Judging from this mornings GOM.....it looks like about an 8-10% range hit when ambient temps are so high. I am pretty sure my previous BEV was a solid 10% reduction during the summer. Maybe the MME will land in the same general area after the summer is over and I have more opportunity to observe and make comparisons.

Correct. More specifically.....it just cools the battery.

The car will charge outside your schedule if that is required to achieve your target charge level by the end of the schedule or your next go time.

I installed a ChargePoint Home Flex at 48A so it will be able to recharge in the 6 hr window. The 32A EVSE I was previously using couldn't charge fast enough so my wife uses that one now. She has a PHEV Wrangler.

How is the CPHF performing in the hot garage? @macchiaz-o posted a pic in another thread of his Ford charger showing overheat.

Perfect so far. It has a more traditional type contactor inside. Not as robust as the Aerovironment-RS but it's mechanical still. I hear an audible "chunk" when the EVSE begins to deliver power. Those types of service equipment generate much less heat than the solid state type.

One thing to note.....I charge my cars outside the garage during the summer months because I don't want to turn my garage into an oven. It's hot enough in there already so putting my car in a hot box and then expecting it to cool itself isn't really all that good for the vehicle.

I have my CPHF mounted just inside the garage door and the cord is long enough to service the two spaces in the garage and the space in the driveway on that side. I then have the Aerovironment-RS mounted on the exterior of the garage on the opposite side. That unit's cord is long enough to service all 6 parking spaces that I have at home (2 in the garage, 2 in the driveway and 2 on the side yard drive).

ChargePoint was back in stock at SRP Marketplace. For less than a week. It's gone again.

But I called a few Ford parts departments and the one at LHM Mesa let me know that he doesn't have the FCCS in stock and his suppliers don't show any in stock either. (So, an indefinite delay.) But he checked other local dealers and told me who's got 'em and how many...

So I called up AutoNation Scottsdale and had a service writer write up a "repair order" so that I could redeem FordPass Rewards points towards purchase.

The way I've run the numbers, after the tax credit and everything else, it ends up costing me about $300. Not bad! So I picked that up today and installed it after work. Here's how it looks while doing it's firmware update. At least, I hope that's what happened and not something worse! :)

Great deal that you were able to use your FordPass points. Will be very curious to see if that unit gets hot like the mobile EVSE. My money is that it will be just fine and maintain whatever charge rate you set without it de-rating itself due to overheating. ?

Assuming that you are charging in your garage, have you noticed it being significantly hotter? More than when parking a hot ICE car in it?

I am curious to look up where the ambient temp sensor is on this vehicle. It seems very dynamic and registers changes quickly. I might see very high temps on the concrete freeways and then it will drop 4-5 degrees when I exit onto surface streets and then maybe lower a few more degrees if I park under a tree or in a shady spot. The temp in my parking spot at the office read 120 degrees today. Felt like it too. Of course the car displayed the "please plug me in ? " message, so I complied of course.

Waited and watched the car and it didn't start the fans or compressor or anything. Glanced at Ford Pass and it showed the message "TARGET CHARGE REACHED". This is because I have the schedule set to NOT charge at work during business hours and even when it does reach the scheduled time.....only charge to 50% while at work. This allows me to set a departure time of 5:20 pm and it won't force charge the vehicle outside the schedule while at the office.

A little later I walked outside and noticed the front louvers opening and then the fan and pumps turned on. No A/C chiller though. Fans ran at moderate speed for about 5 or 6 minutes. During that time Ford Pass said "PLUGGED IN NOT CHARGING" and the charge ring was blinking. Just the one segment though......similar to what you see when it is charging. Then after the fans shut off and the louvers closed, the charge ring turned off and Ford Pass went back to "TARGET CHARGE REACHED".

It would be neat if Ford Pass would show "BATTERY CONDITIONING ACTIVE" or something similar. Maybe a future update? ?

Oh yeah.....
Here is a photo of my home setup that I mentioned earlier. One EVSE inside (ChargePoint Home Flex @48A) and one outside (Aerovironment-RS @32A). With this configuration I can charge my vehicles wherever they are parked except for the street.

Yes, parked in southwest facing 2-car garage with garage door closed. Not noticing anything like that so far.

Just speculation, but my guess is that an ICE car will transfer more heat to the garage than a BEV, even after accounting for 3-5 hours of energy losses while charging the EV.

I'm just imagining the intense high temps held by an engine block, catalytic converter, brakes, and such. I realize the battery pack is a huge "warm" mass, but I suspect components on a BEV don't get anywhere near as hot as certain areas of an ICE mobile.

That makes sense and is what I was figuring. @SnBGC is just making me nervous. ?

I understand that this:

Ford Mustang Mach-E Warmest day so far this summer. PXL_20210605_013844111.MP

... is from me driving around during this:

Ford Mustang Mach-E Warmest day so far this summer. PXL_20210605_013848909.MP

So I parked and plugged it in, since I've arrived at home where that's easy to do.

But then nothing special happens. I don't hear any fans or chillers or whatnot. Why not?

BTW, charging is delayed until 11 pm per my vehicle's location based settings. The EVSE isn't set up with any sort of time restrictions.
