In the affected vehicles, it is possible that the high voltage battery main contacts may overheat, which can result in an open contact or welding condition.

Well Crap, now EVERY Mach E will have the GT 5 Second Rule...

Meaning, the GT has a 5 second rule because the battery might overheat. So now the Software fix is to limit the car to 5 second 'runs' to prevent overheating?

Or will it turn the A/C battery pre-cooling fans on every 5 seconds if you are going 'too fast'

/yay
The software fix is simple -- a popup message on the screen warning you to slow down or your warranty will be void.

I just heard rumor that when Ford discovers the correct remedy, they intend to institute a recall starting with those whose MME's were delivered most recently and work backward to those who received earliest deliveries.

Well, that's the rumor I'm starting anyway.

Honestly, the battery drop should be no problem at all. It’s a few bolts down each side an electrical connection and some coolant lines. Pretty much emu experienced mechanic with high voltage safety training should have no issue doing that part. I don’t know what the rest of the fix entails but mechanically this shouldn’t be an issue. Software and rebalancing cells and calibration would be the part where EV specific experience is more needed.
From what I've read, the things that might complicate this fix if they have to replace the HVBJB:

1. De-energizing the HV battery - I'm not sure if there is a faster way to drain it (in the shop, not by driving it LOL) when the contactor is still functional. When it's not functional (as in the current repairs for this issue) then this process takes "about a day". I am pretty sure they battery has to be drained for safety reasons before they open the outer battery case.

2. The lift - the battery weighs >1,000 lbs and requires a special lift to lower. I am skeptical that any dealer has more than 1 of these, although maybe they can get a second one. I dunno how much one costs. But if they only have one, then they can only do one of these repairs at a time.

How did they make you whole?
In the bolt case they followed state lemon laws. So in Mass with my 2 year old bolt that I paid 25k OTD, MSRP was 37k, they offered rental until fixed, full 25k I paid, or swap for any 37k GM product. I swapped to a truck, then traded for the MME. Even those who paid MSRP in 2017 were able to swap to new 2022 Bolts. So even if we just got what we paid, that's 10k in tax credits I keep

Too much speculation and drama in this thread. I am going to click ignore and go back to my personal debate as to whether I should drain off some pool water tonight to reduce my cyanuric acid levels.

https://cleanup.expert/info/cyanuric-acid-pool-stabilizer/
Why not drain your whole pool, throw out your equipment, and convert to a salt-water pool? Or better yet, save water for the rest of us and fill it in and get a pool membership at your nearest gym ?

I went to pick up my MME today after a 10 month wait. I was in the middle of doing paper work and my dealer came out and said "I have some news and your not going to like it". so, no delivery of the MME today and probably another several month until Ford gets the retrofit in place. I really like my dealer, but Ford, not so much today.

Probably a stupid question, but would driving in high temperatures be a danger as well, or is that unrelated? It’s already in the high 90s here in oklahoma.
Unknown, but I doubt 75 degree weather vs 105 would matter much.

The amount of heat needed to melt/weld metal is……. Much higher.

My guess is a bad connection causing arching electricity which gets extremely hot and can melt metal.

This would have literally nothing to do with 5 second limits or battery temps if that’s the case. Could be 20 below zero and you could still weld/melt metal.
