Even though I've had my Mach-E since March, the last time I was able to look at the old app, I saw that the "certificate" for Tesla had not been validated. Apparently this is still the case since I was on a road trip this week and could not get Plug and Charge to work at Tesla Superchargers. I tried several times and no go. I had to rely on the Tesla app to get the charger to work with my car.

FYI I should inform you that hitch is severely overloaded. The maximum weight the hitch can carry is 165 lbs (rack+scooter) and that weight must centered within 1' of the hitch receiver. The fact the weight so far behind the rear bumper puts an extreme amount of leverage on the hitch, and has clearly already bent the hitch or the frame.

Unfortunately from an engineering standpoint it is not feasible to carry a mobility scooter behind the Mach-E without exceeding structural load limits.

I was curious if anyone has received their adapter and has used the Tesla system. I am supposed to get mine in September according to the new email. sent the other day.

After my tripv Crossfield to Vancouver my road trip experiences gave me huge insight and had I an opportunity to speak to experienced EV drivers.

Has anyone had issues charging at a Tesla charger and do you need to sign up for the membership

Mine did very well in the trip even with my mobility scooter on the back, averaged 19kwh/100 km.

That looks like the Electrify Canada station in Hope, BC. Hope is the town with a wooden statue of Rambo.

I can explain the fault reading. Tesla chargers have a cooling system built in. However the adapters do not. As such for safety reasons the chargers turn off when they get too hot. The best remedy for this is to wrap a hand towel around the adapter. This will keep it cool enough to get to 80% otherwise it takes 30 minutes to cool off. I keep my adapter in the styrofoam case it came in on the bottom portion of the center console. It fires perfectly and stays cool when not in use.
The Tesla supplied adapters do not turn off. They send the temperature to the charger, and it slows the charge rate. Happens all the time with my Rivian, pulls 500A for a few minutes, then drops to 300A.

The third party adapters have a poor design.

Just make sure the station is open to non-tesla EV. They work well and I personally store mine in my cabin to keep them cool before I use them.

I used my Ford>>Tesla adapter for the 5th time (this weekend) in Gaffney, SC. As always, it works flawslessly. As for the cost, I do so few road trips during the year, I generally don't worry about if I I'm going to save $5 versus an EA station that may have 1/2 the damn chargers not working.

This time I went to the public charging screen and put the city in the search bar and selected the Tesla charger from the screen. It was easy and was happy with that manuever. I find the route planning on Ford's Nav to be a little strange in how they want me to stop. So I liked pulling the station up myself.

There must be a benefit to a poor design 3 months sooner, or a better design that i haven't received yet.

Thanks for the info, this makes sense. There was one hot day where a tesla charger kept disconnecting, but its buddy next stall over charged perfectly for me. Who knows why.

Earlier this summer I took a 3000 miles road trip where I had 2 A2Z adapters. I charged mostly at Tesla sites. At least on my route they were located about every 150 miles. The only issues I ran into were a charger fault n Spokane, an inconveniently high curb in Missoula, and this guy:

If you have plug and charge activated for the car and have received the TSC update that loads the Tesla Certificate into the car then you are good to go. The only advantage of using the Tesla app is if you sign up for the membership. This gets you some discount on power but if you don’t use it all the time it’s isn’t worth the money. I did use A Better Route Planner and PlugShare for my planning and ABRP for maps.

Once you get the adapter go to a compatible Supercharger and use it. Don’t wait until you are on your trip. Familiarize yourself with the process ahead of time.

I just did a roundtrip Vancouver, WA to Spokane and back all on Tesla superchargers.. First time using the Ford adapter. No issues at all other than first couple of time s I found if difficult to remove adapter from Telsa plug after use. Seemed to get better the more I used it. One stop I had to pull in sideways to an end unit and I was over the line a little bit (cord was at its limit) and a tesla owner questioned me why I was over the line (he still was able to back in). He must gotten out the wrong side of the bed. Other than that it was smooth and flawless. One thing I noticed that after I charged and started on the road, the jail bars were numerous for few minutes and then they went off. Not sure what thats all about. I just took it easy until they went away.

You have to have a membership for it to work.
You do NOT have to have a Tesla charging membership for the charging to work. You can activate the charger via the Tesla or Ford app and pay the non-member rate.

Where I am, the member rate only shaves $0.05 off the per kWh price, so I would have to use about 1050mi of charging per month at Tesla stations to offset the $17/month price. However, as soon as I leave Metro Vancouver, the savings with the membership only grow.

A mobility scooter ... makes sense. You need to tell people you are carrying a generator, with gasoline canisters in the frunk. Grenade pin removed ... :)

Worked for me: I drove to Vancouver and back with it, 1000 km both ways for a cruise to Alaska. In that picture there is also about 500 lbs additinal clothes in the trunk (wife needs most of her close on these trips). Sat the back end down. Nothing got bent except the aluminum straps on the carrier where the wheels sat. I am a retired million miler trucker so it got checked everytime we stopped.

It drove and worked perfect in my mind, only time there was an issue was coming onto a street from after charging, scraped a little.

Got better energy consumption because I drove like I would have driving tuck smooth and no more than 105 km/ hr. Averaged 19kwh/100 km on trip. Since we got home it is too fun to drive so can't get it that low. I was trying to explain to my wife how to accelerate easy, set the cruise and we could get better consumption but her answer was "I don't drive like that". I quit trying then...... I just knew. When it's fun to drive, why not have fun.

Thank you,
I am planning a trip to Northern Saskatchewan and the the province doesn't have the province wide charging infrastructure quite yet. Tesla charger is the only option for me to be able to get to Saskatoon. Didn't want to take off and get into no man's land.
