Not mine but an old college friend in Ohio. Fixable or toast? Mach E Premium Rear ended yesterday with a bike carrier and hitch. A lot of Frame tearing and a very hard hit. Rear doors do not open! I almost teared up when I saw these. Body shops are booked and it may be weeks before the insurance company makes an opinion.

Just my two cents if the rear doors are not opening and there’s underbody frame damages it’s likely a total. The parts and labor prices now are through the roof and there are more cars being totaled than ever before. We got T-boned by a drunk driver in a Kia optima the airbags did not even deploy but the two doors would not open on one side and it was a total and it was basically a brand new car. 27k to repair. And that was just the parts. 41.5 with labor and the sticker on the car was 35K ????????

Jes sayin. Say goodbye to that pony

If it were me I would hope it was totaled as I would not want it back! Plus it might be quicker to order a 23MY then get that much damage repaired. Not a body shop person but if the rear doors do not open I would think the frame is severely tweaked.

Anytime I see threads like this, I look for a body shop expert to say, "I can't tell from pictures, even if you took very detailed ones".

That’s my thoughts too. This is the concern in the photo below.

I would guess that is a total loss, but the opinion of the insurance company is the only one that matters.

I just noticed this In the photo, the hitch damaged actually “marked” the rear aluminum suspension/Motor frame….not a good sign….

Wow the metal in those frame members is really thin, seems almost risky towing with that.

That is fixable but it would take a lot of time, bending, and welding to restore. Likely totaled unless insurance deems the total vehicle value high.

Heads up to all. It was totaled today. Body repairs alone were over $20K parts and labor and that did not include a battery removal and evaluation. Fix time was more than 6 months, so it was totaled. Thanks for all of your inputs.

Definitely sorry that it was totaled. Hopefully, you will not have to pay out of pocket for the final pay off from the insurance company. When I insured my car, I talked to my agent about the "what if the car is totaled". They only pay what they deem replacement cost should be. I mentioned that replacement would be $10K over MSRP and they indicated that would not happen. I hope you wait until the 2023's are available and order another one.

They need to pay you the market value, like KBB. I would discuss this further with your agent. In normal times they would only pay market value because that was less than replacement cost but those have flipped around now. I don’t think they can always choose the lesser of the two values.

I believe they have tables how to calculate the market value, it doesn't have to correspond to what the market is paying. If they take MSRP and deduct depreciation it can result in well below current prices.
