How many ICE cars get 500 mile range on a single tank for a passenger car? NONE that are currently made.

Maverick Hybrid.

Still wish I could get one BEV tho.

These surveys are so stupid. They are surprised people wanted 500 mile range, but I would guess most of those people donā€™t know DC fast charging is a thing. I would want 500 mile range too if I thought all EVs required 8 hours to charge. All that tells me is EV companies need to engage in a very large public education campaign.
DC fast charges are almost non-existent in Indiana. Yep, it's in Chicago and it's in Indianapolis. That does me absolutely no good. My GT's barely getting 80 miles before I get significant power loss. I will say when the battery gets 60% it is not enjoyable or pleasant to drive with such a power limit and thats after maybe the 80 miles I'm at 60-50 percent. Temps been on -20s it is garage kept when home otherwise it is on the lake front

Nissan Altima easily, add some Hondas in there. People still look at. They can fill a tank that goes 400 mi in the matter of 3 minutes versus a DC fast charge that still takes what 20 minutes+ that is if there are any near you and it gets you 200 miles. Maybe a little more. Plain simple. There's just not enough chargers yet to get a lot of people to sway. And trucks the pull stuff. It's going to be hard to sway that once you start pulling with these EVs, it's going to be interesting to see what the battery life is pulling boats or heavy trailers. I know I would not get EV truck to pull my boat 9 hours to Kentucky. Trying to wiggle that thing in the parking lots that charge it. No thanks

How many ICE cars recommend not to go below 20% of the tank and to stop filling at 80%? Gas stations are also relatively quick, plentiful and reliable. It makes a difference on road trips. Local driving with the ability to charge at home not so much.

ICE has it's place for many people, myself included. I say no way in hell I'm going full EV. No reason to hate on ICE, encourage technology to make it carbon neutral. We can coexist.

Wellā€¦going bellow 1/4 tank is commonly frowned upon due to the fuel pump being cooled by the fuelā€¦ lol.

I wonder how much of the population actually go on road trips more than once every couple years.
I know the vast majority of people commute less than 40 miles a day in the US. So a plug-in hybrid seems like a great compromise if you have the means to charge it.

~375 mile range and charging 10-80 in 15 minutes is the holy grail as far as I'm concerned.

That's enough range to drive about 3 hours going 75 mph and charging 10-80, and 15-20 minute pit stops are about right imo, the 35-40 minutes is fine if you're eating a meal but if you're driving all day I don't eat 5 meals a day so the charging stops are way too long for a stretch and a wee.

Because of a trip to Park City, UT, I get anxious when I see the range drop below 100 miles, I just don't like it. Reminds me of the anxious time when traveling not knowing if the next EA stations would provide success fun charging or not.

I think the ICE engines have great advantage in that respect, whenever you stop at a gas station, you can be sure to fill up. And the electric infra-structure in this country simply is not out there.

Keep in mind that surveys like this are not good predictors of peopleā€™s actual behavior later on. Remember when everyone demanded that early smartphones and PDAs have physical keyboards? Then they went away and everyone completely forgot that they had that preference? I think once more people try EVs theyā€˜ll adapt, the pros will improve their life, and theyā€™ll forget that they had the previous preference completely.

Iā€™m not saying there arenā€™t good use cases for ICE vehicles, but in the 8 months of owning our MachE, we found we didnā€™t use the Prius AT ALL, so we lent it to the brother in law, and my Tacoma only gets started and driven around town for a few errands now and again just to keep the battery from dying. I didnā€™t think we would be an all EV household so fast, but the enormous time savings from not having to fill up for normal travel has been huge, plus it is just a nicer, faster, more comfortable, and cheaper to operate car.

EDIT: I donā€™t think EVs need much more range than ~300 miles, but I do think we need a lot more fast charging stations, especially to close the long gaps that exist in a few parts of the country.

Survey seems pretty accurate to reality.

The ā€œreal resultsā€ can be found by looking at actual car sales.

Itā€™s not an issue of ā€œpublic education.ā€ There isnā€™t a person buying a car today who hasnā€™t heard of Tesla at this point.

The issue? Building cars people want. If it werenā€™t for the GTPE, I would also have had zero interest in a BEV.

Want to sell more electric cars? STOP MAKING THEM UGLY!! There are still too many compromises when switching to BEV for the average consumer. But itā€™s getting better.

FUD is a very powerful thing, although I agree that right now BEV infrastructure isn't at the point where one can simply "get in the car and take a long trip" without planning. As for the survey, 40% of Americans refuse to get a free shot that can prevent them from dying so I am not surprised that the BEV disinformation campaign is so successful.
