Adds to frustration, hard to enforce (nothing keeps someone else from parking there trying to use the unit while you show up and make them move?) and makes charging less efficient (dead time while waiting for the reservation person to show up).
Bad idea.
But if there is $$ to be made…..they’ll do it.
Just like the Disney “fast pass” like was mentioned. Some people pay less to wait less which makes everyone else in line wait longer. But this is worse because there will be gaps in the “line” waiting for the fast pass people to show up.

Maybe in the short term public DCFC should be treated like a hotel mini bar.
Put a gate on the spots.
You have to provide payment to get the gate to open so you can enter or leave the spot.
The gate charges idle fees of $5 a minute once the car reaches 100% or is unplugged and the car remains in the spot. Maybe have pressure sensors as well. That discourages someone from remaining in the spot after unplugging or using it as a parking spot.
The ultimate solution is ubiquitous DCFC. That will be coming Soon™.

At my office, Chargepoint allows us to do a variant of this for free. I can join the waitlist while it's empty and I have 15 minutes to plug in. Or I can join the waitlist while working and get notified when it's my turn. I can join in the app or by tapping a charger that is in use.
Honestly, I wish some DCFCs did something like a waitlist. At several places I've been to where there is a wait, there isn't a defined "line" to wait in and some people are a bit "aggressive" about taking a spot when others have been waiting longer.

When a timeslot is reserved, the charger will only activate for the person/account that reserved the charger. The person that reserved it, has a certain amount of leeway before the charger skips that reservation. I don't recall the exact amount of time you are allowed. I remember seeing a Kyle Conner video about this at one point.

How long will the charger be held for me?
The charger will be held for 20 minutes after your reserved start time. If those 20 minutes pass without use, the charger will be made available for all EV drivers and you will be charged an additional $2 no-show fee.

I believe in convenience. Hence on 3 day weekends and other such occasions reservations may make sense. Usually such a thing would be the next opening after you arrive. In rural isolated areas level two chargers need reservations. You need to be able to count on getting the charge about when you want and need it. Not 10 hours later. If someone's belief is 'no reservation'' don't get one.

Outside of some specific locations even with Tesla superchargers on busy days, it's all about the total count of charging stations while traveling outside of the typical range of an EV (250-330 miles). 4 DCFCs per location (EA, EVgo, etc) isn't going to cut it. Tesla moving forward with the 100-200 Supercharger stations makes sense and will eliminate the need for reservations. The current need to charge for 40 - 60 min will be reduced to 15-30 min sense a few miles down the road another large group of stations will be available.
