Talking at a DCFC. What is the max kWh you should expect to see when charging?

Sorry if this has already been posted, a search didn't show it

You mean kW..not kWh.

kWh is "how many gallons of gas in the tank" so to speak.

kW is "how fast those gallons go into the tank"

For an ER battery DCFC will max out at 150kW (and thus you'll have 88kWh "gallons in the tank" when at 100%).

For a SR battery DCFC will max out at 115kW (and thus you'll have 68kWh "gallons in the tank" when at 100%).

BUT you'll only see those for a very short period of time if you start out with a low (say 10%) state of charge.

Yes, that's the info I was looking for. New to EV so not real clear on terminology just yet.

I could have sworn I saw above 150kW recently for a short period of time ?‍♂

Thanks

Some people have seen above 150kW but its not by much (like 153kW). Remember that there are power losses going into the battery so the charger can pump more than 150kW into the car but the battery will only be getting 150kW.

It's worth using the EA 350kW chargers. In the first few minutes when starting below 40% I've seen up to 170kW. I don't remember what the exact reason was but it was mentioned in one of @OutofSpecKyle 's videos. Something about pack voltage.

Yea, I was using a 350kW machine. I don't remember what it went up to but it was north of 150kW

I have a charging question, not related to this but didn't want to start a new thread. Does the on board charger regulate the the max power coming in from a Level 2 charger and tell the charger to hold that limit? What is the max limit for a Mach-E on level 2 charging? (48 Amps. kW?)

The onboard Level-2 charger picks the minimum of what the EVSE can provide or what the car can consume (max is 10.5kW).

Thus if your Level-2 EVSE can provide 20kW the car will only consume 10.5kW.

If your Level-2 EVSE can only provide 8kW the car will consume 8kW.

The max the car will take is indeed 48 amps, which should actually be 11.5 kw at 240V (240 * 48).

My window sticker says 10.5kW:

Ford Mustang Mach-E What is the max kWh? 1625616796238

The only place I've seen a max listed...my window sticker !?

Does that 48 amp charger actually mean a 48 amp circuit (e.g. max continuous current of 80% of 48 amps or 38 amps--10.5kW is around 43 amps)?? (Yeah I know this has been beaten to death elsewhere in the forums LOL)

I’ve seen about 165kW (not kWh) briefly.

The real reason why I asked the question is that I purchased a "TeslaTap 50 AMP-High Power adapter and was of great fear that I would encounter a Tesla Wall Charger Gen 3 at 80 AMPS and was hoping the car would limit the Tesla Charger and I would not need the 80 AMP version (another $60 or so)!!!

You'll be fine. The most the MME can ever take is 48 amp. That's a hardware limitation on the charger in the car.

Yeah I know, but I think it's a typo on the window sticker. The ford connected charger has to go on a 60A circuit, so it is indeed a "real" 48A draw.
