I haven't heard any negative comments (yet). The only negatives I encountered were from some Tesla drivers either challenging for a drag race, or suddenly jumping in front of my car, or blocking a lane and not letting me pass them. But I think it's the same phenomenon caused by cognitive dissonance.
I've had one comment of "not a mustang" from a family friend's daughter but she sure was interested in looking all around and inside the car and asking questions hehe. That was the only response that wasn't super positive. I either get completely ignored, asked questions about it, given the thumbs up, or challenged to races. It was fun to leave some folks in the dust off the line a couple of times....surprised them quite a bit.

And how much do you want to bet that the ev 911 wonā€™t be a SUV? Same goes for the Corvetteā€¦ wanna bet that wonā€™t be a SUV?
I'll take that bet. There is no reason for Porshe to turn the 911 into an SUV. They already have performance SUV's that they can make an E version of. They also already have the Taycan EV sports car. Chevrolet will never turn the Corvette model into an SUV, no way.

This is what did it for me. I've owned 5 ICE Mustangs and most of them spent a great deal of time on road courses accumulating hardware against Porsches, Vettes and BMWs. Granted most were modified with aftermarket suspension components, roll bars, race seats and harnesses and as much as 725 hp/625 rwtq. After sitting on my reservation since November 2019, I was getting cold feet. I decided before I canceled my reservation I would test drive one. I drove a Premium and was blown away by the power/tq, build quality, aesthetics and the interior @praxiscat described as akin to a BMW or Audi. The 0-60 times (practical safe use on public roads) blow away all my other ICE Mustangs because you can actually put the power to the ground due to the AWD and weight. The low COG from the battery makes handling amazing for a 5,500 lb. beast. Being that impressed with the Premium, I can't imagine how much more I will be with the GTPE. The Magneride on the GT350 and Bullitt is awesome, and I look forward to having it on my new "grocery getter" ?
Yeah, I hear you. But, being a prior owner of many modded Mustangs myself, I must say - the Mach E in 4X guise is quick for sure, really good passing times too. However, any Mustang owner that has seat time in modded Mustangs (especially S197 and S550 platforms) and can drive worth a flip has extracted much quicker 0-60 times than 4.8-5.0. But yes, the GT/PE will be another animal altogether. Still, I doubt it will change my mind from being set on picking up a low miles GT350 in the next year or so. That 8250rpm redline and sound are otherworldly.

Yes for sure, but the 0-60 I was referring to was the 3.5 seconds in the GTPE. The 8250 redline in the Voodoo was sweet for sure, but the 7500+ in the Boss 302 with headers shot the adrenaline through the roof when blasting through the kink into Canada Corner at RA. It would have been fun if Ford gave us a ticket to Utah Motorsports Park like they did with those two Mustangs to experience what it could do on the track.

That thing is BEAUTIFUL!
Someday I'll hit the lottery... to have the Time , $ , Space to make something this awesome!
I have far less in this than my Mach E GT is going to cost me, and that includes the show car quality paint and body work. I built this with all new parts, nothing from a donor car.

I'm waiting for my Mach E GTPE to arrive in a little over a month. I like going to car meets and cruises so I think it will be fun to listen to some of this haters tell me it's not a mustang. Then I can tell them I also own a 2015 supercharged GT that makes 750hp and what I like about each of them and how they compare. I know AWD is going to be nice and it will launch a lot harder and faster then my GT.

It's mine, it's pretty bad ass, and I don't give a rat's rump what anyone thinks of it. Unless of course they'd like to make the payments.?

You may notice my garage is full of Corvette things. There was a "slightly" similar thing in Corvette world when the C7 series did not have round taillights! (Gasp) That series went on to be the best selling...ever.?ā€ā™‚

You are so right about the Corvette die-hards. They also had a conniption fit about the C8 becoming mid-engined. The C7 is what got me interested in Corvettes and I think it was the model that started getting the younger crowd like myself more interested in it.

I guess I've never had loyalty to a vehicle where I pushed against any changes or cared about the name. As soon as I heard about the Mach E I was captivated and didn't care what they named it. I have to admit the pony emblems look awesome though ;).

I posted about this a while back but I took my Mach-E to a car show in So. Cal with my cousin who has a Bullitt green 68 GT. We parked them side by side and the reactions were interesting. From that small sample, it seemed to me those under 35-40 were more positive than those older than 40. Before you rush to bash this comment, I am not under 40. Having grown up in Detroit, I fully understand the GM vs Ford mentality. Yes, this is the first Ford I have ever purchased.

My question to the #notamustang group is "Have you driven one yet?"

I personally believe there are two issues at play here. I think the name ā€œMustangā€ is so deeply assocaited with pony cars as a part of Americana, that the branding is a bit confusing. So I think thereā€™s a group of folks who believe that an SUV, regardless of propulsion, isnā€™t a mustang. Now of course it is because thatā€™s what Ford named it and its their brand. I personally donā€™t mind but understand a bit of the confusion and angst. Of course peopleā€˜s reactions manifest in different ways and if they donā€˜t like it just be polite and donā€™t comment. I do also understand that Ford is trying to transition a new generation and type of buyer to love the Mustang brand as much as itā€™s been loved for more than the last century. Certainly there will be no pony coupe ICE car at some point. Maybe theyā€™ll even electrify a version of a pony coupe. Maybe they donā€™t believe in 5-10 years that sports car will even be popular with buyers.

I get the same thing wrt my Tycan. Iā€™ve been told it looks cool but itā€™s not a Porsche. I assure you if you drive it youā€™d agree itā€™s a Porsche.

I believe separately that there are people who donā€™t get, donā€™t like or are threatened by EVs. However, regardless of the reasons stated they are just anti-EV. And, yes, some of it gets a bit politicized. I myself am very moderate politically but LOVE EVs. I donā€™t understand why people get vigorously anti-EV. It will quite some time till ICE is gone but I also understand that ICE will not get investment for further innovation. I really enjoy the driving dynamics of the BEV cars. I like charging at home rather hopping to gas stations. I like planning my trips and breaks. And, I really just love the tech. Yeah, and if it turns out itā€™s better for the planet then thatā€™s good too.

Not everyone buys an EV because theyā€™re some type of ā€œtree hugger.ā€ Well, thatā€™s what Iā€™ve been called and if I am so what. I personally buy EVā€™s because they are far more interesting to own, a thrill drive and just plain cool.

A MME may be the next to join my stable of BEVs (yes pun intended) but I may possibly wait for the GT version.

cheers.
Very well put, couldn't agree more!

You sure you want to take that bet? Pretty sure people said that about Ferrari and Lamborghini (even the companies themselves said it) and now we have SUVs from them. Even Bentley jumped on the SUV train. Like it or not, SUVs/crossovers sell big and companies need to adapt. The Cayenne and Macan are the best selling Porsches and I'm sure you remember the uproar about diluting the Porsche brand with SUVs.
