Optional Product Improvement Program 21G01 - BlueCruise Programming

Along with the email that went out to stuck 1.7.1 users to tell them the dealer can install the BC updates, 21G01 has dropped to detail the requirements and process for this update.

REASON FOR THIS COMMUNICATION To inform you that Ford Motor Company is notifying vehicle owners of an optional product improvement program on the affected vehicles. This communication will help you answer customer questions. Customers of early-launch 2021 F-150 or 2021 Mustang Mach-E with Ford Co-Pilot360™ Active 2.0 Prep Package (includes BlueCruise Prep Kit 43C/50G) will receive: • Ford Power-Up software updates delivered over-the-air (OTA) that include the BlueCruise hands-free driver assist feature, began deployment to customer vehicles in the first quarter of 2022. Software updates delivered OTA could take several weeks before all software is delivered, and the feature is fully functional. The updates also will include some new features while accelerating the pace of future features and enhancements. • Or, the option of complimentary dealer installation of the BlueCruise hands-free driver assist feature software (Dealer software installation takes 2 to 8 hours). • One (1) year of complimentary BlueCruise service once the hands-free driver assist feature is activated and functioning

One interesting note in this:

NOTE: An interactive Blue Zone map is also in development for the US and is expected to be available to dealers by May 2022

So they’re saying I can go to my dealer and request BlueCruise for my job 1 non-EA car?

Note "there is no mileage limit for this program".

Also note interactive BlueCruise map coming in May.

I will be contacting my dealer for this update in April if it doesn't come OTA next week.

Wife’s car is going in for glass work in a couple weeks. I’ll have them install BlueCruise then.

Thats what it looks like to me, its actually open to all job 1 cars starting today. Just the EA folks are getting an email letting them know now.

Owner letters are expected to be mailed the week of April 11, 2022.

Nice. Thankfully my dealer’s main EV tech and I have come a long way. He’s quite good now. But I’ll keep this handy juuuust in case.

I actually like this document because it gives more details on what to expect with the USB updates. The FDRS prompts don't do a good job explaining what prompts will appear on the screen with those.

And here I was thinking I was all special having the dealer push the update today. I only beat the masses by about 24 hours.

I guess now Ford can say that they made their "end of Q1" deadline for BlueCruise, even if it isn't OTA.

This is awesome! My only worry is how complex this update is. When I brought my car in to have 21P22 done they did 5 of the 12 modules and then tried to get out of doing anything else. I don’t think they ever read the instructions. I could see them laughing me out of the service department with this list.

I agree, I looked at the procedure and it does seem complex with a large potential for problems if the dealer doesn't follow the instructions exactly.

I am tempted to wait for the OTA, I've had enough problems in the past with getting things installed at the dealer (Due to 1.7.1 lock issues), it makes me worried about going through that again.
