I'm in the same boat, but apparently Sync 4 offers wireless CarPlay, and so I may give it another shot. Having to plug in my phone just to use Waze or Apple maps was always a deal breaker for me. I also don't like how enabling CarPlay currently disables non-CarPlay apps, i.e., AppLink apps, which often have a better, more integrated experience.

Given that now all the physical buttons are gone, let's hope another frustration of mine is gone: right now when using CarPlay, I feel like I have to jump through hoops to get back to my car's actual controls. If I have to jump through hoops to adjust the climate control, then I'll simply never use CarPlay.
Apple MapS has gotten way better. CarPlay is still lackluster but pretty nice if you have a lot of HomeKit stuff. I pull into the neighborhood and get a prompt to open my garage door so that’s nice.

My 2 cents (FWIW) the connected services would mean anything that cannot be done in the car. For example, the range estimator that Ford is touting depends on connected services such as live traffic data and weather to make sure you have enough charge to complete the route or suggest a charging point(s) along the way. The access to the charging data (what chargers are available/functional and not in use) is also something that car has to use a connected service for. Also, Ford has stated that the Active Drive Assist is $600 for the first 3 years. It would be interesting to see where connected services and maps fall into that model. Ford doesn't line item things for the heck of it. Right now I count two subscriptions that Ford is directly offering to customers. That doesn't include SirusXM and the ATT mobile hot spot. So total, this car has 4 subscriptions associated with it. That we know of.

CarPlay works... But the integrated charger mapping with the Sync 4a system looks pretty seamless. May stick with that until Ford supports Apple Maps EV Routing.

I take one day off, and miss 10 pages of posts in just this thread!!!

I am reminded of when the Chevy Volt was shown by GM at the car shows in the fall of 2007. They had such a strong response that Bob Lutz went to management to push for authorization to build this vehicle. They promised delivery before the end of 2010.

Dr. Lyle Dennis started a web site and I joined in Nov, 2007. He added what he called was a "wait list" and very quickly it had over 40,000 names on it. So we had three years to discuss, guess, and rant about all things Volt. GM made a great decision to join in the web discussion with lots of tidbits, information, and sneak peeks. They even admitted to using some of the ideas discussed being implemented in the design. My wife was so sick of me talking about that car!

Then it started to go sour. The promised price of "well under $30,000" went to a base price of over $42,000. The concept car styling was changed drastically. We all assumed they would use the "wait list" for their initial builds, which never happened. And then the big item that REALLY made many angry - GM decided that for the 1st year, they would only sell the Volt in the 10 CARB states. You can not imagine the anger in the posts that were made! And GM only fanned the fires. Some people that lived close to a CARB state said they would just drive over a state line and purchase there. GM came back with - there will be no service in states not authorized to sell! GM really pissed off the early adopters. A mistake they did not repeat with the introduction of the 2017 Bolt EV.

So I was not even able to order a 2011 Volt. I ordered a 2012 in late July, 2011 and took delivery in October. I still own it!!! It will get traded in on the MachE. It is an amazing vehicle that I only hope will be surpassed by the MachE!

So all in all, I think the postings here have been relatively tame..... Yes, Ford marketing should have taken an interest in the forums, but they still don't seem to get it.

And Yes I reserved a Premium RWD Extended Range Mach E in Jan, 2020 and converted to on order on Jun 30th. My build date is the 1st week of Feb, 2020 which is past many with reservation numbers much higher than mine. I now expect delivery around the end of February. I was hoping for an early Jan, 2021 delivery, but those few days are hardly worth getting so angry about it.

Cars are being built. Cars are being shipped. And I have about 60 days to go....

I am hoping for a great 2021!!!

I’d like to offer a perspective as a HUGE apple fanboy. My opinion of CarPlay? Meh. I’ve tried it a few times and prefer Sync 3 to CarPlay. The experience is smoother and more integrated. And I’ve cross checked Apple Maps routing against Sync routing and they’re usually identical with similar timing. Maybe if apple controlled the end-to-end platform, it would be a different thing, but honestly, the iPhone UI really isn’t optimized for a car, no matter how much you enlarge and simplify it. You have to “pay attention” to the iPhone UI. With Sync 3, I normally don’t fiddle with the UI. I use voice commands, or the hard buttons (volume, occasionally tune up/down to go to an adjacent SiriusXM station). I can’t comment on the Android infrastructure, I know nothing of it.
I am an Apple user too . . . and I find CarPlay far superior to the synch 3 in my 2016 Escape. So much so, that I bought the hub that was needed to upgrade my car to be able to use CarPlay. Before that, I had my phone on one of those holders because Waze on Sync looked awful. Now, my car did not have integrated Nav from Ford, and maybe that would make a difference, but I use Waze daily, and use CarPlay for my podcasts and audible books while I drive. It’s a lot nicer now to just plug in the phone and set it to the side.

As soon as your car is queued up in Ford's system with a status of "sent to plant" you can get your sticker. That occurs before they actually start building your car, and the timeframes are fuzzy right now. My car was "sent to plant" on dec 11th, I could see my sticker on the 12th, but no actual construction of my car began until e few days ago. Others have had much shorter times through the phases, so it seems that supply and personnel constraints are leading to variability.

I think my sticker was available about 2
Days before my scheduled build week was set to start (sticker available 4 December for a 6 December start week).

Andriod auto is rather good. Infinitely better that sync 3.
How so? I haven't found any feature that I use in sync 3 that is surpassed by Android Auto. What am I missing?

Agreed. Typically use Sync3 for its Nav integration. Turn by turn on the driver info screen. Doubt TbyT will work in MME with Apple Maps. Run Waze on the phone for comparison. Pull it up if I care to use Waze routing.

There was a Ford press release a while ago saying that they were importing Plugshare data into their system...
That's good to hear for newbies like me!

Maybe.

Some of these sorts of subscription services on earlier Ford vehicles were supposed to be free for a few years, then paid subscription. At that point, Ford decided not to bother with the charge. All we know now is that these navigation services are included for 3 years. In a few years we'll find out if we have to pay or not. If we do, it will probably be a modest cost.

Note that this is definitely separate from the WiFi hotspot subscription that is only free for 3 months, then requires service from ATT at a fee.
Can someone who regularly uses a WiFi Hotspot let me know what they find it most useful for? I am trying to understand the functionality of the WiFi Hotspot unless you are constantly on the road.
