Thanks for your updates. I've been trying to get frunk functionally for ages, and now have a programmed functioning lightning key fob that works for everything but the frunk button. Been trying to find someone in the forums to help me figure out what exactly I need to say to my dealer including modules. I messaged Mach Lee just now. For my regular use case I really could use the functionality of frunk release from my fob.Ok, here’s the update
TL;DR frunk now opens from door pillar and Sync screen. No other modules updated because Lincoln advised that modules are only updated in response to a specific issue brought forth by customer and able to be duplicated at dealer. The R/F (right front?) axle shaft was replaced.
Wordy version: They called mid-morning to tell me they could drop off my car or I could pick it up. I decided to print out the list of modules to be updated and procedure to enable the remote frunk release and go over to pick up the car. The service manager I was working with is the Lincoln Service Manager, who was just helping the Ford guys out (it’s a Ford - Lincoln dealer). Anyway, I showed him the list of modules to be updated (many thanks to @Mach-Lee !) and the procedure to enable the soft button on the screen. He wasn’t familiar with what I was showing him and went to get the tech who worked on my car. In the meantime, I went over to my car and verified that the frunk releases worked via 7/8 and it did (although it tried to release the frunk multiple times, which was odd). The service writer said I could leave the car and they’d run the procedure and look into the updates. He was very curious as to how I came across the list of updates and said I shouldn’t be entering my VIN into unknown websites. I explained yo him that there is a community of Mustang Mach e enthusiasts and some have purchased licenses for FDRS and are able to look up updates for other users. He still sounded skeptical and I assured him it was FDRS from ford and that people got it from Rotunda (I forget which website people are actually buying FDRS licenses from but I wanted to use words he’s recognize). A few hours later he calls me back and tells me my car is ready and they can drop it off, or I can pick it up. He was also apologetic about not being able to do the other module updates. He explained that he checked with his Lincoln contact (remember, he’s Lincoln service) and they advised that updates are only to be performed in response to a specific customer complaint that can be duplicated and where the corrective procedure is to apply the update. I get it. It’s not the answer we WANT to hear, but I understand the answer and rationale. It would be nice if Ford would offer a “the works” for module updates, but oh well.
So, I can open my frunk from the pillar and from the touchscreen. I’d say I’m 99% of the way there. Not done though! Everyone will recall that I’ve always complained about the lack of a remote frunk release. Until I can open my frunk from FordPass, I won’t be totally happy ???? yes, I know about the fob workaround and will certainly explore it, but I don’t carry keys and don’t want to start, just to open the funk ?
