So I just had Suntek Evolve nano-ceramic window tint applied on my Mach-E last week, and MAN does it have an ugly blue/purple hue to it from the inside... This film was advertised by SunTek and a few other shops in my area as being a great representation as to what black/dark charcoal film should look like. Even on the day I picked up the Mach-E from the shop, the windshield was showing the blue/purple hue on the outside, albeit it was raining...

I can hardly see the hue in full shade or on a cloudy day, but as soon as you're in the sun, everything you look at through any glass panel has a blue/purple hue.

So, my question to all owners with ceramic tint, have you experienced anything like this with your tint of choice? I've yet to determine if this is because:
  • The film I selected does indeed use materials that look blue/purple in some light
  • The installer duped me and installed something else
  • The Mach-E's laminated and tempered glass has some sort of transparent layer that produces this color when tint is applied.

Probably going with Xpel brand ceramic tint. Anyone have good or bad reviews on Xpel tinting?

I had 50% Geoshield Apex Super Ceramic installed about 2 weeks ago on all the side windows and the hatch. It’s really fantastic. A nice light tint with excellent heat rejection. The color is an even light charcoal, no blue/purple hues at all.

It’s great. I have XR Plus 70 on windshield and 20 on other windows. I had 3M Crystalline on last vehicle, and it had a blue tint like OPs. XR Plus 70 is less blue than 3M 70.

But, I think that a blue tint on the clearer ceramics is pretty standard. Also, theres definitely a visible purple/blue hue from outside on other cars I’ve had with it, not just MME. What was the % on windshield?

I just want to mention I saw. Blue on the wise shield from the outside due to the angles but not on the side glass.
However when inside the vehicle, I see the blue hue through every piece of tinted glass, when the vehicle is in direct sunlight.

Windshield 50%
Pano 70%
Front Windows 35%
All Rear Windows 70%

From every experience I read about, tinting of the pano roof is totally unnecessary no matter where you live. Same for the windshield which is 70% IRR.

Are you wearing polarized sunglasses? That can make tint look funny.

I'd have to disagree with you on both the windshield AND pano roof, when specifically discussing high-performance ceramic tint. Most entry and mid-grade ceramic tint will block about 40-60% SIRR, where high performance films are 85%+. Tints with the 40-60% rejection range may not exhibit but an additional 2-5% on top of the glass' native IRR characteristics.

I did some performance testing with my old Ford Edge ST that has a nearly identical windshield and panoramic size, and glass composition. Using a high-performance window film dramatically reduced the amount of heat felt on your skin. I even tested a before and after using a Heat Sheet and the results showed the high-performing ceramic/nano-ceramic window films can easily produce additional IRR.

Even tinting the panoramic roof on the Mach-E proved itself over the weekend. I was able to feel minimal heat on my head, neck and shoulders. After installing SunTek Evolve, I no longer experience that feeling.

Certainly it helps. But it’s more a question of whether or not it’s “necessary.”

It’s been in the 90s in Florida and even in direct sunlight, I don’t feel heat coming through the roof.

My DMG pano roof Mach E stays much cooler than my last car:
white Chevy SS sedan with ceramic tint.

The factory tint on the roof and the IRR windshield are awesome. Only thing I’m thinking of doing is tinting the front windows to match.

When I had my windshield replaced (rock chip) they took it out and laid it upside down. The amount of heat reflecting off of it in direct sun felt like I was an ant under a magnifying glass. It’s unbearable! That IRR works!

I had the cheap tint applied, I do not know the brand......sorry.

The side windows match the factory tint very well. I had a sin visor applied to the windshield and from inside it is black. From the outside it has a purple tint to it. The tint guy commented on and didn't know why. I think it has to due with the IR coating in the windshield itself causing the effect ?‍♂

You are correct on the necessary portion. While it's not necessary for most, I do have a substantial sensitivity to light and bright reflections, which is why I've always had tinted passenger glass and windshields.

And I will agree the existing glass does a great job by itself, the enhanced IRR characteristics of a nano-ceramic are of great benefit.

But we digress, as I really am looking for feedback on the inside looking out viewpoint of the film's composition that changes visual clarity - in this case, leaving everything with a blue/purple hue which is ultimately distracting.

I have 80% Llumar ceramic tint on the windshield. I only get purplish artifacts when wearing polarized sunglasses (expected) but they are minor (to me). The big pluses are much less heat buildup when parked in the sun and there is so little glare I now rarely need to use sunglasses!

My last car i had solar guard ultra performance for a few months. it had this weird hazy in sunlight at some angles. got really annoying to me. Switched out to 3m Crystalline and coudlnt' be happier. My MME currently has crystalline all around. I recommend it.

Absolutely!! I put Ceramic tint on mine for the first time. I am in Costa Mesa where it is always miserably hot and this tint actually keeps the temps down in the truck.
Hopefully you used Dave and the crew at Signature Glass Tinting!
