Just curious if anyone out there has ever purchased a second Ford mobile charger, or another mobile charger in general. I assume that most just buy a charging station for home and keep the mobile charger in the car, but I was thinking, "Maybe I should have a backup kept in the car."

You can, but it lists for $483 (LJ9Z-10C830-J). Most people will just buy a cheaper charger on Amazon (~$200-$300) if they need another one.

I think you only really need to keep one EVSE in the car, under the rare circumstance it doesn't work you can just drive a few miles to the nearest charging station unless you are totally in the middle of nowhere.

Two mobile chargers in the car? Why?

The hope was the mobile charger was significantly different than what charging stations are costing, which based on @Mach-Lee 's comment, the pricing seems to be the same as buying a full station that mounts at home.

My wife and I each have one. They both work well, mine charges mine and hers charges hers.

If I had only one EV I'd consider buying a second as the closest DCFC is 20 mins away and it tops out at 35kWh, (EVGo).

...or too slow to consider using.

I bought a second "mobile" EVSE so I could have more flexibility in setting the charging voltage. I have the Shell Recharge charger. I also gives me 40 amp charging at home

Thanks all for the comments.

My concept was the fact that I should probably have two chargers; one at home that stays in the Garage plugged in, and one on the car handy as a just in case.

Appreciate the feedback; starting to look like it's cheaper to get a charging station at home and keep the mobile charger in the car if I go that route.

Why not? The more chargers the better, right?

Doesn't the backup charger need a backup charger?

Even at home?

Ok yes the center one above is the same one in the back of the car.

I guess I was an "EVSE Enthusiast" when I had my Focus Electric ;) (I did win one in a contest, however--the JuiceBox.)

If you buy another, do not get the Ford. There are much better options on Amazon/others and the Ford one is only, really, 28 AMPs, get a real true 32 Amp one (I have a Lefanev, Chinese one, that was $279 at the time that has worked flawlessly for nearly 3 years now) or go for a 40 Amp. Maybe you can find one with adjustable settings that will work in a lot of situations as well. I regret not buying an adjustable one.
