After skipping Tesla's third-quarter call, he returned to the call Wednesday to discuss fourth quarter's record earnings and revenue. But his comments on this week's conference call spooked investors despite Tesla's successful financial results. Tesla (TSLA) shares had their worst day in months on Thursday, losing 11.6% and taking the other EV stocks down along with it.
Musk focused his comments on supply chain issues that had hurt Tesla far less than other automakers. Although Musk said Tesla was on path to be "comfortably above 50% growth in 2022," and that the chip shortage is "better than last year," he also noted the supply chain problem is "still an issue that could slow the rollout of new vehicles that had been expected as soon as this year.

I was sad to see his comments about the Cybertruck being delayed to 2023 or beyond, I was looking forward to seeing those on the streets.

More than being a leader or innovator, I think he is tremendously talented in marketing, and it looks like they oversold the Cybertruck as being a lot more than it was at its reveal in 2019, i.e. basically just a concept car.

Elon has been stringing investors along for years. He was being honest this time about supply issues. Naive investors shouldn't have believed it for so long, time for an adjustment.

Being honest or just trying to create a dip and buying low, the whole EV sector shares tanked as the report states.

Don’t forget “demo of swappable battery next year.” That was in 2013, I think.

Investors were expecting to hear how a company with sky high valuation plans to compete with newcomers who are taking more and more market share. Perhaps he could tell about long promised $25k car. Instead they heard BS about robots and other irrelevant stuff. When Elon said the Tesla Bot will be more valuable than its auto biz. investors ran for the door.

Cyber truck is one of the ugliest things ever designed.

So what I hear you saying is that he forgot his usual tactic of "baffling them with bullshit" and people actually noticed Tesla is not really a magical unicorn factory?

I think he is tremendously talented in marketing
That's a very polite way of saying "snake oil salesman"

Y'all are kinda hard on Elon. Vehicle design is hard.

As someone wisely mentioned in an older post, Cybertruck almost certainly will not pass Pedpro (pedestrian protection) standards as designed. This would not be a simple, cheap, or fast redesign.

3 years is forever in the auto business. If you can't get from prototype to production in that timeframe, it means your design has a fatal flaw. I'm sure Tesla will fix the Cybertruck, but it's not easy, as we all can see.

Atleast he is acknowledging the chip issues upfront in front of his customers and stakeholders. Only wish for some of this transparency from Ford ....... too much to ask. Also he claims Tesla is doing 50% better even with all the chip issues in keeping the demand fed.

HUH?!

How many times have Farley, Palmer, etc talked publicly about logistical nightmares causing delays? Perhaps no one from Ford has told you exactly why your specific car is delayed, but they absolutely HAVE been explaining the general situation.

Seriously, google "ford chip issues"

All of that may be true, but it doesn't change the fact that he has severe personality deficits ?

Tesla is totally in reactive mode right now. Musk's comments that Cybertruck was being updated with me-too features of quad motors (Rivian) and 4WS (Hummer) indicates that Tesla realized their product was falling short of the competition and couldn't go to market as originally spec'd. Makes me wonder, will it also be able to match Lightning's bi-directional charging?

Regardless, all these updates to respond to the market is costing them time and customers. It can't be cheap, easy, or fast to redesign the Cybertruck and also do the needful to go into production in 2022.
