So apparently Ford only “dropped” an extra 250 FEs. It seems like they may be making an exception for conversions though. If not, I’d think they would have hit the 250 limit before their new drop announced today.
Not so sure. It's a hot topic here, but when it comes down to it there's probably only a few dozen reports of people here trying to upgrade. (I haven't looked lately but I'd guess similar at the other forum.) And the vast majority of buyers surely still don't even know these "extra" FEs are available to upgrade to.

And this Machdop thing (seen by very few people) isn't likely to produce many brand new orders. Those that were really interested in buying likely already had a reservation. Not many people are ready to make a $60k purchase, especially for something totally new and different like this, without more contemplation and research.

And that seems to match what people have been told when they call the machdrop line. I've heard no reports of busy signals and few having to leave a message. Doesn't sound like they're swamped, and sounds like it's just 2 people that everyone has dealt with. She also repeated to me "over 80% are existing res/order people calling to upgrade". She told me maybe 10 "new" orders came in (although I think she meant just her, thus maybe 20 total).

So 200-250 sounds plausible to me. Maybe 25 new, and the rest upgrades to existing orders.

Remember that most everyone here already has a reservation if not an order. I suggest that the fact most people here going for the #MachDrop are conversions is because this is a sample heavily biased toward conversion rather than new orders.

Persistence seems to have paid off. I spoke to Julie at Ford today (as others mentioned) and she seemed honestly horrified by what it has taken me to get any traction on a FE machdrop. She took down every bit of information and immediately called my dealer to talk to them. She said if they didn't sound receptive she was going to go to their district manager. Hours later I got a call from my dealer saying Julie called and stepped him through the process.

Apparently Ford now has to take all these orders and manually process them before the dealer gets the actual order.

Now we wait.
Same for me. She took my info and called/emailed my dealer (I even gave her his email address). She told me the dealer would need to send a manual buyers order for it via PDF within 48 hours as a place-holder until they can open them up in the WEBDO order bank in Sept. She said the dealer might want a signature on it. I emailed my dealer with the same info as a heads up. That was around noon yesterday.

Didn't hear anything from him in the afternoon and being a Friday I was getting skittish that maybe he was just off for the day and would be out during the weekend (this is the GM), so I decided just to drive over and pop in (it's only 5 minutes away). He said he got the email from Julie about me wanting an FE upgrade, but she didn't say anything to him about a buyers order. Ugh. So we went ahead and filled one out and sent it to her just in case. Then I emailed the EVTeam last night to ask for confirmation that they got it, and that I'm all locked in just in case. No reply yet (probably be next week).

Everyone here, yes. As I said, I expect those are all upgrades, not new. Same with the other forum. The new ones likely would be the cold callers from Twitter, etc, and I expect that to be a very small number (like ~25).

I found a LinkedIn post that implies that the #MachDrop promotion was managed by BBDO, which is a major advertising firm.

At the end, she links to one of the many auto blogs that posted stories about this. Trying to see this from her perspective and Ford's, this is yet another way to get word out about this exciting new PEV Mustang from Ford. (In addition to selling available First Editions.)

This type of advertising, and others that Ford's dripped out like the New Breed song, are probably intended to produce new interest in the car by increasing brand socialization and awareness. They might not be FE orders, and they might not even occur right away... But people will see the headlines and some might decide to go further.

No doubt. Makes sense for them to advertise on various platforms and target different audiences.

Using First Edition line-skipping as part of it is a whole `nother matter, of course. But I totally get why they want to advertise on various platforms.

This makes even more sense. The whole thing was orchestrated by an outside ad agency who probably knows nothing about the Forums, etc. #MachDrop #TurkeyDrop.

So now that the dealer drop orders are in, when do you think the next time we hear any update about them will be? I'm guessing when they hit the dealers lot, and not a peep prior.
