I was in a minor car accident (just a fender bender, everyone is OK, both cars are drivable) that has made my search for a new car much more urgent. I no longer want to wait the months it will take for my ordered Mach-E to arrive. So I've been calling and emailing dealerships to see if they have any abandoned customer orders or dealer allotments for sale. I've run into so many issues that as of today, for my own sanity, I've decided to stop looking entirely. I'm not going to cancel my order. I want a Mach-E so much. But I can't deal with the poor customer service, incompetence, and downright unethical behavior I'm encountering at Ford dealerships over and over. I'm usually a pretty calm and chill person but this has broken me. I havent decided what I'm going to do. There's still the GT that is allegedly arriving in October that they're only asking $2000 above msrp for. The original person dropped out. But it is out of state and doesn't have everything I want.

What type of unethical behavior?

It's a rare car right now that's in high demand. Cars on the lots are going to have ADM and ordered cars are all delayed due to reasons outside of Ford's control. I'm not sure what kind of experiences you have had, but the aforementioned ones are just the cost of doing business at the moment.

I definately understand. I went to Toyota to get a Rav 4 Prime a year or so back and gave up on them. I got the run around with multiple dealers and they all wanting $10K to $15K over MSRP. They had the cars and people were willing to pay that much mark-up. Most treated me as if I should be honored to be able to buy their SUV. Wrong. I was willing to buy at MSRP but giving $10K of my money for absolutely nothing is not something I cannot do.

If I were in your situation and needed a car, I would probably either pay the ADM to get the MME or go to another car manufacturer. With all sincerety, I wish you the best of luck.

I'm with the OP on this. Sure, the chip shortage is out of Ford's control, but why do some people get their cars in 5 months, other like me are waiting 8+ months and others I have seen on this forum are waiting over a year? Why is it that Ford won't respond to my emails/tweets/DM/snail mails/phone calls asking questions about my car?

While I really like the dealer that my car is ordered from and I have found some really great dealers, some of the other deals do seem a bit "shaky".

I love how you admit you don't know what of unethical behavior I've encountered but then go on to state it's "just the cost of doing business" right now.

I'd already said I've stopped trying to do business right now anyway.

I think you misunderstood my reply, which can happen when you quote only part of the sentence I wrote. The full quote was " the aforementioned ones are just the cost of doing business at the moment", with the aforementioned being ADM and ordering delays. I was asking what unethical behaviors, I did not say unethical behaviors are the cost of doing business.

Everyone has a different situation if I needed a car I'd look at lots and what incentives, surprising Ford does have some decent F150 incentives now and there are trucks on lots, not a lot but some.

One thing to consider is that you can pay to have a vehicle shipped privately cross country for several hundred dollars. So if you are OK purchasing sight unseen and find one that matches up with what you want but have no appetite for a cross country road trip, it is a possible solution to your dilemma.

Get something else in the meantime and sell it when your Mach-E arrives. I’m doing that and I know a few others too who are.

If you want to skip the line, expect to pay a slight premium. $2K is actually a decent (small) markup. Nobody is forcing you to buy the Mach-E

If you are looking for a select, and don't mind buying out of state Tasca in RI has plenty of them on the lot. I was able to get one for about 3k under MSRP and with fed and state credit/rebates...it will be in the mid-30's after all is said and done. Ford Option financing allows some flexibility. I'm guessing if you look regionally you may find some on lots. Trick is to find a dealer without crazy markup. I had to go to the next state over to avoid that.

Thanjs for the info! I'm in Colorado. I've been looking at dealers within 500 miles of me. RI would be a bit of a trip. Shipping is an option.

I don't have a problem with paying $2k over msrp for a GT. I've seen $11k over msrp for a base select. The main issues with the one I mentioned are it doesn't have the prep package for blue cruise and it's on chip hold and it's out of state.

I didn't even mention paying over msrp as one of my frustrations so I'm not sure why people are focusing on that? I want to give these dealers my money. I just want to be treated professionally and honestly in the process by people who, if they don't know what they're talking about, are willing to admit it.[/QUOTE]

That is a shame.
We had purchased four new Toyotas before buying our EVs. That included two new Prius'. Back then Toyota did not allow ADMs and there was no hassle at all. One of the many reasons we purchased the Toyotas. My 1ton light truck (kept it 20 years) was even purchased at a discount ($1,500) and with both of the Prius' they installed clear bras (PPF) at no cost to me. And they did a good job.
Too bad your experience was so drastically different.
Though, along with their anti-EV stance, it is an interesting evolution for Toyota.

Well this behavior is not limited to Ford dealerships unfortunately.

I understand where you're coming from as I was also looking a couple of months ago, but I was looking across the board - Mercedes, BMZ, Audi, Volvo and Ford. They all sucked and they all marked it up. Some were upfront and told me "oh, by the way, it has an ADM of $5k" others, I'd get there and see the crappy little makeshift note saying its marked up. This was ACROSS THE BOARD.

I sympathize with you, but it is getting annoying as heck with everyone going after just the manufacturer they're trying to buy from, not just here against Ford. This is the climate we're in. Everyone is going nuts on where there car is. I was actually trying to purchase an S class when I was turning in my E class since the 2021s look super cool on the inside. I go to the dealer in July and he's telling me they haven't gotten a single 2021 S class, all the people who ordered them are going nuts and they don't even know how to respond. He said they were expecting them anytime now but then they're also supposed to get 2022s at the end of this year and it is just a mess. This is Mercedes, a luxury brand, and they can't even make heads or tails of it.
