dives to the outside corner a bit too much. The ESC does weird shit though. There are times that it comes on too late and make the car under steer.

You don't have to sell me on the GT ;) this thing was (V8 rumble aside) so much more fun to take to the track school than my old mustang. Given what was on the market at the time I'm still quite happy.
