No complex system is defect free. Once you hit a threshold for quality its optimal to deliver the thing and update it in the field.

Obviously, I'm biased here, but I'd rather use the thing than wait. If I had to nutshell the concern though, it's more around the lack of communication and roadmaps than delivery.

I'm also getting impatient. I have a Job 1 with June 2021 on the door sticker, which was released in early August and delivered on September 6. I eventually got 1.4 and 1.7.1 successfully OTA in early November and nothing since then. I don't know whether to go to the dealer for manual updates, or just to keep waiting for OTA. Difficult to understand if the "successful" 1.7.1 actually caused a problem or not. The Ford recall web site says no recalls and no CSPs so guessing the dealer won't want to do anything. Watching the weekly scheduled update day go by without anything is very painful.

Im in the second batch of folks getting the BC update from EA program. I got 2.4.2, it installed and I notice the brake pedal difference, sync says I have 2.4.2 installed. The widget says I have 2.4.2 and it failed. I also, got a notification that 2.4.2 failed to install and that Ford would retry asap. I know they had problems with 2.4.2 before so maybe they havent ironed it out like they thought they had? Either way I think they are re-reworking 2.4.2.

I'm somewhat in the same boat with a "Job 1.5" car. I didn't experience the delivery delay that you did, and my car is at 2.3. Of course all that means is that I have Blocks and Tiles and a horizontal volume bar. ? ?

And just think, if you weren't on this Forum you wouldn't be worried at all. You would have no idea something was coming and wouldn't be anxious about getting it.

Breathe in, breathe out.

Do you believe Ford hit that threshold in respect to software in this car?

At a minimum, I would expect EVERY single First Edition to function exactly the same. Likewise every Select, Premium, GT etc (with like options included). But that isn't what happened. We have vehicles with identical specifications yet their software packages function completely different. Some cars were delivered without the navigation software, some others had faulty access modules and users were completely unable to set up PaaK. Others could not charge on AC. Others could not charge on DC. List goes on and on. Crazy stuff.

To hear people making excuses when a company ships a car with half baked software is quite unacceptable to me. As long as people accept that as the norm then car companies will keep pushing the boundaries and try to get away with it.

Way back when the Mach-E was presented and people were allowed to reserve one for themselves, Ford said they were going to offer Over-The-Air Updates so the "Mach-E will get better over time.". What I heard was "We are going to send you a broken car and promise to fix it later when we get around to it."

I was really really hoping that I was wrong. Lesson learned. :(

There should be no pain. Are you not enjoying your car as it currently functions? When updates come available for your VIN then you will be notified. If your car isn't working as designed then yes...take it to the dealer and let them fix it under warranty.

? I’d still know I don’t have BC a year on…. And that it has been shipping on new cars since July without this forum. I’d still know Ford has said it’s coming on X Y and Z dates…. Just sayin. ?

My sense is that Job 2 cars, yes. Job 1, maybe, maybe not. But, I don't have access to the data so all we have is reports from people who have problems. Which isn't that useful without % context. Very few people complain about things that work, so we don't have access to their sample data.

No car is exactly the same as any other car. There are always small variations. Very few complex systems have the level of similarity that you desire. That kind of quality control is generally too expensive for consumer goods.

I'm not going to defend Ford for quality issues in the cars they delivered. I don't have the knowledge, context, or desire to do that. I would expect every car they delivered to meet a basic threshold for quality, if one doesn't, that shouldn't happen and it is fair to criticize Ford for doing that. They should make that right. If it's isolated, they should replace the lemon. If it's a broader issue, then they should fix it.

In specific terms, I have no major issues with my car. I wish some things worked differently. That it had features that competitive cars have. But none of those things are major, and most of them I was very much aware of when I bought the car.

Ultimately, I don't think there's any reason why Ford shouldn't have sold the car I bought. I would happily buy it again. My previous car had way more issues in the first year of ownership (all of them relatively minor as well). Maybe Ford should have left Job 1 cars in the oven longer, maybe they were mostly fine. I don't know, not really the point of this thread either...

Thanks for the clarification
I have a Premium delivered in April 2021. Have done all the dealer system updates. I see lots of folks have Sync 4 OTA updates beyond my 2.10. How can i know what the most recent update is and what update i should have? Why wouldn't we all get the same updates in a reasonably short period of time like an iPhone . My dealer is clueless.

There are no "downgrades". Updates aren't necessarily sequential. No updates to this point have every been removed by OTA.
oh, that's strange?

I was updated to 2.1.0 Jan 4,
I was updated to 2.3.0 Jan 20,
I was updated to 2.1.0 Feb 12,
And today, I'm still at 2.1.0 Mar 30...

I feel exceptionally lucky to be the first ever Mach E to have been Downgraded!

/unless I'm really reading this wrong?

Ok, this wasn't supposed to get out, but the reason the updates are delayed is that the engineers have been debating on the prioritization and can't come to agreement.

It's a known bug that 2.3 displays as 2.1. Check your Sync version to confirm.
