Yeah it's adaptive based on your driving habits overtime it will never say the maximum mileage it's a equation not an actual happening.

Most modern ICE cars do show an estimated distance until empty. But for some reason most people seem to be fine with that estimate being inaccurate. It’s a people problem.
This is a really interesting point. My GTI DTE was always Super optimistic until a 1/4 tank left. Per the DTE I’d be on pace for ~420 miles on a tank and then the last 1/4 of the tank felt like it was boiling off. There was a clear nonlinear progression of the fuel gauge and it’s relationship to the DTE.

I instinctively learned that there was no way I could comfortably get more than ~310 out of a tank of gas, despite the computer thinking otherwise till the very end.

Maybe folks are instinctively conditioned to expect that underperformance and as a result, are seeing the low GOM number and having a freak out as they have years of seeing that be too optimistic.

We need a behavioral scientist in here stat!

Two years ago I bought my XT5 in Chicago and drove it home to VA. Halfway home when I stopped at the hotel for the night, the car said 50 miles to empty. There was literally a gas station next door but I thought for sure I could make it to the next gas station off the turnpike 30 miles away. The next morning I ran out of gas 5 miles from the exit.

I should have blamed GM, right?

Even the gas gauge in my GLI was non-linear. The first 1/4 tank lasted much longer than the other 1/4s. I have gone to 0 DTE once for longer then I expected haha.
For some reason EVs are sold on “range” and people are conditioned to expect what they paid for. Eventhough they’ve all delt with decreasing range in their ICE cars. Give them a few months and they’ll forget all about a 180 or 220 mile range on their <40mile daily drive.

First, let me say I love my Ford Mach-E....I'm literally stopped in the street by pedestrians and drivers alike to admire the car! However, I'm in a battle with the Ford Service organization, because I bought the Extended Battery, and not once has it reached 270 miles on the range display. It says it's a 100% when it hits 213 miles. The highest it's every shown after several days of charging in a warm garage is 238. Service keeps talking about reduced range during the winter, which I totally understand...but why won't it reach 270, and why does it say 100% at 213 miles. Please help, this is extremely frustrating and I don't want to file suit, but I paid a lot for this car like all of us did, and I want every mile due to my long commute. Thank you
the car estimates your range given your driving habits. It knows when its cold outside and adjusts expected range accordingly.

Drive it from 100 and see how many miles you actually manage. Betting it’ll be more than 213. Even in the cold.

Ok to be fair ... the difference is that in an ICE vehicle range doesn't matter. There's a gas station every .1 miles and it takes 5 minutes and you're on the road again. The psychology behind range anxiety would be non-existent if EV chargers were on every corner and it was a few minutes then go. With an ICE vehicle I have NEVER ONCE planned a trip, where I would stop, how long it would take etc. I just get in the car and go without thinking about where I'm gonna stop for gas.

I see it a bit differently. Yes most gas cars show distance to empty and yes it's wildly inaccurate. However when the car is fully fueled, they pretty much show the approximately the same number, regardless of conditions. EVs actually show a more accurate number that fluctuates with conditions. For Instance, two nights ago when I charged, my car had an estimated range of 312. The next afternoon after the garage wormed up with the sun hitting the garage door directly for a few hours, the indicated range it was showing 327. This confuses and infuriates some people ;)

i have some sympathy for OP, but not a lot. i count three other posts on the same topic on the first page in the Battery and Charging section.

i totally get feeling aggrieved and rushing to seek advice ... but if you didn't do research before buying the car, how about some research after, and before posting?

i mean, OP themselves admit they paid a lot ... surely some due diligence is required?

part of me is tempted to say, go ahead, file the suit and keep us posted!

on that note, i wonder what happened to the poster who didn't know which model he had bought ...

Im convinced this forum was created by Ford and is secertly managed by Ford, along with the Bronco forum which is 100% similar in every way. New threads asking about the GOM is almost a daily event and the forum software should say "read here first before posting etc". FAQ link above would be helpful too.

Dealers are clueless about the MME and will tell you whatever sounds good.
