How did you get it home?

We are purchasing from out of state but I'm not looking forward to the 1300 mile trip back home in cooler weather. Already having range anxiety and "what if this breaks..." crossing my mind.

When I bought mine, it was a 500 mile round trip to the dealer. I'm in Tulsa, and found the FE I bought in Salina Kansas. The day I picked it up, Feb 12th. It was 1°F outside. It wasn't a fun trip home. Being so cold, the fastest I saw the car charge was 36kw. This was also when people were having issues with Electrify America. So I don't know how much was due to the cold, and how much of it was charging network issues.

The day I picked up my car, after resetting the driving history, with the weather that cold, the GoM showed 119 mile range at 98% Soc. Slow charging, combined with reduced range, it took almost 6 hours to go the 250 miles home.

Other than all that, It was a great drive. Just had a lot of extra time sitting in snowy parking lots charging.

I bought mine in Tampa and drove it home to Fort Worth. It was a 1300 mile trip and not bad at all. Electrify America is what we used for the entire trip home. No issues. Enjoy your trip!

Some of the best posts on this board came from the people who are in your same boat and who drove it home. I think most of the early adopter issues with charging stations have gone by the wayside. I think if you plan your trip and some alternative stops along the way with ABRP before you head out, and you set your Ford Navigation system to look for DC Fast Chargers only, you should be fine and you might have a fantastic trip home.

I purchased mine from a dealer in my former Pennsylvania home town. I'm now living in California and am still debating on whether to drive it or ship it when it arrives next month. We're flying to the east coast for a wedding right after it arrives, so I'll be able to get to the dealer and drive it for a couple of days before we head back to CA. At this point, I'm leaning toward having it shipped.

I'm in the same boat, if all goes well I'll be purchasing my Mach E from a dealer ~1000 miles away in the next couple weeks.

I'm leaning towards having it shipped to me even though there's a reasonable number of Electrify America chargers on the way. Don't want to drive for 2 days and too scared of being stranded in the middle of no where if the car breaks down somehow.

I put 300+ miles to get my GT home, I was honestly pretty impressed by Electrify America's system. I think I was getting about 110kw/h and went from 46-80% in 20 minutes (and since I was still geeking out over the car features, didn't even feel that long). However, the Leaf which parked next to me on the only plug it could use had a bad card reader and even with their phone support couldn't get the thing to work. Fortunately the MME plug is more common.

Definitely different than a gas trip, research the route a little, look for EA or other ones with multiple plugs available (and double check the charging speed). I didn't have any charging gaps of more than 50 miles so I felt pretty confident that if I ended up with a dud, there was an alternate in range.

My Question is for anyone who has bought out of the state they have the car registered in. Have you since claimed your $7500 tax credit. I assume since it is federal there should be no issues. I am in NY, my state has an additional Clean Car Rebate but if I do not buy in NY I am not eligible for it.
I am looking for a Premium model while mine is on order due in March 2022.

Feds do not care which state it's purchased in. However, you must be the first titled name on the vehicle to claim the credit.

So if it was used or previously titled to a dealer, you cannot claim any credit.

Did you apply for rebate yet on your taxes, since you bought out of state ?

I just completed a 3900 mile cross country in my AWD Premium standard range. I purchased in Maine where fast chargers are rare. There is absolutely no hassle or anxiety along the interstates where EA has a network. My 30ish son and I seldom spent more than 20-25 minutes at a fast charger. It did feel, however, very much like a tour of Walmart parking lots. We tried to plan each overnight at a hotel with with L2 charger which was usually free. The only exciting part was going off the EA network through southern Minnesota and South Dakota along I-90, and Wyoming. Along those areas we took non-highway routes and slow speeds. Crossing South Dakota at 45 mph might not be everyone's delight but we both actually enjoyed it. We pushed one leg to 235 miles with 30+ still left on the guess-o-meter. One overnight in central South Dakota was spent charging at a campground across from the hotel. In Casper Wyoming it was six hours at a Nissan dealer's L2 in order to make to Jackson. From there it was over the Tetons and back on the EA network to the coast. I'll put it on a ship in a couple of weeks to my home in Honolulu, where MMEs are as rare as fast chargers in Dakota.

I purchased in Florida and I'm in California. I used a transport agency to transport the vehicle and it arrived 5 days later. It cost me $750.

It was actually very easy so here's the steps I took:
  • Find a company that is insured and reputable. Most of the companies online are just brokers. That's fine! I went with Sherpa, which is a broker. They will do all of the arrangement for you so that you really don't have to do anything. They even pay for a car wash when the car is delivered.
  • Once you find the transport you give them the vehicle information and your information. They might require a small deposit over the phone. The rest is paid upon delivery
  • Call the dealer and let them know it's being picked up, they are used to trucks picking up and delivering
  • They pick it up and deliver it to your house.
It's really that easy. If anyone has any other specific questions regarding how I did it just @ me so I get an email and I'll be more than happy to reply.

Most states require that you purchase IN STATE to get the state rebate. I had previously owned an EV and in California you can only get the state rebate 1 time in your life, so I didn't care where I purchased the vehicle. The Fed rebate I will still claim as it doesn't have a 1 time per life limit.

That is quite a journey! It sounds like a really good trip.
