PAAK....Is this a feature or a bug?

Are you successfully using PAAK, or phone as a key, to enter and start the vehicle on a daily basis.

I see a lot of complaining about the phone as a key feature and wanted to get an idea of how many actually use it successfully on a day to day basis. I'm hoping to get delivery of my Mach-E sometime next week and am greatly looking forward to the feature. That said, if its a pain to use or it never really works, then it might not be worth anything. Fingers crossed!

What say you, forum?

I have been using PAAK 100% of the time for about 2 months now. The only time I have issues, I realize my phone had rebooted and I hadn't opened the fordpass app back up to get the service started again.

If you set your expectations appropriately you'll be happy. It is not uncommon to have to pull my phone out and wake the screen prior to entry. I then put my phone on the wireless charging pad and it has been virtually flawless.
If you expect to never have to take your phone out of your pocket you will likely be disappointed. YMMV.

I don’t take my phone out of my pocket. If I had to, I would absolutely be disappointed.
I see you conveniently cut off the 'YMMV' when you quoted my post. You do know what that means, right??

I mostly use PaaK. When it fails I unlock the door with FordPass and if it doesn’t work as a key, I start using the backup start code.
It’s actually good that PaaK occasionally fails so you retain your recovery skills.

I hate to pick that it works "every time" but I've been driving this thing for 14 months and I only use the plastic key thingie when I take it somewhere for service (detailing, 10,000 mile service, recall).

Yes, I only quoted the part I was responding to. You were describing your experience and expectation, and I was describing mine. PaaK‘s reliability clearly varies greatly between owners.

At first, I wasn’t going to use PaaK because I hate carrying my phone. That had nothing to do with PaaK and everything to do with how much of a nuisance carrying the phone is to me. I did set up PaaK when I got my car home, however. I have been using it ever since. It has only failed me a few times, and each time I was able to make it work again by either force-quitting the app and restarting (once), restarting the phone (once), or restarting BT. Today, I got a “No key detected” warning after PaaK successfully got me in the car and I had successfully started the car. I drove home from work without any trouble or further intervention between me and the phone or me and the car. ?‍♂??

I went with the second option because I can't say it works every time. However, it's typically not a hassle for me when it doesn't work - simply use the codes.

I’ve had PAAK fail exactly once in a year of ownership. That single failure was because I was testing the backup code and had turned Bluetooth off. When I turned everything back on the car didn’t recognize it. Used the code again to get home. It’s been fine ever since. Sometimes slow, sometimes frightening fast. It always works.

PAAK has been working fine for me. Occasionally it wont connect in 30 secs, so I tap the pin code door, get my things in, put my phone down and refresh fordpass (dragging the fordpass app display down from top). Usually that is enough to allow me to start and drive the car. It's so rare I've had to use my console password I actually forgot it (Was outside shovelling snow when I wanted to move the car out of the way and tried to use password).

I just had an software update, and when I was getting some things from the car later on, it seem to react from further away. Maybe just coincidence. It will be interesting to see if PAAK will work even better now so I don't even have to use the door pin code

I would bring the fob if it was raining hard or snowing horribly, just in case, but PAAK has generally been good to me.
