Ok, I pressed the button. DO NOT PRESS THE BUTTON!!!
At least Ford presents a confirmation prompt asking if you’re really sure you want to do something stupid and I foolishly said “yes”. The confirmation prompt claims the button will flash the lights and honk the horn “for a few seconds”. It LIES! The lights and horn would not go off. Remote unlock wouldn’t shut them off. Pushing the button again only brought up the prompt about asking if you’re sure you want to flash the lights and sound the horn “for a few seconds again”. Opening the drivers door did not turn them off. The only way I got to turn them off was to start the car. I’m sure I will receive a stern disciplinary action from the politburo (aka the homeowners association) in short order for “disturbing the peace and tranquility of a politburo member” (who sadly happens to live nearby).

I wonder how this would work for OTA for me.

My OTA (Scriptable) says 2.3.0 failed and my car was updated to 2.3.0 at the dealership while it was in for the windshield recall.

If I were to try to do it OTA, I wonder if it would retry 2.3.0 first because of the prior failure, or if it would understand the car had it already and would instead install this update.
Ford's back end knows what versions of modules your car has. When a dealer does updates, the last step in the process is that it updates Ford's database of what versions your car has.

Even if that didn't happen, and they tried to send you 2.3.0, the first step of an OTA is it does an inventory of the files that the OTA has, and compares them to the versions on the car to make sure its needed in the first place.

It has always been on Job 1 cars too. The Horn/Lights button has been in the release notes of several updates now. I think it‘s just code for Ford not saying what’s really in the update.
More "Clear As Mud" OTA communication.

Yesterday there was an article in my news feed about Ford beating the bushes for more software engineers.

They need them.

Do we know what module 2.4.1 targets?
I'm not sure, since my car didn't qualify for this update I can't check easily.
But, based on the release notes, I'm going to guess it was either the TCU, or GWM.

I don't think so, myself. From day 1 the button has been there for me, but only within Bluetooth range. My button started working outside of Bluetooth range when I got 2.1.0

I still think that's not what the update ACTUALLY is doing. I think it's just prep for BC that does nothing a user would notice. So they're just putting this in because they want to put something.
It wouldn't be that hard to write a note that said "module code updates for improved operation" or something actually relevant to what happened.

I have two advantages here.

1. I live in a rural area.
2. I’m President of the HOA. :p

Doing this would annoy the sheep, the babies are cute. I’d be frightening baby sheep. Meh, they’ll get over it. The mongooses (evil creatures btw) will get scared, so that’s a win. Perhaps a cow poops, what else is new there?. The barn cats will get rather angry though, so I may want to reconsider this. ;)

This brings us back to the question though: just wtf is this update about?
There are rural areas in HI? They never show that on Hawaii 5-0! Everything I know about Hawaii is from Hawaii 5-0 and Marriott’s website (oh, and I stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village once, so I’m sure I’ve had a true Hawaiian experience! ?)

I know but I need neither PAAK nor these buttons. I am walking past my car frequently with my phone on me, and I don't want PAAK to wake up the car every time. I tried PAAK, and I am not thrilled.
Call me old fashioned I am happy with the keyfob, and I luckily got two with my GT :)

Going back to the 2.4.1 power up, why is Ford releasing something that we already have? I used the button and it activates the horn and lights, so it works already.

I do a 'force stop' on FP, or turn off Bluetooth if I am going in/out of the garage and walking past MME during the day.

Things must be improving. I'm usually 10-14 days behind and OTA after someone posts here. Got this one this morning ?

I got 2.3.0 on day 1 (early access), but don't have 2.4.1 queued up yet. I guess it's possible that it targets a module that I've already updated with FDRS. Or Ford just hasn't approved it for all early access members yet.

THis is why they need to have a toggle enable/disable of PaaK while leaving it "configured". This way you get all those features but if you disable it in the app, when you walk by your car (or if you live in a really small urban house, your car can be unlocked while sstanding in your living room bc its so close to the driveway). Then you dont need to delete it to turn it off and if you find yourself without your fob you can easily go in the app and "enable" it.

Also why can we still not see the lock status of the car in the app?

I got the early access power up 2.3.0 invite to review 2.3.0 email from Ford. Well I let them know that it was a complete failure since I have never received any OTA updates other than blue cruise.

Here is a novel idea Ford. Got an update ready? Ok, let owners go into their cars, press check for updates, and then actually be able to GET THE UPDATE! Geeze!!

but, all that ranting aside, there is clearly a disconnect between the gen 1 cars and gen 2 production and GT. My 1.7.6 GT has had that horn an lights thing (and some of the other newer features) for weeks if not months. So the releases and features are all out of sync and very hard to keep up with in general as to what's what on which cars. Regardless, I really hate the way Ford has (or hasn't) implemented the whole OTA system.
