why only gentle turns? what was the point of high-res mapping 120K+ miles of freeway if it can't negotiate curves that other brands can utilizing the same in-built sensors?
At least one other highly intelligent poster on this board has been asking the same question.

This is precisely one of the reasons why I declined my original delivery back in May. Things haven't improved much since. I can understand Tesla AP is far superior bc of their vision processing smarts, but Bluecruise ought to perform at least slightly better than other sensor-only based cars.

Add to that other dumb decisions legacy car companies make when competing with Tesla. Why not install as many cameras (they're cheap, right) around the car as Tesla does? Useful for multiple purposes including sentry cam, and for auto-piloting once their vision processing improves. Building in higher efficiency in assembly & manufacturing will take a while (that's mainly big corporate bureaucracy & inertia at play), but omitting readily-available, inexpensive features that have served Tesla well is inexcusable, even for a first-year model car.

Update to my last post: A (corporate- not call center)supervisor called me back and told me a few things.

1. Joining the Early Access Program is not a guarantee of getting early access to Blue Cruise

2. All Public information says Q3 release date however he had a meeting yesterday and its looking like Blue Cruise wont be released OTA until Q4.

3. Many of the vehicles with Blue Cruise in the EAP currently are commercial vehicles and police cars.

Like the 360 camera and cross traffic alert the tesla doesn't have?

I would think Teslas have all the required hardware (cameras and ultrasonic sensors) to enable both features at the factory or over OTA. Ford have a winner on their hands with the Mach-E, if only they can be more proactive with simple HW & SW updates.

I just talked to the Ford Marketing Team and they seemed just as surprised as I am that new cars are coming with BlueCruise activated while people who have been waiting for months and are even in Early Access Program are not getting it. She couldnt offer any help besides "BlueCruise is set to be released Q3"
Q3 ends in 22 days.

So, if I understand you right, your decision to purchase a car is based upon technology? If that's the case then Tesla should be your choice. I buy based upon the overall product and that's why I chose the Mach E.

There are 5 Teslas on my 10-house cul-de-sac and I can tell you with absolute certainty that 4 of those owners aren't very happy. There are a number of issues. One of them has the liquid draining out of the large display. It's past warranty and will cost over $5,000 to get fixed. One has loud wind noise when freeway driving. One has some pretty bad fit where fender meets the hatch. Not to say the Mach E is perfect but it's built like it came from a 100 year old car company that knows how to make cars.

But, you're right, the Tesla owners have some pretty cool technology.

Ford has a history of setting dates and then missing them. Some years back, they were going to release an add-on remote start kit to replace Ford Remote Access, i.e. FordPass for vehicles sold without the modem. Kept moving it out, then shipped it, then pulled it from market. Vehicles equipped with Remote Access then lost that capability at the end of 2020 due to the "impending" demise of 3G, with no Ford replacement.

I will believe that BlueCruise will roll out by 9/30 when it is working on my Mach-E.

With almost 39 years of software development behind me, I'm going to reword this. "Ford MARKETING has a history of setting dates that makes ENGINEERING say "What is wrong with you people? Do you all share 1 brain cell amongst the entire team? In the future, please come talk to us first."." I've lived through many such moments, even had our VP of sales once turn red with shock when I explained why the device we were designing was round. Said, to a room full of engineers/IT folks, "If it's round, it'll roll off your desk and get lost. Then you need to buy a new one." They all laughed, he about exploded. My best day ever with sales!!!!!

No, all I'm saying is Ford (and other EV car manufacturers) are not taking advantage of low-hanging fruit, technology-wise, that Tesla-owners have been benefitting from for years. Legacy issues and relative lack of competency in delivering complex technology & SW will take a while to overcome (understandbly so), but there is simply no excuse for excluding certain features that would have made the Mach-E more competitive with Tesla out of the gate.

Just got an email teasing that "Ford BlueCruise is almost here". Says 'Fall' in body, but still Q3 in footnote.

Yes. I got the email today. It just hints that it will be available soon. No way to purchase it yet.

I think there is some confusion ... your comparison with Tesla (and "other brands") isn't Apples to Apples.

I've been using the adaptive cruise/lane centering/lane keeping on my Mach-E since March. It handles all freeway curves which have unambiguous lane lines on both sides -- including sharp connector curves between two freeways.

What's being discussed here is *hands free* driving! From the videos I've watched, hands free disengages very conservatively, which is appropriate. Meaning one must drive with hands having at least light pressure on the steering wheel (as is required by Tesla, although there are drivers who use various maneuvers to defeat the steering wheel pressure system which is supposed to ensure that drivers are engaged).

Point is, the Mach-E negotiates road curves just fine, when in "Tesla-driving" mode, meaning when hands are engaged with steering wheel. In situations where one is driving in true hands free mode, the system is conservative and requires the driver to put hands back on the wheel.
