Hi - I read through some of the other threads but wanted to clarify something...

We just finished using our comp 250kWh so rather than pay $0.43 per kWh for P&C, we'd like to subscribe to the EA Pass+ and pay $0.31 instead.

I downloaded the EA app but do I need to disable my P&C account or can I leave it alone, fire up the EA app, and charge (without P&C looking up my ID when I plug in, taking over, and charging the higher rate)?

Thanks for any advice you can provide for the best path forward!

Just turn off Plug & Play in FordPass. Then activate the charge station in EA. You don’t need to disable your Ford account.

I just went through this, disable plug and charge in the Ford Pass App and use the EA App. The one thing that I can say is that for whatever reason I was never able to get the EA Card in my Apple Wallet to work with any of their chargers and even EA Support can not figure out why.

I have to manually start the charging through the EA App but it is worth it for if you plan on using their chargers at all. The $4 a month is saved sometimes in the first charge.

Also keep in mind that their pricing is different depending on the location. Some charger per min and some charger per kw. I believe it varies by state. I honestly thought that it would be better / cheaper paying per Kw but it actually cost me almost double vs per minute.

As answered above, you can turn off Plug&Charge from FordPass and that will allow you to activate charge sessions via the EA app to get your discount. If you find yourself fast charging year round, you may want to look into Ford's version of EA Pass +, which supports Plug&Charge and gets you the cheaper rate, but costs $50/yr up front rather than $48/yr in monthly $4 installments. While the convenience of Plug&Charge may be worth $2/yr, the annual pass only really makes sense if you fast charge throughout the year and would have to pay for 12 monthly passes anyway.

Right. You can upgrade to Pass+ the morning of a trip, then downgrade 5 minutes later, and in 30 days it downgrades. We have paid 3 months in the last 7.

Hmm...unfortunately, it seems that Ford hasn't activated their own $50 option. Going to Connected Service and Blue Oval Charging Network only allows me to "manage" account (add/revise a CC, toggle P&C on/off) but doesn't have an "Upgrade" button to add an annual plan?

Ford rolled this out months ago, and the discount did not work, so they pulled it. Then they supposedly fixed it so the discount worked, but have not re-rolled it out again.

Yeah - I just did the $4 monthly on EA's app and don't have an issue swiping on the app to start.

Actually, you don’t have to deactivate P&C at all. Just start the charge session via the EA app and then plug in. The app or the charger will tell you to plug in first but just ignore that. Start with app and then plug in. You will be getting the EA rate. I leave P&C on for short trips - one or maybe two charges at the most. Then I just use P&C without paying the $4 extra for the lower rate. It’s about a wash on a full charge but it’s a little easier.

Hopefully they get it sorted by June. Have a vacation planned.

I find the interest in P&C somewhat confusing. My experience with EA for two years has been plug-in, initiate via app, walk away. With P&C it was plug-in, make sure it’s working, walk away. Time spent initiating charge is basically the same so that convenience ā€œbenefitā€ really doesn’t exist, at least not as currently implemented.

Ultimately P&C cost me much more time and effort as I was double-billed for the charge and had to call Ford customer service to be refunded. They pulled from my free charging bonus and charged me the EA rate. Two road trips coming up so hopefully that little experience isn’t repeated. But honestly I don’t necessarily plan to use P&C once the free balance is exhausted unless there is some tangible benefit to doing so.

Agree with this. Technically, it is not "plug and charge" as I have to wait until it connects to the server and reads the car's info after plugging in, and then have to press "start" on the station.

Thanks. I need to try this - not plugging in first and starting with the EA app. I've had at least two occasions where plugging it in first (as instructed in the EA app) started the process with P&C and I did not get my EA Pass discount.

Yeah, that’s the key. The app says to plug in first - just ignore that and activate the charger in the app first and then plug in. It will work and charge your EA account at whatever rate plan is active.
