I am honestly going to say.... do you really use the "kick under the bumper" system to open your tailgate? Lets be honest. You still have a power liftgate..... can still open remotely..... 22s have more battery capacity. I would take that trade-off.
I have a 2015 BMW 528i and I always use it, like any time I put something in the trunk. Putting everything down, finding the key and pushing a button would be a huge step back. The BMW does not even have adaptive cruise control, but it does have that.

I am now on the verge of cancelling too. I thought the Premium would be the quiet living room driving experience. Taking the acoustic glass away is bad, the hands free lift gate another.
I did buy a car in the past where I did last minute compromises and did regret it for the entire time I owned the car and promised myself to not repeat that mistake.

I've only had my car five days and have used kick-to-open on four or five of those days. It's incredibly useful (and fortunately there's no danger of it hitting my garage door if it phantom opens...)

The thread on the problem with the kick sensor and garage doors is replete with horror stories.

If your key or Paak just happens to be within range and something triggers the sensor (unclear what did it with the folks in the thread), you're SOL with a huge dent on the hatch.

I have a small garage and my MME is right up against my garage door. See photo. There's no adjusting the height to avoid a huge problem if the stupid bug Ford has with this sensor happens to me. Just in case, I have foam on the exact places the hatch would hit were it to open, but I don't want to rely on the hatch hitting the foam and having no other damage.

I'm sure it's a lovely feature (that wasn't tested enough by Ford in small garages....) but there's no frekin way I want to have my hatch screwed up because of it.

Not sure, what you are saying. Do you have the hands-free tailgate and fear that the garage door may trigger it?
This is more about people who ordered the car with a hands-free tailgate - and like me are used to it as an everyday feature - but now this seems to be eliminated from the original order without any notification.

My kick to open works decently well. The kick to close might as well be a hokey pokey dance tutorial because i always kick and kick and rekick like an idiot and it never closes. Honestly you're all probably no better or worse off without that feature. Super buggy.

Of course now my rear hatch doesn't even power close anymore as of 2 months ago So it doesn't even matter anyway.

I'm saying that there are so many reports on this forum of the feature triggering by light tricking it into thinking it's movement, or a cat or rat in the garage, that I disabled it because I have a short garage.

It's really not a big deal this isn't included anymore, I don't miss it and I'd much rather get my car a lot sooner if it were me. Certainly wouldn't be a reason to cancel my order because I couldn't press a button.

People keep saying, ā€œpress a button,ā€ but what button?

The kick to open was the only convenient way to open it.

There’s no button on the door to open it, so the driver is the only person who can (with the fob button, FordPass app, or a couple layers into the menu in the car).

Now if they replace kick to open with an actual button on the door, I think people would actually prefer that!

There is a physical button below (edit: above) the license plate that opens the hatch. That same button closes the hatch

Uh, you might want to go look at your hatch. I hope somebody didn’t steal your button. And yes, it’s always been there, just like Ground Speed and the Auto heated seat setting.

Well smack my ass and call me sally! I learned something new!

It’s above the license plate, but dang they hid that thing well. I had to get on my hands and knees to actually see it!

Only had the car 90 days and both myself and my wife looked all over for a button, but gave up. It is funny to watch other people try to open it by pushing the back up camera.

In order for kick to open to function, the fob or phone must be within 1 meter of the trunk.
I’ve followed the phantom opening threads with great interest, and I don’t think that it is certain that kick to open is the root cause.

Some cars turn on the headlights at random times, some open the trunk. There is something broken, but it’s not happening to a normally-functioning car being triggered by a cat walking by.

Sally, it would be a good idea to read through the owner's manual. There are far more obscure nuggets of info in there that you've probably been missing as well.
Iā€˜m not too proud to admit that I didn’t realize my car had a rear wiper until I saw the discussion on here about installing a longer blade!??

? Don't tell anyone. Let's just wait and see if anyone suddenly notices it and proclaims that it must have been added in an OTA update.

Yeah I'll let someone else discover the root cause.... I keep my Paak uninstalled and my key in a set place far away in my house and the evil kick sensor off.

Still think it's not something to cry about or cancel your order. It's not as bad at all as the BMWs without touch screens, or the Teslas delivered with holes in the interior where the USB ports should be.
