That's an interesting point. Ford could have sold just as many, maybe more, with a Ford brand. But with the Mustang brand they put a stake in the ground and claimed a big chunk of the market. Not only is it good looking, it's a really good car. Even more, it's a really good EV. But on top of all that, it's a Mustang (grunt). Maybe they'll goad Chevy into doing an electric Camaro. That would be fun, and would go a really long way to cementing EVs in the mainstream.

I kinda like it doesnt say Ford anywhere....

Mustang owners really do get mad at us for the name like we picked it??

It could have been named Explorer sport EV, Broncosport EV, or just Mach E in general and we still would have bought it. (Its not the name we bought it for but the looks, range, and specs etc)
I am sure I'm unusual somewhat, but the name was actually part of why I bought it. I'm legit not sure I would have bought it if it was branded as an Escape or whatever.

and of course it's a Mustang, because Ford called it a Mustang. The whole argument that it's not a Mustang is just so truly idiotic.

Ford could have called this a Mustang and guess what, it would then be a Mustang:

It's exactly the same thing as the people that complain that "Star Trek: Discovery" isn't "Star Trek" or that "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" isn't "Star Wars". Just because you don't like it, doesn't change the basic factual reality of it.

It's a very, very, very simple, black and white thing. Ford labelled it "Mustang", so it's a Mustang. Literally everything else is factually wrong, period. There's literally no room for discussion on it.

It certainly helped get us excited about it. We love our Escapes too, and it wouldn't have been a problem for us at all if it were called an Escape. But having some of the cool Mustang stylings and name helped push us over the top on paying $59,000 on a car. Not sure I would have paid $59k for an EV Escape.

Connecticut, but with a lot of road time in the more rural sections of NY, CT, MA, and NJ. I grew up in AR and NC, and can say authoritatively that rednecks are everywhere.
I live in Northern CA, "Silicon Valley" and they're everywhere, though fewer in number here.

I might have bought it if it wasn't a Mustang, but I'm not sure. Probably not.

I've wanted a Mustang for decades, but I could never convince myself to get the entirely impractical ICE version. We decided to go BEV after 20 years of hybrids. A V8 or even V6 ICE car was just not on our short list. So, when the Pony was put on an EV, it matched my needs with my desires.

People forget that the original Mustang wasn't (just) aimed at car nuts. It was also marketed to people who wanted a grocery getter.

1. If you really "despised" it (verb. 1. feel contempt or a deep repugnance for.), you wouldn't have bought the car.
2. When I said nobody cared, I was speaking general terms which are generally true. I'm sure there's some masochist out there, but the name isn't hurting sales. "Pinto" sure as hell would have.

I would NOT have been interested if it was named Pinto. I would not have invested any time looking at a car named Pinto. No.no. Triple No.

I always thought mustangs looked cool but never wanted one for myself. I’ve driven them, it was not my cup of tea. This is the first mustang I would be happy to own. I love SUVs and love the look of sports cars. This car hits my happy place.

Exactly. Same here. The Mustang style cues and name are great! But I'd never want an actual Mustang because it's a low sedan/sports car. My days of buying low sedans ended 20 years ago. It's SUV or CUV for me now. Even the Mach-E is a bit shorter (63" height) than what I really wanted, but it was close enough. I hate low vehicles. ~63" is the bare minimum I'd want now (70" would be about perfect). Looking forward to some truer SUV EVs coming out later this decade.

Could you imagine telling people “ I drive a pinto.” Pinto= car on its last leg or tire.?
My sister-in-law restored a Pinto to match what she owned back in the day. The Pinto isn't as hated by many people who owned one of them in the 70s. I doubt she would buy a Pinto EV, though. She's as die-hard "not-a-Mustang," and anti-EV as they come.

This is my fifth Mustang, I've driven over 500,000 miles in Mustangs. But I'm with you in that this is the best Mustang I've owned.

Put the pedal to the metal and let'em see what happens. I currently drive an ICE GT (see avatar) and unless it's warm out and the tires are warmed up, I will spin the tires when taking off. Granted I have all season tires on it, but I'm willing to bet my MME 4EX (when I get it 50 years from now) will feel faster simply due to instant torque and AWD.
Not sure where you are in Arkansas, but here in the Russellville area, there aren't enough MMEs around for most folks to probably even recognize it. I get a lot of stares and have had a few people ask me about it, but I'm betting most don't even realize it's a BEV. I have noticed a few pony cars that seem to take off a little faster when I'm around, but maybe I'm just imagining things :)

1. WRONG. I am intelligent enough to separate the car, and all the great things about it, from the name.
2. Why. There is no chance of someone sticking a rag in the gas cap and causing their ev to explode… they could havecashed in on that safety factor. And, people would still be talking about it, which is the biggest reason all you “Ford said my station wagon is a Mustang, so it’s a Mustang” use for the naming being such genius.
Just one little thing about the pinto - ford employees of the era were t going to work very day, saying to themselves “how can we design this car to blow up on impact more spectacularly?” I don’t think it’s productive to rehash all the details, but Ford made an unfortunate decision, based on actuarial science of the time, to not rectify the problem when they found out about it. I can’t see ford making the same decision today.
