So I am waiting for my Mach E to be built in about 4-5 months and today I get a call from the dealer I placed the order thru.

The dealer says the identical color, trim, options, etc - is available now from an abandoned customer order.

He says they are taking "offers" on the car that is en-route.

I asked what would it take and he said they don't officially charge over MSRP, but are taking offers or bids on the car while in transit.

What is reasonable over MSRP ?

I know that this dealer charges nothing ($0 ADM) for an ordered car, but I guess they can charge whatever they want on a dealer ordered or take offers / bid like an auction for a customer abandoned car.

Ah, Norm Reeves. Interesting, when I called they were DEFINITELY marking up. Now they've made it a bidding war. Just tell them you'll pay MSRP if they'll do it and they get to keep your car when it comes in and do a bidding war on that. I wouldn't pay over MSRP, IF you can wait for your car.

MSRP is going up a lot here next Wed if your car isn’t invoiced yet. May or may not be worth an offer.

What does that mean ?
Price increase on a car that has been built and in transit??
How can they increase prices on the Monroney sticker once it's been created ?

I suggest you check your state laws, in this state, Minnesota, a seller must honor the price they quoted. They cannot raise the price, add hidden fees. However bidding on a different vehicle, then the one you ordered, may be a different situation.

I'd never offer more than MSRP, especially if you have an identical car on order. Why pay more than you have to?! Your order isn't affected by the forthcoming price increases, either.

He already ordered it... don't spread misinformation. If he ordered it, he has price protection and will pay the price it said at the time it was ordered.

I say what’s it worth to lock in the deal and skip the line? With all the uncertainties it’s a crapshoot as to when your car on order will be built and delivered.

That said, if it were me in your situation, I would offer $3k ADM.

Why don't they let you buy that car at MSRP and when your car comes in, they can jerk someone else around! <-----great offer

For who? Not for the dealer. Why would the dealer trade places with OP for no monetary gain? Pretend you are the dealer. How does this trade sound to you?

That's a fair amount over MSRP to "cut the line".....

Ass uming the OP's car is on order with price protection, OP gets the car that coming in and the dealer will take over the car that will be delivered and then they are free so sell that car, with the price increases and dealer ADM; It makes sense for the OP, monetarily and it would be a rare display of good customer service. The dealers are in this only to make money, any way they can, off of the customer.
