I used FDRS and USB and got it successfully updated. I used a basic cheapo USB 3 Flash drive. Big tip that I've used for any Sync update is to plug in the USB and then from command prompt use diskpart and clean the USB drive. There's lots of tutorials out there on the interwebs to walk through that process, but it always works for me. Regardless, it's updated and seems to work well.

Anyone whose updated the APIM via FDRS, does it require the pumps to be turned on anytime during the process? Since this update is via USB, the process should be less power hungry, correct?
So is there a need for an external power source for 12V, like it does for all the other module updates?

No, all FDRS does is check the APIM for the version, then it downloads the software onto your computer. Once that's finished and copied to the USB drive, you can actually "start" the vehicle and insert the USB drive for installation.

I did NOT have my external supply connected for the APIM as the “engine” needs to be on according to FDRS ?

Apologies if this has already been answered, but is the software downloaded specific to your VIN or have some type of hash-esque mechanism tha makes it only useable for your car?

im also assuming that in the case it is open to any car, the distribution of the software is very much frowned upon and likely illegal. ?

There's a cert file on the root that locks it to the VIN, so highly unlikely that it'll work across vehicles.

One of the prerequisites is updating GWM if an update is available. I suspect the APIM update won’t start without it, but it is something to keep in mind if you are trying to find a work around.

There were also several new updates available for me yesterday, even after completely updating all available modules this past Friday. Not necessary for APIM (I believe), but I’m just mentioning them in case folks want to figure out their battery situation before hand.

Bug or "feature"? I'm not sure. You tell me. But you can in fact draw on top of the calculator... Not sure why you'd want to though

Since you can save notes, can you save a note with the calculator on it?

You could use it for expense reporting or some other calculation that you may want to store (of course you could always just snap a photo with your phone though soo...).

All you lucky people and my poor car is sitting at Ford with no front end. It has nobody to keep it company in the cold shop this weekend. My empty driveway is missing it.
