Yesterday was the first day we had rain since I picked up the MME on Monday. I notice there was very little beading on the car.
Should I get a good coat of wax on it this weekend, or am I making beeswax out of a beehive?

No reason to rush. Put on what you would normally put on, when it works for you.

I think I will hit the carwash after work today and get a good waxing.
Since the car wash I will be going to is a stationary wash, no need to work about autohold/L, etc

I’ve never taken our 4 month wonder to the car wash - hand wash only. Using ArmourAll car shampoo, chenille microfiber mit, 2 buckets, and microfiber drying cloths. I figure the exercise is good for me and I’ll break even on cost's after 4-5 washes.

Could you explain your statement about auto hold and Low gear at the wash? If I ever decide to use a commercial car wash, I need to know these tips! Thanks.

The lack of water beading is an indication that your paint is not protected. While you don't have to drop everything and take care of it immediately, your paint will be harder to clean and more suspectable to bird bombs and other contaminants.

I personally would wash the car, decontaminate the paint, and then apply your preferred type of paint protection (wax, sealant, or ceramic coating).

If you want to use car wax, I would recommend either Collinite 845 or 3D Poxy.

If you want a spray ceramic-infused wax/sealant, I would go with either Griots Garage 3-in-1 Ceramic Wax or Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Sealant.

If you want an easy DIY ceramic coating, it doesn't get easier than Gyeon Cancoat Evo.

My Father-in-law used to work in the auto paint business, and according to him you should wait a while to wax fresh paint so that it cures properly. So, it depends how long ago your car was built but his suggestion was at least 3 months, 6 being better. FWIW.

If you need the car to stay in Neutral, shift it there and then hit the L button. But you don't need to remember that because a message pops up on the IPC with that instruction when you shift to Neutral.

Check out your local car detailer for ceramic coating installation and almost never have to wash the car again just leave it out when it rains.

I am pretty sure this advice is outdated, at least as it applies to a brand new car. Modern car paint and painting processes result in the paint being fully cured when it leaves the factory. So if you want, you can apply a wax or sealant to your new MME the same day you take delivery.

Here is a quote from a Meguiars car care representative:

"Re: How Soon Can I wax a new car?

Factory paint is baked on at high temp for a fairly long period of time - more importantly, the paint is formulated such that this baking process is sufficient to fully cure it. Therefore, you can safely wax your new truck tonight if you wish! Heck, you can even clay it, compound and polish it if need be. In other words - Go For It!!

Had the car since August, have not washed it yet. It's built up a nice layer to repel nasty UV rays.

people still use wax? I think ceramic coating lasts a lot longer and protects better. I used to do wax. Switched to ceramic coating a few years back and never went back.

I’m thinking of taking the MME to a car wash and have a bit of concern about the little vents at the bottom of the front spoiler that are open at times. Can someone tell me what causes them to be open, so if I do go through the car wash, I’ll be sure to have them closed.
