For my wife and I, we are going BEV as fast as we can. She will never get another ICE vehicle and I will be trading my Raptor for my Lightning as soon as it gets here. I will be selling my GT350 next summer. I may chose to pick up a classic muscle car at some point for car shows and light weekend cruising, but that is about it.

My daughter has a VW bug for her first car and my son will likely have a ICE for a first car in ~3 years (just to keep first car costs down), but will probably switch to EV after that - up to them.
I like the approach of keeping a classic muscle car around - am doing that myself with my recently purchased 2016 GT Premium Convertible. Why not keep the GT350 for that? Would save you the time/expense of selling/buying.

Maverick Hybrid….. I’ve had one eight months now and it’s freaking fantastic
Actually get close to 60 miles per gallon in the city. Drives like a car mostly. Not really luxurious but certainly comfortable capable and inexpensive to own and buy and now they’re charging 15 K over MSRP you can get on the order books August 15 I believe. My loaded lariat was 35K with every option including the hard tonneau cover a truck cover and all the bed toys

Jes sayin. I have nothing bad to say about it unlike my two sold ponies.
I took one out for a test drive today, it was a Lariat but not the hybrid. Nice Truck but definitely not going to pay MSRP for a Truck with 6K miles on it!!!

Yeah. Just wait and order what you want. Try and hold them out because this nonsense is ending.
Hybrids are even getting more than that added on no matter what the mileage Carvana sells them for 15 grand over sticker with 10,000 miles on them
My hybrid maverick truck is the best vehicle I think I’ve ever owned in terms of utility gas mileage and general mobility and use. It’s extremely comfortable but not luxurious and I can pretty much do anything except best the Mach e off the line
Unless it Fry’s the battery contacts and then you cannot drive it for three months

By classic I meant 60's or 70's. My gt350 is a 2019.

There is also a risk with the Voodoo motors in the new 350's. Absolutely an awesome motor (8250 redline baby!) But they have a 1 to 2 percent failure rate and cost $45k to get a replacement. A little too much risk for me to keep it past warranty.

I can also sell the 350 and get enough back after paying off my loan to buy a reasonable (not mint/restored) classic free and clear.

The contrarian in me says that the price difference between an ICE car and EV on a road trip is minimal. Especially with rising DC charging costs (Teslas Supercharging cost 41 cent per kWh plus there is 7-12% charging loss so you are paying for electricity that is simply lost in transmission) and the EV efficiency at highway speeds is generally poor.

My Telluride is a MUCH better SUV than all of the EVs I've owned - ID.4, Mach-Es, Model Y, Model 3, RAV Prime, MINI. The comfort level and safety features aren't available in EVs at the $50K price point yet. At highway speeds, the ICE based Telluride hits 29mpg fairly easily and is way more pleasant to drive.

IMO EVs are fantastic in-town cars and short trippers where you don't need to DC fast charge more than once. At home/work/solar charging makes running EVs cheap but DC charging is just as expensive as gas in parts of the US.

I have done this at a couple places. Both times I called ahead of time to determine how they worked it out (PlugShare often has these details as well) and that they were NEMA 14-50 receptacles. One place (a hotel with RV parking) it was complimentary, the other I agreed to pay $10 to charge the car.
Seems like a reasonable deal to me.

Depends on how you trip. Getting a Hotel with Level 2 charging can make a huge difference. We just got back from a trip that was a loop through Canada. Start near Albany NY and go to Montreal (~220 miles). Spend a few days in Montreal driving around the city, then on to Thousand Islands (Canadian side - ~170 miles). A few days their and then back home (~200 miles). Overall on the trip we spent about $15 fast charging, just to give us buffer when we hit Montreal since we got their hours before we could check into the hotel. If we use our ICE vehicle (2017 Raptor), it would have been about $300 in fuel costs.

We had similar results in a recent trip to Maine and back - ~$35 in fast charging costs vs. what would have been over $300 in fuel.

A curious follow-on: if you didn't need the L2 at your hotel, would you have stayed at a less expensive hotel? If so, how would the DCFC charges compare to the daily difference in hotel rates?

Does anyone have a sense of which hotel chains tend to offer L2 charging? Are they pricey?

Prices were about the same between with and without L2 chargers within the same quality categories. Our Montreal hotel was actually really cheap!

I have found it is really hotel specific and not chain specific on who has them. We use Hotels.com which let's you search by EV chargers an an amenity.

I have a Camry company car, and I travel twice a month and am in rentals. You get used to going back to Ice.. The Bronco will make it easy, just not at the pump.

To me, it's comfort level and the ability to randomly explore areas without worrying about charging.

My new Premium has some hideous wind noise over the side mirrors (I need to measure the dB levels) and the ride is firm + bouncy. I don't think I would like driving it more than 150 miles which is fine because I didn't buy the EV to be a road tripper. My Telluride is pure comfort and is very silent. It helps it has loads of space, ventilated seats, easy physical controls, incredible visibility, top notch driver assistance (lane keep is almost perfect and audible blind spot are amazing), and loads of passing power after 60-70mph. I only bought it because I needed cargo space and found one at MSRP while looking for an EV6.

I had a RAV4 Prime for a few months and HATED how it drove on the highway - loud, buzzy, wind noise, not comfortable, terrible driver assistance. Typical Toyota. The only two positives being insane mpg and crazy amounts of power (Tesla like). I was very surprised at how opposite the Kia was to that experience.

To make room for my Orange Premium.. I had sell either the Telluride or Model Y and it was an easy choice :)

I test drove the hybrid version yesterday but it felt sluggish to me! Maybe that’s because my Truck has a Hemi under the hood! I was offered 7500 for my 19 year old Truck but that’s not much considering they had the Maverick marked up by over $20K!!! We live in a CRAZY World!!! Lol

There is no hotel chain that tends to offer L2 charging. This is a hotel by hotel basis. Some hotels have had slow L2 chargers for many years, some are Tesla chargers which work with an adapter.

Many chains have websites and apps with no ability to select based on a charger being available. Use PlugShare with hotels switch turned on.

Pricey? No, not at all. I've charged at Hamptons, Fairfield Inn and at La Quinta. La Quinta was less expensive, but not as nice a hotel as Hampton. The Fairfield Inn we stayed at was awful.

Also, price of a hotel with a charger vs. a hotel with a charger is not a thing. Price is more impacted by the quality of the chain, the quality of the particular hotel, and what's going on when you book the hotel.

If you drive on a weekend, you likely will pay more for your room. If it's near a major city, or a major event, you could pay a lot more. The presence of a charger today has no impact on rate, in fact many hotel personnel don't know anything about the charger, some don't even know they have it. Don't expect them to resolve any issues with it, either.

Pretty much my experience too, though I use hotels.com to search. I always try to promote it though and tell the staff (manager if I can find them) that I chose the hotel for the EVSE availability.

I just stayed at a Hilton2Suites and the staff there was totally clueless about the EV charging! They had 2 Tesla and 1 CCS charging locations. Even when the CCS plug was ICE’D I was still able to reach it by parking in the 2nd Tesla parking spot. There was a Tesla plugged in constantly for 3 days. I don’t have a Tesla Tap but it wasn’t necessary for this visit. I was able to top off each day and left the hotel with 96% charge which was more than enough to get back home!
