Quick question before my road trip tomorrow.

My extension cord for a 120v outlet is used for outdoor tools and is 100ft long. On the tag it says 10A but other than that I have no knowledge on whether it is safe for the mobile charger. Might not even need it but was going to take it just in case. Would this cord work? I read the 120v mobile charger pulls 12A of power.

Thanks for any help.

I’d want at least a 15 amp cord. 14 gauge wire. That’s my comfort zone.

Ideal is 12 gauge for a 100 foot run.
Yep, 14AWG is too small for a run that long. I would not trust 14AWG of any length on most 120V~ outlets given that those outlets already have a reasonably long run to the breaker box. ?ā€ā™‚?

Of course I can post some extension cord pron... You can always put the extension cord on the other end of the EVSE:

(They resurfaced our street and re-poured the curbs--thus we couldn't drive over the curb for about a week; some of that time the curb was just a big hole.)

I bought the shortest length and biggest Guage for my 110v outlet and it works fine.

Too bad they are so expensive.

Yeah the connectors on either end are likely the source of that cost--they are pretty solid.

I wouldn’t risk the extension cord overheating and possibly causing a fire. Not to mention risk damaging your fairly expensive EV!

I think my extension is only 40 or 50ft.

Our driveway is relatively short even for our block...

Edit: 40ft.
