Free Electrify America Charging Weekend (Memorial Day?)

You apparently don't understand that companies do promos to get people to use their products and services. That's what the free weekend is.

It's worth noting though that promotions are usually undertaken by businesses that have lot of competition, in order to try and take business away from the other guys. But for the most part, EA doesn't have hardly any competition for CCS DCFC yet (particularly the interstate routes).

Frankly, I don't think the free charging weekends ever made much sense for them. It was just lost revenue (build-out capital) with hardly any upside. Travelers taking road trips are gonna use them anyway, out of necessity. And most locals near home will usually just continue charging overnight at home anyway where it's better for the battery, better for the grid, and easier.

I actually think they were done on purpose to avoid issues with network and payment authorizations on busy weekends. You’ll notice any time there’s a network issue with EA, the chargers are all free.

Years ago I worked at a company as Chief Marketing Officer. We were moving office buildings. Product was 100% produced by 3rd parties to order, i.e. no physical inventory. I ran a huge MOVING SALE on our website, lots of "everything must go" and "our landlord has only given us a short period of time to move" and such. A bunch of the web designers (i.e. technical people) that worked for me came to me and said "you know, we have no warehouse". I said "show me where I said a word about a warehouse".

Then I ran an last minute "extended for a limited period" on top of that. Biggest 6 weeks in the company's history.

But the last coding I did was COBOL in the early 80s so I defer to the software engineers on those debates.

But definitely interesting how many comments some chargers already have today by noon, things are getting busy out there for EVs!
