The cost is high because of all your fancy polished electrons that stimulate your battery providing longer life and smoother acceleration.

Here in BC we supplement our electrons with recycled and slightly refined cooking oils. This has brought the dc charging down significantly.

The best benefit of this product is my Mach-E now smells exactly like a ‘67 Mustang in desperate need of new rings and a rebore. It confuses the heck out of the boy/girl racers.

The cost at the local hydro charger is 36c. The charge rate is a slower “fast charge” to ensure the product stays in the right state with the oil enhancements.

Tesla’s peak charge is 38c using the fancy electrons.
Which is about a US quarter per kW.
It is currently .26c or US15c.

I don’t go to Seattle to charge!

Heck home charging in So Cal is 0.52/kwh during peak hours and 0.28 during non-peak. Doing the math factoring in maintenance etc I'd have been better off with a hybrid vehicle (oil changes vs tires vs higher registration and increased insurance cost) but 0% got me to buy my second one last November

For Southern California, depending on which chargers I use, it's roughly $0.52-0.58 kwh. I opt to pay the $12.99 to EVgo a monthly for 30% off my charging fees. That way I don't feel ripped off of I use public charging.

Paid $0.64 at EA in Duluth when I first got the car, just to get some experience charging. I pay $0.48 at EA in St. Paul area, close to where my son lives. At home, I'm on Time-of-Day and charge mostly 11pm to 5am where the "advertised" cost is $0.074. After adding taxes and other extras, it comes out to about $0.13/kWh. The "Standard" rate (not Time-of-Day) would be about $0.17.

Paid $0.44 at Tesla in nearby Two Harbors, another trial run to test out my NACS adapter.

Electricity is expensive here as it comes mostly from a distance. There are not as many EVs in my area and these chargers sit idle a lot. Duluth and North Shore is popular tourist area, so the demand picks up when tourist season picks up, so they do get used. Anyway, high energy cost and lack of scale keeps public charging fairly expensive here.

I did not buy EV to save money. I do save when charging at home, but the extra cost of the vehicle, etc., doesn't make it a money saver. I bought it for the experience, and I'm not disappointed. I believe cost of EVs will go down as more are built and purchased and soon will be on par with ICE vehicles (which keep going up in cost).

PA DCFCs don’t display prices, the way gas pumps do. The prices are buried in obscure submenus and the dispensers are made with LCD screens that wash out in any ambient light and conveniently are poorly backlit for nighttime lack of readability.

This is underappreciated.

While it might seem burdonsome overregulation, the rules about posting gas prices regarding size of font and visibility mean a person knows the price driving by, and we have a great America because we have a better capitalistic market.

Similar regs for chargers would be an excellent step forward, and an example of government doing good.

I haven’t had easy access to my home charger for the past few days, so I took my car to the EVgo charger nearby. 47.886 KWh cost $30.94. I know electricity is stupidly expensive in the Philadelphia area, but this seems a bit … excessive? Does this sound reasonable? Note that I am not a “member” of any charging network because I rarely DCFC.

Its not the quality of the electrons, it's not the detergents, its the high quality capacitors and electronics! You know a poorly maintained charger can do permanent damage to your car? Overvoltage? Undervoltage? Bad wave forms? Abrupt inrush currents?

Our chargers even induce a slight modulation in the dc current which improves battery state of health, when used consistently!

Regarding price, supercharger overnight is probably the best in my area, even less than i pay at home. tesla seems to do the best at setting prices, with per station time bands. Bonus, if its cheap, probaby the charger is underused.

Also, there are municipal L2 chargers (in city owned and operated garages) that are also below residential rates, near me.

I will not mention the prices we pay for electricity.

I don't know if I am surprised or stunned when I see what you are paying south of the border! In USD as well! My home electric bill jumped up to $125/month CND after I got the Mach E and I was working out cost of electricity via difference in billing from the year before. I drive about 25,000 a year and the cost is between $50-60/month for the car portion of the bill. Still much cheaper than gas here.

DCFC aren't a good value. They're convenient, and fast, but they're anything but cheap.

I charge at home whenever I can. 11c/kwH (Colorado)
