Do you realize that all the cars you’re comparing it to are some of the best performance vehicles in their class?

And the GTPE, at least on paper, holds its own.

And it doesn’t beat a 2005 Mustang GT, it destroys it.

Based on the stats, it’s hard to deny it’s a true performance vehicle.

Honestly the skidpad and braking numbers far surpassed my expectations. Especially for a 5000 lb station wagon.
By comparing a 2005 GT you may as well be comparing the mach-e to a model-t, the 2005 with its wheel hopping live rear axle and its abysmal asthmatic engine it was outdated even by 1990's standard let all alone 2005

For apples to apples you are going to really need to be comparing to one of todays mustang GT that as also had a optional 'performance package upgrade' so you need to be comparing to a GT with a pp2 package, all European mustangs had pp1 a standard that should already tell you how good a base GT was or rather wasn't in 2015 and in that regard

2018 GT manual pp2

0-60 4.3
60-0 94 ft
1.06 g lateral

The point is once performance was used in the marketing and naming then there are going to be expectations and on that front those expectations for some people will have easily been reached so all power to them while for others they will have fallen short so they are free to complain about it, however none of that will make a blind bit of difference to your own enjoyment of it :).

For me Ford could fix the power limitations via an OTA but I still wouldn't class it as a performance vehicle as the steering is simply not good enough by Ford performances own standards but as I had different requirements for the GTPE I was ok with making the purchase, had performance been high up on my list of requirements in current form I would have simply walked on by.

Interesting reading the rationalizations being thrown about now that many have taken delivery and are happy with the “daily” performance of the GT/PE. Of course it’s fine in the daily use case, what car isn’t in 2021, or even 2000 for that matter. It’s a great handler, stopper, looker, and it doesn’t require petrol, oh my. 0-60 in 3.5-3.8 is very quick. 0-100 in 12.5 is 4X-ville my friends, as are 101-104mph trap speeds. Even a still low 105-108mph might have avoided this whole issue and left only the diehards on the periphery complaining.

But, it is a GT or a GTPE, and that means something in the Mustang universe, like it or not. It means that only getting 5 seconds of full power is unacceptable. It means 1/4 mile trap speeds that match or barely eek out a win vs. a 4X are unacceptable. That’s it. No other Mustang GT has failed to put multiple car lengths on it’s lower-powered stable mates, none. There is no precedent where same Gen GT Mustangs are slower than their 4 or 6 cylinder Counterparts. And don’t even say SVO, because wrong, try again. Sure, the MME GT is not a Mustang coupe, but it’s named like one, and names mean things.

I read that the Mach-e is limited to 115 mph top speed. I would not be surprised to find out the torque of the motors are beginning to decline at that end of the curve. This would explain the trap speed issue.
Thats only for Non-GT models. GT's have a max of 124mph I believe.

Pretty fair video - I honestly don't think the 5 second thing has to be set in stone forever... time will tell there.

"unacceptable" is a matter of opinion regardless of how firm you feel about those opinions.

Many of us who have taken our GT/GTPEs would certainly not turn down a longer duration boost, but find the current implementation of power to be acceptable.

You've been quite vocal on this...do you have a GT on order? What's your investment in this to be making claims on what's acceptable or not? Are you and Frankie related? (where is that guy anyways?)

So the GTPE brakes better, rides better, handles better, built better, looks better and has more range.

The MYP can accelerate for more than 5 seconds so it wins the comparison??

Hmm… I do want more than 5 seconds but still.

Was going to post the exact comment…was actually surprised this came from Edmunds. Here’s their score sheet:

Ride Quality: 5 pts
Braking: 5 pts
Handing: 5 pts
Aesthetics: 5 pts
Range: 5 pts
¼ Mile Rip: 75 pts

Mike drop, Tesla wins.

Funny. Frankie actually blocked me way back during the the first tour of the 2.0T assault. Believe it or not.

My investment is I’ve been drag or road racing Mustangs in various gens since 1995 and I want to want to buy a GT/PE to replace our brand new 4X. Does that allow for me to state my opinion? Plus, I’m currently shopping GT350s to either replace or add to my SS Sedan. So yeah, I guess I can have MME GT opinions now that I think about it. ??‍♂

While I do know that this is clearly a controversy...and some people will agree and others radically disagree...

I do understand what you are saying...but the GT and GT PE are quicker in both 1/4 mile times and 0-60 than virtually all Mustangs that were ever built from the factory. Yes there are some modern ultra performance models (new GT350/500 and Mach 1) models that are quicker and yes, most have a faster top speed than the MME GT. This is a Grand Touring vehicle, not a race car.

I do understand the struggles for those who have a problem calling the Mach E a "Mustang", however, please note:

I think Ford was in a difficult position, but with a car of this much performance I am thankful that they gave it a Mustang name. I think it would have been a disaster if this car became an "Edge EV GT" or "Explorer EV GT" that had the exact same performance that the current MME GT's have that could stomp over all but the ultra top-of the line Mustangs. I suspect that Mustang owners would be far more outraged that Ford would create a new performance platform SUV that would give the best of the Mustangs a run for the money. Ultimately I think it would have threatened the future of the Mustang if the Mustang name was NOT used.

There have been Millions and millions of Mustangs built and have historically many have been been great-and many are terrible. The 170 cu in 6 cylinder in the 64 1/2 was certainly no performance car. The hundreds of thousands of Mustang II's that were built were less than optimal including the "Cobra" with a smog choked V8. Some of the Fox body cars were not great...yet the 1993 Cobra was the first one that I drove in 1993 that gave me hope that the Pony would shine again. They got the sound right and reminded me of a 1969/70 Boss 302 but with better performance.

Ford even sullied the Mach 1 name in 1970 with many of them coming with a weak 2 barrel 351 Cleveland.

My point is there is a long history of the Mustang. Some were exceptional...others less so.

This is the first generation of Electric Mustangs. It will only get better from here.

In the meantime this GT PE will be an exceptionally fun to drive and practical daily driver. As I have said before...If I wanted a track car, I would not get any SUV. I would much rather than a 1965 GT350 R or race prepared 1969/70 Boss 302 or Modern Boss 302, GT350/500....

For me the Grand Touring MME GT PE is the perfect balance for what I will do almost every day of the year with this car.

I’m a smart guy and understand the nuances. I personally think Ford made a really smart move by turning Mustang into a brand.

But answer just this one question. How can a GT trap slower or equal to a 4X with 130/200 less hp/tq and it be ok?

We've definitely heard your opinion, and you're welcome to it. However, as I read your post above, your claims of being "unacceptable" certainly sound like you're speaking to it as an authority on the subject while those of us with our cars are simply "rationalizing". Your opinion is not to be held in higher regard than anyone else's. That's a fact.

Ah this hurts... all the talk of performance again of the GT PE. Mine is tucked away in the garage, not to be driven again until March or April. Maybe an OTA update will happen by then. Keeping this baby in mint condition and low miles.

For as long as I have been following drag racing (as well as when I started drag racing some 40 years ago)...It has always been quicker time to cross the line wins. Trap speeds are for bragging rights...but it is who is quicker is what matters on a drag strip to me, not who is faster.

Would I like Ford to improve trap speed - sure. Is it a priority for me...not at all. Would I like to see more than 5 seconds of burst power, sure...it it a priority for me...no.

I am buying a street car that is faster and is more fun to drive than most and in my and my wife opinion too-it blows the Model Y away for being a fun to drive machine and is a better fit for us in about every category as well for what we want in a car that we use daily (not on a track).

This car will be a blast to drive when I can have fun driving it. Unfortunately I spent a large portion of my time stuck in traffic too. There are other improvements that I would like to see long before I solve problems that I just don't have as it is not likely I would race this car on a track-possibly ever.

If I had the money and really wanted a true high-performance street-able drag car where I care about time and trap speed, it would be a Plaid- kind of end of story. Street legal and drivable at [email protected] MPH.

Sure. But trap speed equals potential best ET to those that drag race, right?

Also, that Plaid does 1 thing only, so, a 1 trick…..pony ?. Have fun until the road curves.

Potential-sure-but who crosses the line first is who wins-right? 12.4 is not a slow car in the 1/4 mile from my perspective. And doing that in an SUV...impressive.

I hear you and I think I am agreeing with your perspective. If I wanted a car for the Drag strip, that is street legal and fun-I would get a Plaid.

If I wanted a car for a race track like Laguna Sega or Willow Springs-I would get a different car as I noted.

If I needed an plug in vehicle that I would take on long drives several times per week. Probably would get a Model Y in 2021/22 because of the charging network and practicality. In 2023 I may have a different answer.

But I am not buying a car "today" for any of those reasons. There is a reason that there are so many cars on the market. Everyone makes a call on what are the priorities/compromises.

So... I guess that the question is...Is the MME GT PE the best at anything? To me the answer is a clear yes to that question...it excels at meeting/exceeding my priorities for what I am looking for a daily driver. What I want is both practical and fun to drive, comfortable and distinctive to look at. I look at the GT as a "grand touring" daily driving vehicle, with hands free highway driving for both long drives and traffic, Magneride suspension, great seats and sound system, etc... I am not sure if there is a better overall package that gives me as much of everything that I want from a car for driving daily on the street as the MME GT PE.
