I’m an electrician, a tech nerd, and work at Ford. I have been interested in Tesla since the announced the OG Roadster, and have watched them closely. Not because EV’s are better for the environment (that’s an added benefit for me), but because the technology involved interests me. Because I work for Ford, I was not comfortable with the idea of purchasing a competitors vehicle. I’m not judging people that do buy from their employers direct competition, but it doesn’t sit well with my personal ethics. Anyway, when I purchased my 2018 escape, I looked at the Fusion, but it didn’t have enough range to get me to and from work on a single charge, so that made it a no go for me.

When they unveiled the Mach-E, I was sitting at a computer at work, watching, excited to see the electric Mustang. The disappointment I felt when I saw that it is a 4-door crossover angered (and still does) the Mustang fan side of me, but the rest of me looked objectively at the entirety of the vehicle. My initial thoughts were “God, I hope they come to their senses on the name, because I would order one right now if it didn’t have the Mustang name attached. The styling is among the best I’ve seen in a while, and the technology is amazing. But, there’s no way in hell I’m buying one as long as they insult the Mustang nameplate like that.”. Fast forward to February of 2021, and my local dealer had 3 in the dealership, one of them a demo car. I took the demo car for a spin, and was amazed by the power that it (standard range, rwd, star white) had. I told my salesman that it was a good thing the car was configured thusly because if it was AWD, extended range, and red/black/blue I’d be doing paperwork to take it home with me. A couple weeks went by, and I was driving past the dealership on a late Saturday afternoon, and the Smurfmobile caught my eye. I pulled into the dealership and went to look at the window sticker; it met all my requirements. I went in and talked to my salesman, and told him that I would text him on Sunday if I would be in first thing Monday to purchase it, I had to get home and run the numbers.

First thing, check to see if I’m upside down on the escape, I’m not. Second, what is this going to do to my insurance? Goes up $12 every 6 months. I can live with that.

t texted him on that Sunday that I’d see him Monday morning.

While we were doing the paperwork, 3 people came into the dealership asking about the car, sorry suckers it’s sold now, better luck next time.

The next day, I take the title from the escape up to the dealership, andSON OF A BITCH!!!!! There’s a Rapid Red 4X First Edition sitting where the Smurfmobile had been. It had been delivered about 45 minutes after I drove away yesterday. Had I known, we would have done the paperwork for the red one, because the Rapid Red shows off the lines of the car best in my opinion.

In my parking garage, the day my neighbor got the Mach E, he bumped into my KIA while trying to park. I asked him to give me a tour of it, and drove me around the block.
I simply went to the dealer to test drive it, curious about the EV and I left with the car. Still a little surprised I bought it, but the screen and EV was appealing. I love it.
For me i was replacing a nearly 15 year old vehicle that was on her last legs. I'm one to hold onto a vehicle for a long time so I knew my next car had to be electric, no question about it.

With that said, it came down to looks, utility and range for me.

The Mach-E is really sexiest looking EV in it's price range and vehicle segment. The fact that the interior also looked incredibly sexy, and clean while offering very familiar functionality without being overly "cheap" or as they say these day's "minimalist" was a huge plus for me.

I have a family so whatever I was buying had to have enough utility to haul around the 4 of us on a camp trip or something with all our gear. The Mach-E definitely ticked that box while still remaining incredibly sexy, which is a very difficult feat to pull off I must say!

And lastly the vehicle I was replacing got me on average around 450km - 500km per tank with mostly city driving. The Mach-E EPA estimate of 440km was right within the sweet spot of what I had become accustomed to with my previous vehicle, so at this point I was all in, and I am so incredibly happy with my purchase!!

  • It's a BEV
  • It's a good looking car
  • It's a mustang (my fourth)
  • It's fast and fun to drive
  • It has the right combination of style and functionality (ie not a Tesla Catfish)
  • It has normal controls so my wife will drive it; if I had to give her a half hour training on how to set the seats, mirrors, turn on wipers, etc she'd pass
  • It's available at a good price for a BEV
  • It's engineered here in the US by a US company whose profits stay in the US
  • The CEO isn't a self-absorbed lunatic

I thought that our first fully electric car would be a Tesla but then Ford came out with the Mach E and that changed everything!
Ha yeah! Funny enough, I KIND OF wanted a Tesla, but kept waiting for something else. The Tesla, as cool as it looks, seemed cheap. The MachE hooked me.

My doctor has a Tesla MY and we were comparing them side by side. The MME is SO much nicer inside and out!! He’s a hard core Tesla guy but was VERY impressed with the MachE!!

When the IONIQ5 was previewed earlier this year I knew that would be my next car after lots of different ICE cars from a Pontiac Sunfire all the way to my current Soul, with good and bad decisions in-between.

But as Hyundai was playing coy with pricing and delivery, I started to look what else was out there and saw one of those crazy YouTube videos with the awful thumbnail of a guy screaming at the camera (a scene which was, thankfully, not in the video itself), about how the Mach-E was better than the IONIQ5 based on early non-production versions in the UK.

I knew all electric would work for me and my lifestyle and the pricing, after running it all, would work for my income and family, but it was actually seeing videos and driving the thing (multiple times) that really tipped me over from waiting for the IONIQ5 or the EV6 and going with the Mach-E order (hopefully coming in December after my September 27 build date).

It's just refined and seems to be a car that happens to be electric rather than an EV and then a car (which it seems like Teslas are). Plus, everyone has a Tesla, and there's the gadget geek part of me that is like, "shiny new thing!" but there's also the part of me that is I want something unique that not many people have (I've only seen one in the wild here in AZ, although I know many forum members are from here). It's a conversation starter, it's techie, but it's also practical, good range, good drivability, good features, it's made by an established car company and while it may have some shortcomings, everything I've read I can live with now and know anything software will get worked out eventually.

It checked all the boxes for my personality and lifestyle, would a Bolt EV do that, probably, other than the conversation starter, there's a few die hard Mustang fans that I know will strike up a convo when they see the pony on this and two extra doors :)

Drove the ID.4, Model 3, and Y. For chuckles, I figured I'd at least test drive the MME, even though I didn't like the painted grille.

After driving the Mustang, it suddenly and unexpectedly, became my #1 choice. Fifteen weeks ago today, I placed my order. (Chips, anybody?)

Reviews, looks, and electric. My previous car was very loud with remote start up in the morning, waking up my wife and neighbors. I get to work 30-40 mins early every day, because I hate to be late. So I would sit there and the engine would be running most times because its very hot/cold, burning gas. This may sound bad, but I don't really care. I don't care about burning gas, saving trees etc, being loud and wasting money idling for hours each week was getting old. And maintenance on the old car was pricey. First EV care I ever drove.

I am VERY happy with 97% of the vehicle. Just one big problem and few small annoyances. Hopefully things get ironed out.

I didn’t care about it being a Ford or not being a Tesla. I was waiting for a few years for an EV that checked all four of my boxes:
  • Crossover / SUV (I like the roominess and ride height)
  • Looks good
  • 250+ mile range
  • Less than 50k after tax credit
The Mach E was the first EV to deliver on all four. The Tesla Model X way failed the price test. The Audi E-Tron failed the price and range tests. The VW ID.4 failed the range and looks tests.

And technically my Mach E is more than 50k after tax credit, but that’s only because I ended up springing for the First Edition to get a Grabber Blue. Male weakness.

Ha, #2, really? My S has the air suspension and goes from 5.4" to 6.9 so it actually can get higher than this "SUV," when I need it to. But I am getting one anyway, because it's gorgeous and all of the above that everyone else said.

Only my 2nd Mustang, though, after my 1964 1/2.

I am keeping my S for its free supercharging for life status and that pano retractable sunroof that doesn't exist anymore in Tesla.

Maybe Ford will come out with a convertible Mach e one day?

Enjoying the wait and learning all about it along the way
